    I google Tony Royster Jr every couple of months when I think I'm getting better at drumming just to remind myself of how far I have to go. Love this guy.

    I say best ever. A lot of the older generation argues with me on that. They all want to say Neil Pert, or Buddy Rich, don't get me wrong, it's a tough comparison, but Tony Royster Jr plays all types of music so well. Hard to say he's not the best ever in my opinion.

      @markomarkovic5729 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are so many amazing drummers, and you can't say that one is the best of the best. rired2005 has mentioned a lot of incredible musicians and there are many more greats like Billy Cobham, Virgil Donati, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Gavin Harrison, Steve Gadd, Terry Bozio and many many more of them who are amazing, and all of them developed their own unique style, so the only thing you can do is to listen all of them as much as you can, enjoy and try to learn something new

      At 61 I def qualify as the "older generation." You won't get any argument from me, at least regarding these top drawer young cats doing their thing vs the older crew. Drumming and music has progressed enormously, and NONE of the older players would hold a candle to the current generation of drummers. I saw Buddy Rich in his prime, knew what I was listening to, and also listen to the current crop of slingers. Buddy, Elvin Jones, Krupa, Morello, etc. were cool, FOR THER TIME. Current Prog, Djent, etc., guys are just at a whole other level in technique and creativity. The use of odd meters, polyrhythms, and modern double bass kick work is just OUT THERE today. I would add Benny Greb, Matt Garstka, and Mike Portnoy to the list of awesome current talents. All of these guys make me feel great about the current state and future direction of kickass drumming.

    What I find great about this is Tony shows how drumming can be about more than just keeping time. If you set a kit up, whether electronic or traditional, to suit your ear, you can really make it sing. Changing the order/arrangement of your toms so they're not simply high to low in tone, or setting cymbals in a manner where chords come into play as you cascade from left to right, can really expand your kit's range. I just think that's cool, is all.

    Tony might just be the most well rounded drummer i have ever seen! He has everything..chops, speed, technique and an unbelievable sense of groove and timing. i honestly don't think there is anything he couldn't play:) You can definitely tell this is what he was born to do! Im actually glad he's playing rap..his near perfect sense of groove is perfect for it and obviously he really doesn't have anything to prove as you can see in this video. He is obviously very VERY good! Keep join' Tony! You're truly an inspiration!

    He also uses the TD-30KV in a great way! I'm using the TD-30KV myself and I actually made a video on my channel about the Effects in the TD-30KV, so if you want you can check my channel. However, Tony is just amazing and I will keep watching his videos over and over again..

    To the guy that called him a rap/hip hop drummer SHUT THE ...u ignorant.... he was on tour playing beside Dennis chambers when he was 7, doing tony William solos that u probably still haven't learned. Educate ur self. He plays rap hip hop cause after he learned EVERYTHING ELSE he decided he wanted to do something fun but being that he's the best drummer in his age bracket he choose the show that would still pay his worth or at least close too it, thus JayZ is currently presenting him on stage.
