What strikes me the most is that almost all metal drummers that are on are doing a slamming job! Metal being the genre that most people label as, everyone making noise, or simply “just noise”. It truly shows that these players are very good performers and professionals! Countering the stigma. Great job
imo modern metal is basically the equivalent of classical music, this is where most virtuosos end up. If Between the Buried and Me played harpsichords, pianos, and cellos they'd be lauded as modern Mozarts, Beethovens, etc
I could watch Dirk all day man. Dude is so humble and down to earth and it’s obvious he isn’t just that way when cameras are rolling. Art has the same vibe. Chad though.. my man is dialed up to 1000. Always has me laughing my ass off as well. Never seen anyone break sticks on the regular end not skip a beat. It’s extremely chaotic and yet everything fits.
Metal hasn't really been classified as "just noise" for about 30 years now. Everybody has at least one metal song they love, which is a lot more than can be said about people back in the 80's and early 90's
Tbh a lot of metal drummers aren't that great. They don't have much nuance or dynamics but people enjoy the way they play anyways. But then there are also metal drummers that can do literally anything like Matt Halpern, Matt Gartska, Jay Postones, Danny Carey (almost metal), etc Those are the guys drumeo should have on
This was so much fun! I love these videos where drummers are interpreting a song completely different from their own style & genre. Side note, Art Cruz seems like a genuinely good & fun dude.
I can't stop thinking that this proves just how important and diverse drums are in a song and how important and diverse drummers are!! This video is the definition of why Drumeo does this and I love how much Art was just having a good time still kicking ass while trying something different. By far my favorite "for the first time" tied with Mike Portnoy doing Nickleback lmao

Never heard a full Imagine song before. But this man immediately made the song way more interesting and dynamic. GG. Even just him saying he didn’t get a “band” vibe but more of a genre vibe…says everything. He kept it tasteful and within means. Well done, sir. I need to listen to more LoG.
Meshuggah is a different beast though I'm guessing it's mostly due to timing on top of it being hard. Idk I'm just a guitarist but they throw me off with timing not the actual riffs or anything.
lamb of god is undoubtedly a technical band. They are definitely advanced placement algebra quality. Meshuggah, however, is like advanced trigonometry.
Bleed is all fake trigger sample "drums" - From what I know, Lamb of God don't fake their drum sound, at least not in studio ...at least not with Adler. That should put it into some reality/perspective for you.
Im 30 and havent played the drums since i was 19. Idk what it was, but during his first runthrough, it just came back to me. I dont remember feeling as in tune as back then. Hours long half improvised jams in the basement with friends you dont know anymore...man lol
I have watched this too manytimes . at exactly 6:32 he hits the (idk drums) stick hit bass drum thing. Most delicate hit and he had his eye on where he was going to place that hit and how for 5 seconds. amazing
I like the original song a lot BUUUUUUT, listening to Art Cruz's interpretation of the song is like watching something transform from 2D into 3D. Chef's kiss!
It's very catchy, though not to my taste originally. But Art made it so epic and hype that i couldnt help but love it. Shows how important drums are to the overall vibe of the song, which this series proves so well.
The combination of musicians and genres you guys at drumeo are coming up with within this play along concept is amazing. I have heard of most of the bands, but don’t know all the drummers, even though I’m an amateur drummer. The personalities of the drummers are so humble! It’s comforting to see this kind of thing. Thanks so much. The Mars Volta drummer with Rush, Lamb of God drummer party dancing through Imagine Dragons 😂❤
This was a great choice of song! The original is such a non-entity you can take it in lots of directions. An absolute blank canvas, and I loved what he did with it. Top content as always!!!!
Lol ...... yeah the original drummer is just like, staying well out of the way of the other parts, but then the other parts aren't very expansive either. Very spare song. This series ALWAYS results in the drum part becoming larger than in the original song. And for this song in particular the original song seemed to need it. Then again imagine dragons is a wierd band and that's what their fans like about it so, no worries
Totally amazing how the drums can totally change the vibe of a song. I love what Art brought to the table! And then seeing Art’s reaction to hearing what the original drum track sounds like is cool. Drumeo needs to get more of the original artists to react to seeing other drummers play their songs!
First comes the tune, doesn't let any room for silence really that's the point...then comes Art listening to it, "can go a lot of different ways"...then he embraces the challenge and fills every tiny space there is while adapting his playing, starting heavy and rich then lightening it up on the go, but overall having so much fun doing this! Those videos are a constant lesson of where we're going musically and how we do it! thanks Drumeo and Art for this!
You know, it amazes me that how no matter how well I may know a song.. When I hear these pros create their own drum beat over the tracks, I can’t even imagine original song recording… So freaking awesome!!! My absolute favourite videos on yt!!!

This was a genius idea. I heard the track and thought 'wtf there's barely any drums in this, what are you expecting him to do?' But actually, i forgot my own main critique of these videos, which is that people are too concerned with doing it "right". As soon as he started playing I realized this is an F'ing brilliant idea. He plays something completely new, that changes the song's vibe entirely, but is still incredible. You do know your ish Drumeo.10/10 👏👏👏
This video was awesome!! Art took the song to a whole different place, making a song that is pretty drumless and filling the space nicely, without overplaying but turning the song into something much more powerful. Epic!
I love this series of videos by Drumeo…(not even a drummer) But this one was just eye-opening to see Art having genuine fun with a song that is so far out from the genre he is playing in lamb of god … thank you

Imagine dragons is fruity music for fruitcakes
? All I see is pretentious nobodies complaining about Imagine Dragons. Oh look at the only other reply to your comment; point proven. Dissing on Imagine Dragons doesn't even make SENSE in reply to this comment. Incredible.
@@akpokemon found a fruitcake!
@@etiennelumiere you sound like someone who isn't happy in life.
@@Fennetic I’m having a blast lol why are you so hurt
But then there are also metal drummers that can do literally anything like Matt Halpern, Matt Gartska, Jay Postones, Danny Carey (almost metal), etc
Those are the guys drumeo should have on
@@Cvillain626lmao no. BTBM is not that good
We definitely need the Final Takes on Spotify. I'd love to hear them now and then..
The amount of joy on his face while playing made me tear up from joy to see how much he just loves playing
Mike doing Tool was fun as hell too lol
@@mcpudd-20k that was a different series, he was learning to play the original (and he'd already heard it; it was one of his favourite albums that year). It was very fun though.
Never heard a full Imagine song before. But this man immediately made the song way more interesting and dynamic. GG. Even just him saying he didn’t get a “band” vibe but more of a genre vibe…says everything. He kept it tasteful and within means. Well done, sir. I need to listen to more LoG.
This is incredible. I didn’t think anything would ever make me listen to this song at will. 😅 I’ve probably watched him play this 10x now.
He looks like joy personified.
Him saying he can't play Bleed while he drums for Lamb of God is so humble.
Meshuggah is a different beast though I'm guessing it's mostly due to timing on top of it being hard. Idk I'm just a guitarist but they throw me off with timing not the actual riffs or anything.
I think it'd funny to put it on for them
lamb of god is undoubtedly a technical band.
@@El.Sasquatcho69 I'm sure if this dude really needed to he could learn Bleed.
I caught myself just smiling listening to his final outro play. You can hear his metal genre mixing with the pop and it sounds so good!
Wow, the final take's pause fits so well, like the anticipating silence right before hearing the thunder. Amazing artist!
I live for the "drummer hears song for first time" series. Outstanding.
I am always so relieved when metal guys from bands I like are nice.
Metal guys are usually chill as fuck
gives similar vibe as dirk frm Megadeth
Im 30 and havent played the drums since i was 19. Idk what it was, but during his first runthrough, it just came back to me. I dont remember feeling as in tune as back then. Hours long half improvised jams in the basement with friends you dont know anymore...man lol
love the coheed pfp!
Why would you like thunder
@@crumpetsack3909 because it soothes me to sleep at night 😴
It's very catchy, though not to my taste originally. But Art made it so epic and hype that i couldnt help but love it. Shows how important drums are to the overall vibe of the song, which this series proves so well.
Ugh you guys need to release a Spotify playlist of all interpretations of "For the First Time" vids!
Well that song improved dramatically 🤘🏻
Poor guy basically had to play to an a cappella track
Facts
The horrid vocals are still there though
Still one of the worst songs ever written
HA! truth
Top content as always!!!!
lmao inadvertent casual destruction of imagine dragons
@@danboing3864 not entirely inadvertent 😂
Lol ...... yeah the original drummer is just like, staying well out of the way of the other parts, but then the other parts aren't very expansive either. Very spare song. This series ALWAYS results in the drum part becoming larger than in the original song. And for this song in particular the original song seemed to need it. Then again imagine dragons is a wierd band and that's what their fans like about it so, no worries
f yeah man. he just made that song jump bro. Now I want this version
Totally amazing how the drums can totally change the vibe of a song. I love what Art brought to the table! And then seeing Art’s reaction to hearing what the original drum track sounds like is cool.
Drumeo needs to get more of the original artists to react to seeing other drummers play their songs!
That would be great!
The one I’d want to see more than anything is Danny Carey reacting to Dennis Chambers playing Schism.
Dude, this is my new favorite TH-cam channel. Every video like this is just pure joy watching these amazing drummers working these songs out.
The more I watch this channel, the more I appreciate the talent and magic a drummer brings to a band… another outstanding video… Thanks
This series is awesome. Love watching pros get nervous and then just play and have fun - results are epic.
Wow, his drumming adds a whole new dimension to the song! And it sounds amazing. It really drives the song... I liked it sooo much!
I could watch Art Cruz play all day long. He's a joy to watch.
It's really so nice seeing him having smile and joy on his face while playing it, once again a video internet needed by Drumeo. And that final breakdown with the cymbals work, so lovely.
Great job to all the team !!!
A french viewer.
I don't play drums - just love music. I love this concept. All of the drummers have been so cool. What a cool guy.
6:55 was maybe my favorite drummeo moment. He’s in the middle of making a new song and nailing it
Can I just say that it's been a long time since I've been really excited to see new uploads from any channels on TH-cam.
Drumeo, You're killing it. All I can say is please don't let it stop
This is such a fantastic interpretation of the song. I love these videos because it’s such an interesting insight into music collaboration and how just 1 person can change the feel so much.
My favorite part of this series is just watching the joy on an artist's face as they are given a chance to push themselves into something new.
Original song: In awe of the thunder.
Art: You are the thunder.
It's about Satan.
@@SieTeppischfresseroh here we go, some Christian who makes things up😂
Love how Art was just himself and had fun.
He was so happy, playing with a smile!!! Just made you smile along with him 😊
6:26 I ALWAYS LOVE KICKS WITH CRASHES!! they always sound so amazing and enjoyable to play them
This was a genius idea.
Epic!
As someone who isn't a fan of the original song, I really liked Art's version! Always love the first time content Drumeo!
This is the kind of stuff I love, them doing their own interpretation and not trying to figure out what the original sounded like.
I love this series of videos by Drumeo…(not even a drummer)
But this one was just eye-opening to see Art having genuine fun with a song that is so far out from the genre he is playing in lamb of god … thank you
