@@Abdega The real question I've always wondered is "who could force him to go back?" By the time he could IT back and forth, the presence of any being strong enough to force Goku to not come to Earth would have solved any problem Goku would have needed to go to Earth to solve. Not only that, but Goku would have done it just to have someone strong enough to fight

I just love how original the VA weren't sure of dbza or were unsure if they were allowed to watch/interact with them, but now they openly embrace and praise the voice acting. Truly a great feat.

14:03 I actually like the bit of extra characterization that line gives Trunks. Like, *of course* the son of Vegeta would break down crying in the moment and then later be like "oh you guys missed it, I was so cool when I said the thing!"
I think it also adds a valuable beat of timing before that particularly funny last sob because of the scene audio being ducked for his voiceover. Even if on the page it seems like too much, the way it flows works better than if it weren't there.
Taka is correct, Goku had a senzu bean to regain his strength after returning from King Kai's and split one between Krillin and Gohan.
If I remember correctly; it took Goku 2 days flying at max speed (no sleep) to make the journey from King Kai's to King Yamma's palace to get sent back to Earth. So Goku's sensu was critical.
So maybe Gohan would've gotten his arm back down the elbow...

@@game84cubeI think people's hate is undeserved. My take on the original read of that scene was that Goku was referring to never having done a mouth-to-mouth senzu bean thing. But Vegeta and the other characters took it as him having never kissed someone before. But maybe I'm just being too generous to the writers of that scene.

As for Nimbus, wasn't gohan already shown to use it before? He's probably just faster flying and wouldn't need it.
@@lizard1255 Yup, gohan already has access to the nimbus if he ever felt like using it. Even used it to get to school during that high school into great saiyaman arc, and Gohan later gave it to Goten but that last part isnt really relevant. Basically though Goku had already given the nimbus but yea they fly faster when its a serious situation

I like the idea that Gohan didn't even GET it from Goku because Goku died too early to give it to him. So he just... took it after a while and sarcastically said "thanks, dad"
DBZ: Kakarot Trunks DLC actually did some cool things regarding Chi-Chi and Trunks. She perks up a lot after Trunks defeats the androids, and states that because her son virtually shaped who Trunks is, he’s like a son to her.
She still has Trunks. Brings a goddamn tear to my eye
Ikr going through those filler moments with chi chi always makes me crack a smile. I sometimes just go and chill at chi chi’s whenever I go AFK to make it seem like trunks will keep checking up on her like she’s a second mother

“He had a lot to prove” is one of my favorite lines in the show, such a perfect line and delivery for that joke
27:40 It was the saiyan Saga, Korren only had 2 beans. Goku ate 1 to replenish his energy from flying on Snake Way. Then split the last Bean between Krillen and Gohan.
and neither gohan or krillin made any point of not being fully healed...

Their bodies were still damaged and they were sluggish if I remember correctly. Half a bean likely restores stamina and minor wounds. I imagine only a whole bean can restore total vitality.
@@davecraft5404 Yeah usually a bean makes all their bruises and stuff marks go away. After this scene you can still see they're visually beat up. They probably got 1/2 healed.

@@alicepbg2042 I had to look it up but you’re right. It was probably overlooked in that case, or he’s just covered blood from his last fight. Either way it’s still noticeable that Krillin and Gotham carried themselves differently than being fully healed. They looked and acted hurt.
Lani and Taka are the epitome of "aggressive positivity" in this video. They're just screaming "YOU DID A GOOD JOB! ADMIT IT!" and I love that.

When Taka brings down his energy for a second to seriously lift Kaiser up is just so wholesome and sweet. Seeing the three of you clearly love and respect each other and be such a fantastic team truly brightens my day.
I love how 90 percent of the video is Lani and Taka telling Kaiser to be proud of his work.
And they're right, to this day this is top tier DBZA content
Ever since Taka joined the commentary he and Lani's heartfelt praise seems to have cut into the insecurity Kaiser expressed throughout the commentary. It is so genuinely touching seeing their friendship on full display like this.
Also, not that I didn't appreciate him before. But learning the astonishing amount of work Scott did, inspiring trends and developments of abridging as a whole. Carrying so much of the behind the scenes load for DBZA, often times working so the changes DIDN'T stand out.
Just, holy shit. SO much respect for this man.

Yeah I’ve noticed that too. They’re all really hard in themselves but especially Kaiser. I understand criticizing your work but he should be very proud of all his work throughout the series.
@@CEJRAIDDBZA is top tier. Kaiser should be absolutely proud of it. I was still in college during the original run and it was the best part of life back then. Hell some people were still in school and grew up with it, this was before Super became a thing too, so there wasn’t any new dragonball content at the time to fill the gap after GT had ended.
Kaiser deserves the biggest of props for his Trunks performance especially in this episode

The scene where trunks see's gohan's body really hit home at the time and still does today. This special was released shortly after my best friend died in a car crash. We were both huge dragonball fans. The scene makes me think of him. Actually teared up a little bit seeing the scene, seeing and hearing the agonized cries from Scott again. Y'all really did a great job evoking emotion.
So true and I can understand 100% how you feel... for me it was the tv show Supernatural, we were both huge fans and my bff died shortly before last season from cancer... watching that season and especially the ending she never got to see or hearing the famously associated song "carry on my wayward son" was/is... hard 🥲
Lani puts on his jolly face for us in front of the camera but in this episode more than most others we see the professional side of Lani. Long experience taught me that people like Lani are the people you want to work with.
I always headcannoned that the "Daddy?" Trunks is the one that Cell murdered to get his version of the timemachine. Making that one the worst timeline

That's arguably the best TFS timeline if you really think about it though. The Androids are gone and Cell left after killing Trunks. Yes, it leaves Earth without defenders, but if you think about the people that are rebuilding the world and the fact that Bulma's super genius ass is still there to help with that effort there would eventually be a renaissance for mankind. I'm assuming that her grief will pass quickly by that time because she's already lost everyone else and is very much an In-Action, take the initiative kind of person. Also throw in the fact that Master Roshi and Ox King are still alive in that timeline and there's still hope for Earth to gain new defenders through their training.
Now if only they had a way to stop Babidi in the Canon timeline Humanity would be good. lol

I always hated the fact that Bulma never gave him an arm, like you built a Time Machine! But as I grew older I realized to tell this Gohan’s story and how he goes out, is the story of a battle scarred hero of the humanity(with lots of trauma and suffering) and I find that beautiful.
Given how Mr. Briefs offered 16 a Gatling gun (at least in this telling of the story), I like to think that Bulma offered but Gohan declined. Could’ve been a pinch of Saiyan pride, could’ve been that ki wouldn’t gel well with a robot arm, who knows; I just like the minor parallel.

I love how Bulma has such strong faith on his best friend, that her solution was always bringing him back, no matter the cost.
She found him on that mountain when he was ten and he never let her down, ever. Her love and faith in Goku was lifelong.

DB Super made that statement more than just a joke. It's now canon that if Bulma had the dragon balls she would in fact "be 37 for 10 years". TFS actually ended up nailing her personality with that line.

I personally really like the profound line. I like the idea of Trunks, the kid who wants to be a cool super hero like the people he heard of growing up, wanting to tell his story like he was mature, when in reality he was just a crying child

Even the use of Four Knocks at the start made it simultaneously both heartbreaking and hilarious.
The scream for Trunks still gives me chills, and the music from Doctor Who as well is simply heart wrenching, it's such a perfect scene and Kaiser deserves all the praise in the world for this work.
I love how aggressively complimentary Lani and Taka are of Kaiser's performance as Trunks. They're goddamn right, too. This special was amazing and the Trunks transformation had me in tears. Lani is absolutely right about the comparison to Gohan's SSJ2 transformation in DBZA, that's the other one that always breaks me. They're both just so good and the music and editing are so on point. Take a bow.

@@alysssabeara lot more people recently grew up with Kaiser as Trunks, some following DBZA since it’s beginning. I was there from the start and had watched DBZ when it came on tv but wasn’t running new episodes because it concluded, so I didn’t grow up following it like I did with DBZA, if that makes sense?
Y'know, considering the fact that Gi was one of the few things Goku actually owned, it was probably the nicest thing he could've given Gohan anyway

Goku already gave both of them everything, including the clothes on his back.
It's such a deep double edged sword and I don't think they've really talked about it. Goku showed he actually did care about Gohan by leaving him essentially a piece of himself, his gi, when martial arts was his passion. But it's a sign he never listened to Gohan bc Gohan never liked fighting, but Goku assumed he did.

Making him a clone is honestly a much better "deleted" idea than I expected. I figured that his survival would be that he was horribly mutilated, so Bulma repurposed her father's clone tanks to grow new limbs for Trunks.
I will always fangirl over Scott because he is so incredibly talented. This special showed his range and showed the team could do more than just make us laugh. Honestly, they're all so underrated but this does go down for my fave VA performance of all time.

I cannot overstate just how much Kaiser’s Trunks transformation sucker-punches me in the feelings. The first time I watched this, I teared up because I could feel all of the pain, anguish, grief and sorrow in Kaiser’s screams. He deserves all the praise for this performance.
Fucking same here, it feels like Scott is reaching from within his own heart and just pouring it ALL out and letting all the anguish and rage out from the deepest parts of his soul. Still gets me in tears.

The Super Sayian Transformation was perfect. The build up, music, the emotion in the scream and the voice break. Kaiser should be very proud. All the TFS actors who did a super sayian transformation put their heart and soul into it. I only feel that Lani never got a proper SSJ transformation scene since Vegeta just sorta showed up a super sayian.

@@Sh1ranu1 true, and he nailed it. Now that I think about it, even in the actual Show they never give Vegeta a proper transformation, he just shows up with the powerup. His SSJ, SSJ2, and SSJ Blue are all off screen.
Gohan's death was always so emotional for me. There's not many shows that run long enough for you to meet a character when they are a baby, and then watch them die as an adult.

Your Trunks is perfect. Me and my gf watched this movie after I saw this video and she and I cried at the scream. She kept saying "I ain't crying over a parody of a show I barely like" but she loves Trunks as a down to earth, reasonable sayan. And your voice truly fits him. Well done we applaud this and I always look back at the android saga fondly with these episodes along with the original
During the scene where Trunks is searching for Gohan, there isn't even music paying and I'm _still_ getting goosebumps.
For my part, I love the “profound” joke. It always set up Trunks as being just a sliiiightly unreliable narrator, which makes me laugh 😂
That's what I like about the framing device that the story is being told by Trunks. It implies that things might be even more fucked up than they're shown to be and that perhaps Trunks was too young to understand some things. Like maybe we're only seeing a fraction of how crazy Gohan is (Trunks seems to be idealizing him) and how desperate Bulma is.
It also makes the whole “I can do this to you with one arm” moment even more suspect. Perhaps Gohan seriously lashed out at Trunks then but Trunks wrote that out of his mind.
Love the little glimpse into the writers room at 49:18. All three of them working together to make a half-decent and coherent joke with a setup and punchline completely on the spot. Just goes to show how well they work together.
Blink and you miss it but yeah, all three of them are instantly on top of it
That has probably been the best thing about Taka joining these. You can just see how naturally they bounce off of each other for structuring jokes and storylines, it's incredible.
I would be surprised if they weren't after all these years.
Absolutely love Ox King's reaction to Darkest Chichi. As with everything, the voice acting is 100% on point.
The amount of control they have over their voices is honestly incredible
27:38 Taka's right, when Goku got back to Earth from Snake Way, Korin only had two beans to give Goku. Goku used one to replenish the energy he spent crossing Snake Way at full tilt, and split the second between Krillin and Gohan.
I know its easy to write stuff with hindsight, but TFS really managed to make some emotional moments hit hard

Even though we all knew Gohan was doomed when he came at 17 and 18 while “asymmetrical”, the sort of reverse-bathos you guys did when he was killed and Trunks found him was genuinely impactful.

The fucked up part is that it's made clear in the special that if not for the fact that there was two of them, Gohan WOULD legitimately stand a chance and probably win; his folly wasn't in not being strong enough, it was in not nurturing Trunks's strength as soon as he got a chance to so that he could have someone to have his back.
@@UltLuigi1 yeah the anime changed/ruined that. in the manga version, right before killing Gohan, 17 tells him they never even used half their power against him. meaning even if he had SSj2, he couldnt win 1 on 1 much less 1 on 2. i think him being that out of his depth sells the hopelessness better than him having had a sliver of a chance.

Ox King and Chichi’s exchange is possibly the darkest and funniest scene in the entire series to me, it just has me rolling with laughter when he goes “…oh”
I know it's in good fun amongst friends, but Kaiser gets picked on so often that it's just so refreshing to see him get absolutely showered in the love he deserves for his skill and dedication
Kaiser I don't think anyone else could have played Trunks, your delivery of Trunks' scream still gives me goosebumps.
I know that people think that episode 60 was the peak of DBZA's writing, and it absolutely deserves the praise it gets, but to me this is the pinnacle of the series. The audio design, the editing the *voice work.* They Kamehameha'd this one out of the park, and I'll stand by that forever.
I’m not a weepy person. Believe me when I say the writing, the audio, and Kaiser’s performance brings me to tears every time I rewatch this one, it’s immaculate and PAINFUL
The amount of joy they get just remembering things, the passion in their work right now with this commentary that has been done before, I really can't say what episode is the best because every episode is better than the last, but the best one probably is whatever gets the fan base bigger and appeals the easiest.
23:07 Isn't it funny how Gohan is JUST like Goku when it comes to dealing with Trunks? He thinks "That's how I learned. He's a half saiyan so this should work out." Just like Goku at the end of the cell saga thinking Gohan likes to fight.
Edit: He's also JUST like Piccolo in A LOT of ways. Which makes sense because this timeline's event stunted his growth as a person. HE EVEN HAS A VOICE IN HIS HEAD!!!

History of Trunks was honestly always my favourite part of DBZA. I'm not sure what it is, but something about how it combines the humour and emotions hit the exact right spot for me personally. I'm not saying it's the best, because Episode 60 is an absolute masterpiece too, but I will always love this.
Plus it's the first time TFS made me cry. And definitely wasn't the last.
I'm Chilean. We never got to hear any of the english dubs while we were kids watching DB and DBZ, we grew with Mario Castañeda, Rene Garcia and others.
But then, growing up I started to hear more english in DB Media, like videogames and movies. And let me tell you guys: with all Honestly, When i think of the DBZ characters with english voices, I can only hear you guys, cause you capture these characters with so much more personality and charm than the many english dubs I have heared.
Be proud of yourselfs guys, Specially you, Kaiser.

Have to agree here, I grew up with Brazilian portuguese dub which I honestly feel is better then US english dub but I think the guys on TFS kill with their performances is so great. They should all feel proud

It was heartwarming when they gave Kirran and Grant a shout out. It was also heartwarming when they reminded us of Puddin and her father Dumplin.
That scream when Trunks goes SSJ literally makes me well up in tears to this day! Kaiser should be proud of that performance, as it really relates to the viewers in a way that other power-ups don't - the pain of loss paired with the genuine performance - it's incredible.
It probably gets said a lot but I really do love how positive you guys are towards each other. People really should feel comfortable giving their friends a genuine pat on the back more often.

Gotta give props to Scott on this one. He does such a good job making the scene where Trunks finds Gohan so completely heart-wrenching...I can really only think of one thing in fiction whenever I see that scene now:
"Do you hear that? That is the sound of ultimate suffering."
It's the first true loss Trunks experiences, and at an age where everything hits you much harder than it normally would. And our man captures that perfectly. Bravo on the performance, sir.
Trunks going super saiyan for the first time might genuinely be my favorite moment in all DBZA. The build up, the music, the flashes of Gohan's last stand and that SCREAM... chills, every time. Wonderful job all around.
Piccolo not actually being there was kind of a gut punch not gonna lie.
What's odd is that you'd think King Kai would let his former students (Goku and Piccolo), talk to their friends and family.

Not only is kaisers voice acting top notch in this but I wonder if they forgot that he completely removed Yamcha from the opening scene because of the earlier joke they made that he killed himself. It was so seemless it wasn’t until I watched the breakdown I actually realised he had done it. The dedication in the edit to keep it consistent is just as impressive in my eyes as the voice acting. Kaiser is a beast
There are two scenes in DBZA that gives me chills every time. Gohan's SSJ2 scene and Trunks mourning Gohan. Kaiser absolutely killed the role. History of Trunks is a standout from DBZA.

The fact that Goku or any of his friends aren't using King Kai to speak to their family and friends in this timeline is just so messed up. Now I can understand why Bulma was upset when Yamcha finally did it.
I always figured that in this version Goku is _trying_ to talk to them, but Gohan keeps ignoring his calls since they never reconciled in the Chamber of Infinite Bullshit.

History of Trunks is genuinely my favourite work you've ever created. It's what made me realize I actually prefer your drama writing to comedy. That might sound odd, as the comedy is usually foremost, but it really cemented it for me. While I still enjoy the comedy, this special made me feel things -- and not just because of some dragon ball nostalgia, I had never seen nor heard of this special! You made me feel because of *your* writing. The words you chose, the way it was edited, the beautiful delivery of lines. You made me feel in a way most media wishes it could. For that, truly, thank you.

36:38 Whenever I rewatch your History of Trunks, I *cannot* watch this scene and not get choked up, and Kaiser? I have no idea where you pulled that scream from, but I can't hear it without it ripping my heart to shreds. This scene is, beyond any argument, one of the best in the entirety of DBZA.

Goku did in fact split a senzu between Gohan and Krillin during the Saiyan saga and it worked all the same.
Which is why I’m always annoyed when they never do that again.
Also in the manga it’s implied that Senzu could regrow limbs. In the manga version of history of trunks.
I've got to say, this episode - and specifically Trunk's scream scene - are easily my favourite in not just the abridged series, but also Dragonball in general. It hits so damn hard every time, just perfect. Bravo.
The Trunk turns Super Saiyan scene in the abridged far surpasses the original in my mind. Everything from the music to the scream itself. It’s just perfect.

Wrath of the dragon is my favorite DBZ movie, I've watched it so often I can literally talk over every single line in the movie, I loved it as a child and still do. The melody from the musicbox is one of the prettiest melodies ever in my opinion :)
