I remember someone during a school trip asking if I was going to get Ultimate Tenkaichi and I said “Eh maybe.” Definitely glad I did not get it. From all accounts one of the worst games in the entire franchises history.
After seeing what would come after it, it would've been better to let the franchise die or take a more mature development cuz why is a sequel more childish than what came before?
Making the franchise more “mature” really just takes away one of the biggest elements of what makes Toriyama’s work so great. In the same vein as how Zack Snyder turned Superman from hero who spreads hope/joy, to a mundane “authentic” sad sack. When it comes to tackling lighthearted content, Toriyama knows exactly what he’s doing.
@@BuckingBeasts not at all, you can still have silly moments and goofy characters with a pretty mature background, as happened with cell saga, frieza saga(where they literally show frieza killing children) and buu saga(where babidi exploded the head of an announcer). Just take a look at how bleach evolved, not only that, but look at the jumps db og made from the start to the al satan arc which was 10 times more serious than the starting arcs. It's not taking away elements from toriyama, it's about progressing story and characters, a thing which super is not capable of. Tell me a difference in character from goku at the start of super till now, other than forms and techniques. Maybe he's learning again lessons from Z, but he's not progressing. Plus super is literally a sequel of a 30+years old anime, it can't be for kids as the kids from the previous show should have grown, I cringe at pretty much every dialogue in super
