To me, leveling up is the game. When I hit 60 I usually dink around a little bit, get bored and then take a break for a while. The itch to play wow classic will come back and I’ll make a new character in a class and race I’ve not played before and take that one to 60. One of the things I like about classic is that it’s static. I can leave for a year and then come back and pick up right where I left off. IMO vanilla classic is the true classic because the player base is not split between expansions. Everyone shares the same world.
At 60, I level up my professions and reputations. I run the high-level dungeons and build out my Dungeon Set 1 ("Tier 0") and maybe my Dungeon Set 2 ("Tier 0.5") armor sets. I do raid, but only with a few some characters. I use one of my level 60s mostly for farming skins and herbs. I always find plenty to do!
Yea at level 60 it all just falls apart after that the game goes downhill unless you can find a perfect guild. they tried to improve end game later on but made everything else worse
I played TWW this morning. It is good, and I do enjoy it mostly but I was finding myself over stimulated quite a bit. Doing a flight race was fast paced, I did a delve and was being knocked back a lot and having to charge back in. I aggro a mushroom guy and he screams at me. Quite a few things scream at you when you aggro them. Then I hopped onto Classic and the game was so…..quiet. In a good way, it was relaxing. Even when a Murlock gurgles at you on aggro it’s nowhere near as obnoxious as the enemies in retail. I find myself having a less stressful time in Classic.
I remember I went from SWG pre-cu to WoW in 2006 and it was definitely a memorable leveling experience to 60. My favorite mmo of all time was SWG in the JTL pre-cu era, but Vanilla WoW was definitely a joy especially with the dangers of world pvp. In SWG you had to get a TEF or declare war to fight in pvp so in WoW just going to other zones and having to worry about getting ganked was extremely exciting and made leveling more intense.
Max lvl Classic keeps you even more busy than leveling up. That's what people mean by "the game starts at 60". I don't see it as a slight to the leveling process, which is amazing. It just reflects how good lvl 60 gameplay is.
I'm happy for you that you're doing things right from the start, mate. Keep it up and have fun! Classic always had what you're talking about, but I find that I was able to enjoy it more when I was more mature with the re-launch of Classic. I even did an RP server and had a blast doing things my way... And for everyone else I'd like to say that "optimization is the death of fun". There is a lot of room between optimal and good enough and that room allows for flexibility and enjoying things.
Love to hear you're enjoying your first experience with wow, especially on a druid! The first thing I played back in 2006 was a Tauren Druid, moonglade is such a good special treat for picking the class. I think I spent around 30 days ingame time to get to 60 xD Just enjoying the immersion, had never heard of a game with an "end game" before, and WoW wasn't made for its endgame, that was supposed to be a bonus. Your tales really take me back to the place where a lot of my creativity and imagination in life evolved from.
I am not married to the classic graphics. I would be totally ok with retail level graphics on an otherwise classic functioning game, minus all the excessive visual cues of course.
It's crazy, but my server cluster in Classic Era (the "real Classic" lol) is always busy with tons of people on. As with SoD, SoM, HC, WotLK etc., they always come back home.
Have you looked into Turtle WoW? Started playing it yesterday, got a Rogue up to lvl 11 - taking my time reading through the quests and figuring things out. Looks like they are doing a UE5 update this year.
@@Adroyo its subjective how "good" the real thing is considering the trade offs, there have been a lot of detrimental things done to the game over the years. They have what seems to be a full server and a secondary, plenty of population to have fun. Add-ons can be a negative, watering down the experience, so a mixed bag there but certainly not a deal breaker. Server has been online since 2018, if they are going to shut it down, better enjoy it while it lasts!
As much as I still enjoy retail WoW, it really saddens me that questing and leveling is treated as a chore or barrier in the way of the "real" game. I've always had most fun when questing and leveling, and I'm glad Classic still focuses on that. Like you said, there is only any sense of achievement in gaining levels or spells or the such in Classic. Retail, on the other hand, only fixes you anything like that in instances content. Running from Ironforge to Shadowfang Keep has given me more satisfaction than anything in retail since late BfA I think. Finally, I'd like to say that yes, Classic treating you like a random adventurer is much better than anything in retail, where you're the pentasavior of the universe.
Ive been having a blast so far and im only lvl 28. Im playing with my brother this time around and we are just taking it slow with no add-ons, but he's got a newborn so he only plays about once a week for like 2 hours. The random adventures we've gone on have been so much fun and most of the other players have been super chill. Seems to me that most people are taking this round of classic slow, to much speed running and min-maxing for years. Because i dont want to out lvl my brother i spend most of my time farming for gold, im well on my way to affording both our lvl 40 mounts. I get that a lot of people dont like the mega servers because its hard to farm with tons of other players, or bots, but the game feels so alive like its never been before. The main citys are packed with players at all times of day and the AH is full of deals and suckers to make some gold off of. Idc if its packed and hard to farm, better then a ghost town. If you cant farm out in the wild then lvl up and run dungeons for low lvls. I see people paying 15g for 5 carry runs to stockades and deadmines, thats over a 100 gold an hour if you're fast. Ya bots suck but these low lvl players buy gold then you scam them for all their gold. I cant wait to be higher lol. Cheers good video and subbed
Love these stories. I started playing this with my brother also who has 2 kids and naturally my progress has passed his at this point but the memories remain nonetheless! Thank you for your support ☺️
As someone who has been playing for 20 years; my immersion is being completely destroyed by these new megaservers with layering, with every layers completely overflowing with players everywhere, the bots, and dual spec. Not only do layers make it impossible to farm anything anywhere, more importantly it makes it so that fame and renown and non-existant, and the main reason why players behave like shit since you most likely won't encounter them again and their behavior will have no repercussions ; as opposed to how it's always been, small servers with 3-5k players where ''everyone knows everyone''. Classic Anniversary is a travesty. Still good cause it's WoW Classic, but waaaaay waaayyy wayyyyy less enjoyable than Classic 2019 or any other iteration I ever played (and I played a lot)
Some of the new servers have a medium population (3-5k). It'll never be the same, not having renown is down to multiple things, mostly imo from there being a perfect guide for everything and no mystery... but it's mostly as good as it can be, 20 years later.
@@EldritchSkies None of the servers have 5k what are you talking about. There's 1 server type per region, it's 70-140k players per servers. Maybe the hardcore server has 5k, but that doesn't count. And I'm not talking about people knowing everything and no mystery, we already knew that. I'm talking about people's behavior, which from what I have experienced so far has been atrocious.
The best experience I had in classic was Season of Mastery, mainly due to its extreme small population which results in everyone knowing everyone, we where one small family, organizing world bosses together as a whole server so everyone could join etc

I play both classic and retail, for the most part retail and M+. The blistering speed and visceral combat can be great, but sometimes it gets a bit much. Then I jump back to Classic and its nice to go at a slow pace and not feel the rush and pressure of gearing in retail. I spent ages just killing boars and wolves and leveling cooking 🤣 The world of classic just feels way more full of adventure and danger, since you're not hopping on a flying mount and zipping from A to B trying to rush everything. Also I prefer the community on classic, people just seem more chill. Retail is fun, but it's a very different game - not ripping on either. Classic to me feels more like authentic WoW, it's primarily an experience that's meant to be played socially and something you take your time with. Retail even though it can be a blast, is essentially just a solo experience in an online game, waiting in a lobby for dungeons/raids or group Delves to pop. Each have their own merits depending on what you want.
If you're worried about losing interest when reaching 60, don't! Max level in Classic still has some great questlines, weaving in the open world and various dungeons and raids. The whole Masquerade questline comes to mind. And the iconic Scepter of the Shifting Sands questline as well. And even after that you feel you're done, you can always make a new character on the opposite faction! Quest through zones you never went through! And even then, even after you've gone through TBC and WotLK, I'd still urge you to try Cataclysm and what comes after. It's not the same, how could it - but it has its own charms nonetheless. Especially Mists of Pandaria and Legion. If you ever need anyone to guide you through the game and its varied aspects, especially in terms of story and lore, I'd be glad to help!
WoW Vanilla Classic was by far the best. I did not really love outland but i enjoyed WOTLK. Once it got to Panda's I was like this is obviously not going in a good direction, and only restarted my account when Classic came out again in 2019 but have since dropped it. We should have a Classic+ kind of game, where it is new Vanilla content. The problem only started due to the Activision merger...
don't fall for this classic trilogy idea. wrath is more like retail than vanilla. tbc is somewhere in the middle. I hated both. vanilla is the only version with a single cohesive world. first expansion made it irrelevant, third expansion killed it. just because it still happened to be around during the first 2 expansions DOESN'T make them "classic". the subscription numbers ONLY started to decline when the old world was destroyed, and they did so rapidly. BUT they had already plateaued during wrath, during which as many ppl left as new ones came. in my eyes, tbc wasn't good because the subscription numbers still increased during it. it just had enough of the original game's essence still lingering about
You are giving Bliz far too much credit. Its clear that they lucked into a great game instead of actively designing it. Just a bunch of guys flying by the edge of their seats doing random stuff.
