Love your videos! I discovered your channel a few weeks ago & have learned so much already. I've become a "TH-cam taught" sewing machine these days thanks to you. My whole closet is in the process of being upcycled! LOL. Thanks for the tutorials. You are a true blessing.

These are great basic skills. I know a woman who calls her seam ripper her best friend 😂 And you are correct, fixing issues can take such a small amount of time and the end result will be so much better. Keeping with genre, how about your tips for sewing with knits? Thank you for these videos and your up cycle ones. ♥️

Yourself and Ms. Wood both do the tack thing. I either forgot or was never taught it. The other stuff I have known for forever (Jr. high), but it's good for those of us who've sewn for years to watch these as we still learn something.

Yes please do a intermediates skill set to master and then the skill goals for someone to be considered advanced! Appreciated this video A lot especially pinning the match points first and not just pinning straight through from one end to the other!

Omg i have cut along the fold line. But i never did it again! I noticed that you push the pins in perpendicular to the edge. I will start doing that. If i ever sew something again! (Maybe I’ll even get another sewing machine one day. 😅)

Wow.. After my last concussion I've been struggling with my sewing. I'd go into my sewing room and feel overwhelmed look at my unfinished dress and not be able to sew it straight.. So i cut out dishcloths and once straight I'd do tea towels.. Now my lines are straighter and I've attempted clothes revamps. You inspire me to keep going cause there's "no mistakes" I'm getting more confident in fixing any I make.. My unfinished dress will fore sure get finished. I can do it. My memory is getting better and it's doing so with your help and confidence, chatting away in the background. ( :

When I was just starting out (at around 6 years of age!), my Auntie taught me the same way she taught in her school with regard to notches: as a beginner, it it best to cut around the notches so there’s a triangle of fabric sticking out. This makes finding them easier for a beginner and also easier to locate them on fabric that frays a lot or has a very busy pattern. 50 years on and I still cut around notches, especially if I’m sewing French seams on delicate fabric, or when using fraying fabric. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to you Catherine, I've gained the confidence to experiment with charity shop (thrift store) finds. I'm drawn to pretty fabrics and have always dreamed of making outfits which are tailored to my curves. The compliments I received yesterday when I wore my creation to work for the first time yesterday made me feel amazing, in a dress that fitted and flattered. Please keep inspiring us to try new things Sarah xx

Great Tips! When laying out pattern pieces onto fabric, why are some the right side up and some the wrong side up.
Is it because it is more economical or is there another? Love your videos :)
When I was at school in the 70s we had needlework lessons, and we were always taught to tack everything before sewing. However many years later and getting back into sewing I had forgotten about tacking and found things didn't quite go together so well.
So now I tack everything and everything is great again. Definitely worth the extra effort, especially when inserting sleeves.

About skill #9 - keeping the fabric where I pinned it: I know that's what I need to do, but I can't seem to figure out *how* when the two pieces are not exactly the same length. If you have any tips, I would appreciate them.

You can come stay ocean front in our guest room for as long as it takes to get me through a pattern guided garment. It was my goal this year to learn and do… and then renovations took longer than expected and no garment to be made. I just found my machines a week or so ago.
