  • FIRST TIME HEARING The Cowsills -The Rain, the Park, and Other Things” REACTION with The Cowsills. Hi everyone! We were fortunate to catch up with one of the mostsuccessful family bands of all time, The Cowsills. We were honored Paul, Susan, and Bob Cowsill joined us from their tour bus before their soundcheck. They certainly brought the positive energy to RSATC and here now is our reaction to their groovy #2 Hit from 1967’s Summer of Love, “The Rain, The Park and Other Things”.
The Cowsills are a part of the 2024 Happy Together Tour all summer long

This was incredible. I was 11 yo. I had a GE phonograph that played 16/33/45 rpm with a plastic tone arm. A Single One 1/2" speaker. I had this 45, "The Rain, The Park, and Other Things". I played it hundreds of times, such innocence, loveliness. This brought a tear to me, on my 68th birthday month.

It's called the Happy Together Tour because it is named after a huge hit by The Turtles who are the headliners on the tour which has happened every year for the last 14 years. The Cowsills have been the opening act for many years now.. Fun Fact: The drummer in the video is their brother, John Cowsill, who until recently was a member of The Beach Boys for over 20 years eventually becoming their drummer. He is married to Vicki Peterson from The Bangles who you have reacted to multiple times.

When my sister was in college the Cowsills were playing at the college. There was a basketball before the show and my sister was at the game. She said to her friend " do you think they'll sing moo . Someone tapped her on the shoulder and said "Thanks Alot ". The whole Cowsill was sitting right behind them ! They all had a great time at the game & concert !

You're going to love going to the Happy Together tour. A few different performers from that era still touring. I had the pleasure of listening to them at a venue called Penns Peak in PA.

You should also listen to the studio version. The orchestrations are incredible on that. I was 10 when this was released. I thought it was amazing that their mother & Susan were singing with them. A real family band.

I've loved them since 1967. Had posters on my wall. I missed them when they kind of went off the radar in the early 70s. During Covid I was googling them to see what happened and oh boy, there they were! So much music I had missed and now I have the documentary, their new album, and cds that Bill did in his Canada years. The one good thing that happened during Covid ! Love them so much ... those harmonies are heavenly.

Since I was one of the many people to suggest this song both before you listened to "Hair", as well as in the comments after you did react to that great song, I am taking all of the credit for the two of you being introduced to The Cowsills! This reaction, with your awesome guests is absolutely one of my favourite music video reactions of all time from any reactors!! Thank you so much, everyone!!!!!!!!!!! Love you guys, love this song, love the band!!

The Cowsills rocked my world. I was tuned into their music as a 7-year old (1967) and haven’t left. The 60s was an era like no other and much of the music spawned within is timeless. ‘The Rain, the Park and Other Things’ is one of those. Imaginary or real, its story immediately creates a visual, and one that i continue to see today. The harmonies are also incomparable. It’s a song that immediately brings back memories of my youth. Finally got to meet Bob, Paul and Susan at their show in Vegas in 2023 and it definitely completed a circle for me. They are part of my life’s DNA.

I saw the Cowsills at a show in my home town. Once a year a radio station put on a show with a lot of the oldies as this. The Cowsill's vocals were unreal. They are right about music to put a smile on your face.

Love that you had the Cowsills on. Being a boomer, I grew up listening to them and even saw that Ed Sullivan performance at the time on our 13 inch black and white TV. I’m glad they are still performing and unlike some other acts, they still sound great. Have to catch a concert soon.

The Cowsills are the greatest! I'm addition to their excellent work in the family band, Susan, Barry and Billy also did some fine solo albums. Susan is a member of a wonderful band called the Continental Drifters which still performs periodically. Check out the excellent documentary about the Cowsills. Their manager father was abusive and basically destroyed the band, but they overcame it all through their love for each other and their love of music. Incredible people!

I fell in love with the studio version of this song when it came out, and have replayed it over the decades, and it is pure sunshine. But after I saw the band as older people playing the hell out of it...that became my go-to version...which I have suggested to other reviewers, like Mr. Shawn, who loved both versions, as well as the Polyphonic Spree. I hope they come to Charlotte, where the song was voted #1, beating even hometown James Taylor's Fire and Rain. Flower girl...meet Flower girl. Beautiful garden.

Jay and Amber, I urge you to listen to the recording of this song. This live version is very nice, but unbalanced. When they fall into their harmonies, it's magic. You'll notice, siblings tend to sound incredible when they harmonize.

Been hoping for a Cowsills reaction for a long time. Back then all of the many popular bands and hits were all unique
and the Cowsills were unique, They had their own sweet sound like nobody else, Having the Cowsills on your show is really, really awesome! I really dig their newer song called 'Nuclear Winter'' check it out. that song has a 1970.s flavor all over again.
