First time I heard this song I was laid up in a VA hospital near Chicago Hines VA recovering from being hit in Vietnam. I saw this beautiful nurse and we married a year later. Two kids and four grandkids going on 50 years together with my Flower Girl. I really love this song for the very reason I mentioned.
After all these years this song still touches me. I always tear up when I hear it, especially the part where Bob and Susan sing the background "hello how do you do?", for some reason that line always brings tears, maybe because it reminds us of how polite people used to be to each other. I long for those days.
Igual para mi desde que la escuché por primera vez cuando era un niño. Hoy tengo 66 añitos. Buena rolita!! Me gusta verlos cuando eran unos jovencitos todos ellos. Saludos de un mexicano, desde Oregon, USA. 😊
At 66, I do as well. I had the great pleasure of meeting her in 1994 while she was making music with Vicki Peterson as "The Psycho Sisters." Such a beautiful, talented, and classy lady.
Songs ALWAYS send me to other times , places , relationships.. It's all , A day in the life ..I can recapture the " every things o-k" feeling.. Either , tension , heartache or a easy, nothing eating at me time.. Spanky and our gang music does it also.. Dealing w/ now , BUT escaping to then ..
actually its not that simple at all..its way more complex than most modern pop most of which is predictable...this has more interesting chord progressions, dynamic and tempo changes than todays pop.
A song that got stuck in my mind forever in '68. I still can clearly recall seeing this on the usual variety TV fodder, back when variety shows were still a thing. We were so young. Now we're so old and some haven't made it this far. Melancholy. Heavy hearted melancholy for all those years and the people that are gone.
I heard The Cowsills sing this song when I was in Highschool. And now ,for more than 50 years, they are singing as beautifully 😢y as they used to. I love the Cowsills
The Cowsills gave birth to SO many bands, including my favorite retro one, Jellyfish, the keyboard for which is Roger Joseph Manning, who plays for Beck now. Anyway, I will never tire of this music. It's magical.
Reaaally good performance. They sound great. Liked this song from when it came out, and first heard as a small kid of 8 yrs old. Susan a wonderful gal.
When my parents sang this song I didn't understand the lyrics, what a beautiful story and now that my mom is no longer with me I sing it with my little children and it has become our favorite song. We are in the car listening to it and singing at the top of our lungs.
❤❤❤❤ These are the folks that caused me to have recurring dreams of my large family as a band. 😊We stunk. But they didn't!!!! Lovely, wonderful people.
Back in the day when I was cutting my teeth as a drummer, we garage bands who were busting our humps trying to cover Cream or Hendrix took a dim view of the "bubble gum" genre. But with guys I made an exception. Their warmth, their honesty (remember, this was when the dubbed-in Monkees were cruising the charts), and their harmonies. Ah, yes, their harmonies still raise goose bumps. Keep it up, guys. More flower power to ya!

What a great memory that must've been. Best wishes to you in the new year and thank you for your service.
Sometimes you just need to hear The Rain, the Park, and Other Things to make you smile!
When they first sang this song in 1967, I'd believe that they never thought that they'd still be singing it in 2023!
Guess what, John. The Cowsills will be on performing throughout 2024.
Better now!
Neither did I.
Overcoming such a tragic family life they continue to warm our hearts for over 60 years
This song never gets old. Classics live forever.
Fifty six yrs later and still with this sound?!?!? Impressed and blown away at the talent here 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
