- Ok, this is more of a clean-up, than a restoration, but it is a good old tool, and I think it turned out great, I believe this is an older Stanley and for 4 bucks it was worth the time! I was able to save the handle even though I chipped more, it is still usable!
Looks great DJ. Can't beat it for 4 bucks. Nice work brother
Thanks 👍
Very nice results. Handy little tool. I have a very old hatchet I restored years ago and made a leather sheath for it. It gets carried in the tool bag in my truck and I have to say it gets used as an impact tool once in a while.
I have to get some sheaths, I try not to use as a hammer, my dad would always smack me on the back of my head if he saw me do that!!!
The back is usually mushroomed from driving it with a hammer, sledge or back of an axe, basically using the hatchet like a splitting wedge (Their Tools Their Rules).............A similar reason the back of fencing tools are always mushroomed so bad, they use a hammer to drive in the beak to pull fencing staples.
Yea, you are right but I still cringe when I see one mushroomed!
Nice resto. I work at a Hardware store and we stock those wood shims for handles. Quite a few sizes. Amazon too. I'm a volunteer FF?EMT in a suburban area and our Rescue trucks carry the extrication tools. However if you are in a Rural area it may be a while before a unit shows up with cutters and Jaws so sometimes you have to improvise. So Axes come into play occasionally. I'm with you on linseed oil once a year. 👍🏻Great video.
Yea, I will probably order from Amazon because I cannot get locally, we always carried an axe in are vehicles, you never now!
@@djstoolrestorationsYou're right! I carry one in each vehicle also.
Cool!!!!!!!😁😁😁
Hatchet turned out hella dope, dj's tool restorations!
Thank you!
I think it looks great DJ--you did a nice job on it--you could have gone further, but it keeps its character and now you have an awesome hatchet.
Thanks 👍
Great job my friend, I wish you success😉😊
Thank you! You too!
Nice restoration 😍😍
Thank you very much!
Nice video.
Thanks!
Whenever a piece of the handle splits if you still have the piece use some really good wood glue and then sand it down. I have a 10 lb sledgehammer and a 24 oz old USA Stanley ballpen that the handles both split the full length I glued them and clamped them with a ton of hose clamps then just sanded them down and oiled them the next day can't even tell it ever happened.
Copy that!
