I did the exact same thing about 3 years ago with an identical model axe, one I found in an old shed when I moved into my property. Mine needed the socket re-welding, and I couldn't source quite as nice handle as you, but still pleased with the results.

That came out really nice. I've wanted to do one of those but can't bring myself to change the shape on an old antique axe-head. Maybe if I come across one that's already badly damaged i'll go that direction. But very nice work.

Beautiful design on the axe.
I have a different opinion, though; using sandpaper left the axe looking like a practical but fancy axe.
However, further polishing it on the wheel to that aluminum look was quite an overkill. Unless the axe is for display purposes only, I don’t see how it would be suitable for daily use.
Otherwise, great job in cutting the axe to that size. The handle looks very nice too.

Я бы назвал это не реставрацией, а изменением топора. Был изменен вид и вес топора, а это влияет на его качество работы. Да, ручка красивая с виду, но рубить, держа в ней топор, будет не удобно. Для дела такой топор уже не годится, разве только для красоты и каких то мелких работ. За видео спасибо, было интересно. У нас в России тоже стало модно из старых советских топоров делать что то подобное. Удачи вам.

I used osmo oil . Can be used linseed oil too.
The wallnut wood is already dark wood, and the oil makes it even darker...
