Really cool pair of needle nose. They turned out great
Thanks!, hey we will be in Gladewater on the 11th,I go you a small hatchet if you want it?!
What a bargain looks like NOS now. That's fantastic. Thanks for sharing your expertise
Thanks,and thank you for watching!
Nice save
Thanks!
Don't look too bad to me, especially when you can make a few videos about the restoration of them. Thanks DJ
Yea, and have some good tools!
Who’s winnin 😂 As my boss used to say
I like it!
NEEDLE nose.
I've been buying every different length needle nose I see at sales! Have at least 6 different ones and some doubles for spare boxes in the car! Doesn't matter where they are made as long as they are in good shape after cleaning them! Also do this with different size pliers and adjustable wrenches! Saved my butt a few times and helped others too!!!
Never hurts to have extras, you always need more!
Great job as always, DJ!
Thanks again!
Those pliers were in beautiful condition after the wire wheel. They looked like they hadn't been used much. Nice clean up and polish.
Thanks 👍
Your tools your rules, love it. Nice work!
Thank you very much!
Nice job look like good little pliers,I have fuller pliers and screwdrivers the screwdrivers are usa and Canada made.
I think Fuller had plants all over, I know some of the early tools were cheaper quality, but the last few years they have stepped up their quality
You can tighten up the handles find a socket that fits the outside of the pivot and use a press and press it a little bit
Copy that, good idea!
If the pivot is a bit sloppy, I have taken a punch just a bit smaller than the pivot diameter and give it some taps on the pivot center joint. Seems to help. Great clean up
Thanks, you and mikejones5358 gave me some good ideas!
I have those with rubber handle. I'ts rare to see that style today, the most common are the aviation tin snips if I am correct.
Are your's older, and did you buy them like that, because I have never seen them with rubber coated handles, but then again all the ones I have found or used were just steel!
awesome clean up. kudos
Thanks 👍
Nice cleanup.
Thanks!
Wow! What a steal. You've been killing it with the 3/4 drive stuff lately.
Yea, I always on the look out and sometimes it just falls in your lap!
I am still looking for a high quality rebuild kit for the 3/8 drive craftsman ratchets.
I think it is getting harder and harder to find them, you have to find new old stock ones anymore, there was a hardware store in Colorado that had some I will look the info up and see if that store is still open!
I would guess the socket you are missing is a 7/8ths.? One size smaller that a 15/16ths?
I have to go out and check, I think I found one to put in there!
Very good buy!
Thanks!
Nice buys dude
Thanks!
BE Ratchet, SK 3/4 Set, and P&C socket....👍👍
I have been getting lucky lately!
You should play the lottery .That is a great tool haul 👍
I am always looking for things I need and lately it has been easy! and yes guys in my shop say I am lucky all the time!
Great finds DJ. Wow! That was an awesome deal on the 3/4 drive set!
Yea, I now have a full set of sae, now working on metric!
@@djstoolrestorations I've got to start working on a set 3/4 drive metric sockets myself. I use my SAE set on my 1939 9N
Good score haven’t bought anything lately
You will find something, probably when you least expect it!
@@djstoolrestorations I bought so tools today at the flea market
Awesome!
All great buys, I really like that long handled hatchet.
Thanks 👍
Great video, and thanks for the inspiration to clean some of my dads old files. I love restoring old tools and definitely use files a lot woodworking and just daily crafting of projects. Carb cleaner is awesome stuff but I would love to see you possibly wear protective gloves with that stuff. I’m not a Karen or soft ass city boy, but there is a short list of stuff I don’t really touch bare handed if I can help it and carb cleaner is on that list. I also know how it is in the shop when your busy and it can be an inconvenience to grab ppe, but carb cleaner can soak into your skin fast and is extremely carcinogenic. Keep on doing your thing sir, I love your style man🤙🏼
Hope you get to your dads tools, nice to have some personal history to those tools, think of all the things they have done, yea I know it is a bad habit hard one to break, I will try though!
Great review and tear-down, thanks. Hahahaha (Craftsman's ball-bearings sent me to PROTO twin pawls). You turn it into a nice-looking ratchet. Well done.
Thanks!
My grandfather had an oiler like that 22:02. Where can I buy one? Or brand name so I can look it up. Thanks!
Love it and I even have a few old ratchets with the oiling feature (never been able to use them!). Making the hair pin tool just shows your experience at work. Thank you!
Thanks, hope you can fix yours!
I've taken the Proto's apart by driving out the pin with a punch.
I will look at that closer on the next one, looking for one now!
Darn ball fell out of mine from 70’s
I have lost a few!
DJ picked the easiest ratchet ever to rebuild after the last BE or BH Craftsman that almost kicked his butt. Funny. That style of Craftsman hold up really well if they're maintained, even the ½"
Yea, it gave me trouble but I won! they are well made and if they are not abused they will last a couple of lifetimes!
It looks now like brand new! 🔝 👍
Thank you!
My first set of ratchets are just like that in 1/2", 3/8" & 1/4". I've had them for almost 40 years and they are still my go to ratchets.
I find I like them too, I like the ones that flex the best!
That style Craftsman is one of my favorites as well. I’ve used a few Bobby pin and wire coat hanger tools in my day too! Excellent tip!
I have a couple of both in my lock picking set and my tool boxes!
Good ratchet, I've been using one like that since I was a kid, never failed me.
Yea me too, now I have a bunch of them!
Thanks, i think i will try this with the ratchets i bought 20 to 30 years ago. Usa made craftsman.
Just take your time, they will turn out alright!
Those are Hog-Ring pilers.
Copy that!
It’s a cool ratchet DJ. Nice piece of Craftsman history also.
Thank you sir!
Now after you cleaned the watchet Now time to get ratchet dirty 😂😂😂😂
LOve it!
I have an old 1/4" drive Husky 20201 that I bought before Home Depot even existed. I could never figure out how to get it apart before watching this video. It has that same type of spiral snap ring. After watching you take that ring off I was able to get it apart for a good cleaning and greasing.. Not an easy job when the parts are about half the size of this one. I already did the old 3/8" drive craftsman after watching your video for that one. One more Craftsman 1/2" drive to go to finish up with all of my ratchets. Thanks again.
I glad I was able to help, and thanks for watching!!!!!!!!
Nice video!
Thanks!
If you're thinking about taking a craftsman ratchet apart and it's your first time, I highly recommend doing it inside a tub or a box and taking pictures. They can be deceptively intricate. You may get lucky and have something that's only 3 pieces or you can run into Swiss watch levels of intricate hidden by a clump of old grease. You dig in and bearings and springs just keep coming! It's almost as if every engineer got a chance to design their own ratchet and it hit the shelves at Sears for Christmas. How they didn't pick a design and stick with it and improve is beyond me. There's something satisfying though when you pick up a used old one from ebay and get the ratchet moving smooth. You're holding something that was manufactured before a bunch of employees were tasked with seeing how much they could reduce the manufacturing costs to provide the most profit to the shareholders.
I agree, I have made videos where I use a large Zip lock bag and showed doing it that way, I need to remember not every one has seen those videos! and yes sir I have lost about 5 ball bearings and a couple of springs over time!
It's really not to bad. Once you clean up the ones your going to keep I think you will come out ok
Copy that!
This ratchet made you look like an amatuer, the tolerances are definitely very tight on the earlier models of those, it helps to take a very fine file, and deburr the inside edge of the cover plate, grease the edges before wedging it back in. They work great and have a good feel if you grease the guts well
You are right, never had one of these apart so a learning curve for me, and I do not mind showing my difficulties so others can see, that you can make mistakes, and love you idea about the file, I had not thought of that, I will next time, thanks!!!!!!!
I have several of those and liked the design myself. I do one thing with all of my old coarse tooth ratchets i have never seen anyone else do in rebuilding one. I pack as much lithium grease as i can into the cavity of the head. I pack so much in it will weep excess grease around the drive gear in particular for a very long time after the rebuild. When you do that it smooths the feel of the drive teeth when ratcheting. It sounds better, and it feels better. I like the improved feel enough that i gladly accept a bit of weeping of the excess grease. The first time i tried that i reasoned that if i did not like the results all i needed to do was pop it back open and wash the excess grease away and put it back together. For me, putting up with the weeping of the excess greade for a time was worth the improved feel of the tachet in use. That was 30-40 years ago and i have done that to dozens of coarse tooth ratchets like that ever since.
I am not a big fan of filling it with grease, but I do see your point, I use my tools in a sterile environment, so as little grease oil dirt I have the better, now that is not at home and else where but that is how I was trained, just spills over in my life!
@djstoolrestorations I started packing the low tooth count ratchets years ago because I wanted a feel in use closer to that of a fine tooth. I was also not fond of the sound, which to my ear sounded like a dry ratchet. Admittedly, neither of which impacted performance in the least. More a personal preference than anything else.
@@herbholmberg4474 Yea, your comment makes good sense, my dad would pour 30 weight oil on every tool no matter what!
That's a nice ratchet. Thanks for the video
Thanks!
I have one that may be older. It has a 1/4" drive you can push thru.
Yours is 1920 to 1930's, I always look for those!!!!!!!!
