Why your Emetophobia isn't caused by a past traumatic event.

  • Do you spend hours a day trying to understand your phobia? Where did it come from? When did it start? It's understandable that when you are searching for answers you would look back to find an event in your past which may have 'triggered' your phobia. Perhaps you developed your fear after a sickness bug, food poisoning or another unpleasant incident. However, it is important to understand that even if you did begin to create your phobia after a certain event, the event itself was not the cause of your phobia. The cause of your phobia is nothing external, it is an internal thing. Your phobia is created by your thinking styles, your limiting beliefs and how you process those external events. Lots of people get sickness bugs or have really unpleasant experiences to do with sickness but not everyone creates Emetophobia. Believing that traumatic experience caused your phobia is a particularly disempowering belief and can lead you to believe that you are stuck with your phobia as you can't change the past.
