  • Finally they completed section 7 (4th cut with 3 more to go) Saturday morning on the capsized vehicle ship 'Golden Ray'. On Tuesday 4/27 they had it on the barge and began moving it to Mayor's Point in Brunswick Ga to be made seaworthy before being taken to Louisiana for salvage. Also includes clips of them removing vehicles from the ship. Thanks for watching and please subscribe and hit notifications as the Golden Ray saga continues.

      Its not the anchor chain that made the cut, its a cable made with carbide inserts thats pulled on both ends with anchor chain.
      Anchor chain, really?

    • @goldenstringsstudio
      @goldenstringsstudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well...while that would seem to make the most sense it is NOT what is happening. Here's a paragraph from the Brunswick News from Nov 2020 (when they started cutting): "The 255-foot-high dual-hulled VB 10,000 sits astride the half-sunken overturned shipwreck in the St. Simons Sound. It is employing massive anchor chains powered by pulleys and winches to cut through the overturned ship by force of tension." I have seen many pictures of the chain and a regular issue they have is the chain breaking and I've talked to numerous people. I cannot get good video from where I can shoot from (no boat) but have reviewed the Golden Ray Unified Command pictures documenting the process. If you have some 'first hand' knowledge then please share. The process on the Golden Ray (to my knowledge) has never been done exactly like this before.

    • @1tobicat
      @1tobicat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@goldenstringsstudio- I was lucky enough to meet one of the supervisors of this salvage job. Yes, they are using anchor chain to cut through the ship. No teeth or other modifications added to chain. Just plain, large, chain. And yes, it is very common to break the chain while under tension.

      Most of the cars where not extracted but simply left in the cut pieces though they removed about 200 cars from the bow and stern cut areas. You will see in my videos of the cut pieces (on barge) the cars inside. At the Brunswick port they do remove some that might fall on the trip to Louisiana but otherwise they stay there.

    • @goldenstringsstudio
      @goldenstringsstudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So far I haven't been able to get any. The VB 10 and other equipment block the view. No one is allowed on/near the ship. Boats have to stay 200 yards from the perimeter. And from the places I can shoot from along the shore (St Simons or Jekyll) I just can't get that angle. I continue to try to go out on a boat at some point to get different footage

    • @goldenstringsstudio
      @goldenstringsstudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all...its very unusual what they are doing. They are actually using a large anchor chain attached to the VB 10 (big yellow structure) and starting at the bottom ripping and tearing through the ship. To my knowledge this is the first time they have used the VB 10 and this process to dismantle a ship.

    How can they cut a ship with an anchor chain?

    • @goldenstringsstudio
      @goldenstringsstudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well its more like 'ripping' than cutting. If you look closely at my video's that zoom in on cut sections you will see how ragged the cuts are. I know it seems strange..it did to all of us who have followed this from day 1. The VB 10 applies the force and it is a constant back and forth starting at the bottom and working the way up. They have broken the chain during the process on a # of occasions. Which is one reason (among others) that have caused this to take so long).
