  • Hello all! Today we are unboxing and reviewing 1995's Christian Dior Barbie Doll by Mattel. Although I did not have this doll as a kid, her aesthetic reminds me a lot of my childhood for reasons unknown. I hope you enjoy this review. Thank you for watching!

Great video, Deany! :D Yes, the late Italian designer Gianfranco Ferré was the designer at Dior back in 1995 (before John Galliano took up the position in 1997) and this was quite representative of what he was doing there, (Though I much preferred his work for his own label back in the early-mid 80's where it was very slick and architectural... he was actually known as fashion's architect back then. And he always had Oriental influences in his work.) I'm SOOO envious of that STAND!!!! It has her name embossed in gold on the black, which I would love for my vintage gals!!! :P LOOOOVE how you showed a pic of Jerry hall in that Dior design on the runway! I LOOOVED her!!!

I haven't seen his work for his own label. I have heard reference to the "architect of fashion", perhaps you have told me about him before? I am sure I am pronouncing his name incorrectly :P I love this outfit. It is so 90s to me. I know right, such a classic stand, I wish they all came like that. It is a shame it is a saddle stand though. Those are really fiddly IMO. Wasn't Jerry Hall a knockout in that outfit!

Yes, Jerry was! I had the good fortune to see her on the runway decades ago overseas and she literally LIT UP the room when she came on... she did this very slow, swaying saunter that was very sexy (not like the emotionless, robotic stomping that goes on these days) and I remember thinking back then that she looked like a Barbie doll that had come to life... that HAIR of hers!!! She was incredible on the catwalk. I must dig out my old 80's magazines with his early work for you when you come over next time, Deany! :D

Oh my gosh! You lucky duck! You have seen so many great models in person! Don't get me started on today's models! I am not sure if I have told you this before, but me and a friends used to watch the fashion channel and we always referred to them as demented cockroaches. We need to have another dolly day very soon!

I love this doll w/dress. Interesting to see the dresses that inspired it. And yes, there are some dresses you just love to touch and others that ya just don't. This must be one of those that you don't like to touch. It is a visual delight though - touch with your eyes I guess. Good job on video.

Thanks! I love the outfit more than the doll. I undid the back seam to take it off and I put it on Strollin' Fun Barbie. It holds it's shape pretty well even with the open back seam as the fabric is quite stiff. I am going to try and put some hook/eye closures on it though. The doll just seemed a bit bland to me. her hair was cut strangely and looked horrible out of the bun and her skin tone is too fair.

Should not take much work to add a hook and eye. Saw the doll on this video with hair down. To be fair, ya really did not try too hard to make the hair look good LOL. But, it IS just another superstar Barbie face, and they all look the same to me. Well, not all but... I guess I am not really being too fair to the superstars. I have a whole shelf of them. :P

Yes, I just need to stop being lazy and go buy some hook and eye closures. Oh, believe me, I wasn't even going to bother. Her hair is very fine. I had a doll with hair just like hers and it melted into a big frizz ball from incense smoke (that was at least 3 metres away). So boil perming is out of the question and regardless, it is so choppy and uneven that it would look horrible down regardless of how it was styled. It is cut in a way that would only look good in an up-do. I could have made it work, but it would have taken a lot of time and effort. I honestly don't think the doll is special enough to justify the work. If anyone reading this does get her, try and keep her bun in place (despite the disintegrated bands :P )

I bought the dress only from a seller on eBay for my custom doll. She was a dollar tree doll who I made over. I will do a video on her soon, but she looks just beautiful with this dress.

I love when you do these videos Dean! They are fun. She's a really pretty doll. I wasn't aware that they sewed fashions on...interesting. I guess that does cut down on the bulky closures that snaps or velcro cause. I literally laughed out loud when you sped up! : ) : )

Thanks internet mum! She is pretty, but her hair is a bit bleh. Yes, me either! I didn't even think. I didn't realise until I was filming this video. It is really annoying and cheap IMO. I understand they were going for a close fit, but They always managed to do that in the 60s while also having snaps and zippers. Glad you enjoyed :D
