Those acoustics results seem weird. The Red Devil is considered to be the quietest card available, with some reviewers saying it's the quietest card they've ever seen, while here it's pretty much as loud as the reference design. For example, on techpowerup, Red Devil is 31dbA (29 silent), Strix is 36dbA (32 silent), Reference is 43dbA.
@@Elc22 I don't think that that is the problem, it really does sound louder (in his comparison!). I used an HD 700 to listen to it, I hear it almost the same as what he captured with his microphone. Whether you put it in a case or out in the open shouldn't really matter. Maybe he had a bad sample (non properly applied thermal paste or whatever), in my opinion the performance was also a bit worse than what I would expect, especially for the silent profile. Anyway, the 'color' of the sound also is important, I was quite impressed by the sound of the ASUS cards but the Strix costs €100 more than for example the ASRock Challenger. That is a LARGE price difference for the difference in performance, with that price difference you can consider to undervolt the card, play with the powerslider and GPU-frequency and that way run it more silent.

In regards to the 5700 XT AIB prices... I'm seeing a lot of people saying that they are going to wait for the Nitro+ and MSI Gaming X models because of the STRIX's price, so I figure I'll give some input of my own. The Nitro+ appeared on Newegg this morning (September 12th) for $450, only $10 less than what the STRIX is going to be sold for. Guru3D and TechPowerUp have confirmation from MSI that the Gaming X is also going to sell for $445-$450. The ASUS tax is not as bad as you think. Basically, go with whichever one looks the best to you. All their rated speeds are very high and they will all overclock extraordinarily well!
@@ssaini5028 Whether that is true or not (honestly I think you are being pretty misleading, as the reference card will literally sound like a jet engine inside your case should you aspire for AIB-level cooling, not to mention it won't be running anywhere near the higher clock speeds that these cards are capable of), my comment was specifically regarding price differences of the top of the line models. I'm not recommending buying them, as that isn't up to me. People should get whatever card they want to see in their system. I was never making an argument for or against these cards, not sure why you interpreted it that way. Your comment feels out of place.
@@MrCykko not from most of the reviews I have seen and Reddit posts. Reference cannot be heard while gaming and temps are great. Temps are mid 70c-80c which is fine for a GPU and noise is around 40dba but can be adjusted via wattman

And again, what does any of this have to do with my original comment??
I really liked you showing the sounds of the cards. I find the ticking noises of the Asus cards annoying. I think you should be mentioning the warranty on each card. Powercolor and Sapphire only have a 2 year warranty while the others are 3 year.
Hey! Great video as usual, thank you! Question: R5 2600 + ROG STRIX 5700XT or R5 3600 + reference RX 5700XT? Keep in mind that the total for both variants is basically identical where I live. Thanks!
Thanks for the sound samples. The Pulse sounds like my V56 Pulse...noticable resonance from the fans and plastic body, which is more annoying than simply the sound of air being moved. The TUF card sounded good, although there is some clicking noise on both ASUS cards in your recording (AIO pump or GPU coils?).
5700: Pulse. Or the MSI if I airbrush it white instead of fish puke pink 5700XT: Honestly I'd probably just get the Reference but the chunky matte boi looks pretty good too
For the 5700, the reference, for the XT, definitely the Evoke. Maybe the Sapphire for the 5700, if I were going with a different case than what I am for the reference.
This process of re installing drivers for silent and performance mode was understood the first time you mentioned it, you did not repeat the procedure every time you picked up a different card.
Based on what I've seen from reviews and tear downs on all 5700xt. I'd pick on preferred aesthetics and based on availability since all of them has like 2% performance between each other. imo : Red devil > Pulse > Gigabyte GOC > THICC > Challenger > Evoke > reference > Strix (at this price range I might as well go 2070 super)
Steve from GN actually suggests a mod for the MSI Evoke to fix the heat pad issue. It's probably worth it for people who really really want the Evoke specifically, or can only get the Evoke in their region.
Hardware Unboxed noted this card runs a lot hotter. He's seeing 70 - 80 degrees. However Vortez and Techtesters show 64 degrees as well as you, so I'm gonna go with 3/4 youtubers consistency vs one salty youtuber @ Asus who is getting high temps. TY for the review!
I just got the ROG strix 5700xt and it was the cheapest 5700xt in my third world country. First time a black friday sale actually was good in my country.
So I bought the pulse and I was extremely unhappy with it. You can hear why in the video as well, it has an odd kind of humming sound that got obnoxiously loud. I have no idea why this is not mentioned by reviewers but if you pay that much money for a card, it shouldn't be droning in your ear for hours. Some of the other cards here, I have to say, seem to have a fairly noticeable buzzing about them that makes me wary of trying another XT card, or any card that's so high end. Sorry if this is needlessly negative though >.>
I based my specific GPU choice on the warranty offered by the manufacturer. Some of them offer just 2 years, while others offer 3. I was all set to buy a 5700 XT, but I ended up buying a 2070 Super from EVGA, purely because they have awesome customer service and of course a 3-year warranty. 2070 Super is a ripoff compared to 5700 XT, but the peace of mind of knowing I can easily RMA it if I run into problems within the next 3 years was well worth it.
Had an issue with fan speeds, junction temps don’t read properly, causes fans to max out and takes a few minutes to drop back down to normal. Wasn’t happy with the fan bugs so I went back with Nvidia and grab a Gigabyte 2070 Super and am having no issues.
I feel like you should have waited until you got your hands on the Sapphire Nitro+ and the MSI Gaming X versions of the 5700 XT before you made this video. These two and the Red Devil seem to be the best models.
the 5700xt red devil is the cheapest card in my country, and the red dragon one cost the same as the rx 5700 (NON XT) tuf. the choice is pretty clear to me :)
I am really sad, that there was no noise comparison in silent modes. Especially as the Strix didn't lose performance at all in silent mode, it would be interesting if it was a silent mode at all.
I bought the reference xt due to no waterblocks being available at that time. And still, I think...? If I HAD to buy a non-reference, it would be the Evoke without a moment's hesitation. It looks the least juvenile out of those cards. Least "jagged" and "gamerz-y" I'm 38 dadgum years old. I don't need Ms Caroline at work asking me what all that disco business is coming from inside my computer. Its nice that MSI acknowledges the existence of a user who doesn't want all that Fast and Furious RGB life, but needs the horses of a modern card. I think availability is the story among these cards though. Thats the interesting part to me anyway.
It would be nice if they disassembled the MSI Evoke card and checked if that thermal pad issue is corrected. In the Nexus vid the pads looked almost big enough but off-center and maybe that was a QC fail rather than intentional....
I’d love to see this lineup but with normalized manual settings, controlling for clocks, noise, temp, etc... it’s hard to compare which is truly the most capable when the clocks are set to the conservative mfg tuned values. They aren’t binned that differently are they? I guess that would be good to know too.
Just ready whit building my new ryzen 3600 and rx 5700 pc thanks for the build tutorial Edit Is it normal that my gpu fans stop spinning when I start up my pc whit out windows or something on it (rx 5700 gigabyte édition)
Yes, think of it as a full speed test pulse to show that the fans work before running on the thermal curve. TLDR similar to a vehicle gauge cluster going to max for a second when the vehicle key is turned on as test.
@Alexander Deris my quickest answer is Sapphire Nito+ is the best with Powercolor Red Devil as runner up if you like the look better. Sapphire Pulse for awesome for the money option.
@@MasoodK The cooler runs loud and hot. And basically and low end MSI models like the Armor are pretty bad, same goes for ASUS. I acutally picked up a reference card because I got it at a significant discount, 90€ less than the next cheapest aib card, and honestly it didn't feel like it would be worth it, and these results concerning the 5700 cards totaly mirror that. So I am happy with it :) How has stability been for you guys?
I clearly want to put one of these cards in my new build. I major reason is that Nvidia and Adobe to my understanding have a connection that adds more speed in Premiere that seems to me like exclusion of AMD. Let me know if I am wrong but I see that kind of arrangement to be harmful to consumers. I definitely want to build a mini-itx build with x570 and AMD and want to use the Lian Li Tu 150 Case. Also to apply each mode I would need to reinstall my drivers?
$45-50 over reference is not worth it. Undervolt and tune the fan curve and reference cooling will be close to most of these AIBs .
@@ssaini5028 Those temps are absolutely not accurate for 40dBA normalized reference cards. Watch the Gamers Nexus review of the GIGABYTE 5700 XT and go to 3:28 to hear him talk about 40dBA normalized temps. At the bottom of the table he shows the reference design, which ran at a very scary 94c. DO NOT noise-normalize a reference card.
And again, what does any of this have to do with my original comment??
Asus is 70€ more than red Devil in here, so the tax is need indeed! It all depends on what the reqional prises Are!
Acoustics and power consumption for the XT cards in silent mode would’ve been a nice inclusion. Especially with the ROG being so close in perf.
I really liked you showing the sounds of the cards. I find the ticking noises of the Asus cards annoying. I think you should be mentioning the warranty on each card. Powercolor and Sapphire only have a 2 year warranty while the others are 3 year.
Loved the sound test
Hey! Great video as usual, thank you! Question: R5 2600 + ROG STRIX 5700XT or R5 3600 + reference RX 5700XT? Keep in mind that the total for both variants is basically identical where I live. Thanks!
just get the better cooler
the 2600 is still good, I suggest waiting for zen3 instead
Thanks for the sound samples. The Pulse sounds like my V56 Pulse...noticable resonance from the fans and plastic body, which is more annoying than simply the sound of air being moved. The TUF card sounded good, although there is some clicking noise on both ASUS cards in your recording (AIO pump or GPU coils?).
5700: Pulse. Or the MSI if I airbrush it white instead of fish puke pink
5700XT: Honestly I'd probably just get the Reference but the chunky matte boi looks pretty good too
For the 5700, the reference, for the XT, definitely the Evoke. Maybe the Sapphire for the 5700, if I were going with a different case than what I am for the reference.
This process of re installing drivers for silent and performance mode was understood the first time you mentioned it, you did not repeat the procedure every time you picked up a different card.
The sapphire 5700 which has a inferior heat sink in comparision to its xt brother does bloody well.
And here I am rocking a 5700 XT reference ;-;
XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II: The best looking card ForEver!
Looks nice, has garbage cooling compared to the others though. Aside from the Evoke.. that one was a mistake
Steve from GN actually suggests a mod for the MSI Evoke to fix the heat pad issue. It's probably worth it for people who really really want the Evoke specifically, or can only get the Evoke in their region.
That powercolor card is just a great value.
The quality of this video is top notch
omg this content quality blow my mind. That sound text those shot those sount camera setup colors montage wtf nigga thats cool.
Out of the smaller ones, between evoke and pulse its hard to decide.
Powercolor is the obvious choice for me out of the bigger ones.
@Stasss Yeah, it is very annoying to start modding the gpu right out of the box. Powercolor still choice number one.
you have to do this again with the new xt models. and separate vids, for 5700 and 5700 xt
Eber, did you take apart your MSI Evoke to check the thermal pads? I've been wondering if GN just got one out of a bad batch that passed QC.
I just got the ROG strix 5700xt and it was the cheapest 5700xt in my third world country. First time a black friday sale actually was good in my country.
I going right ahead for the Red Devil 5700XT
I'm in love with that MSI Evoke
I snagged up the PowerColor Red Devil and I love it, no complaints here from an AMD fan.
No problems with drivers?
Had an issue with fan speeds, junction temps don’t read properly, causes fans to max out and takes a few minutes to drop back down to normal. Wasn’t happy with the fan bugs so I went back with Nvidia and grab a Gigabyte 2070 Super and am having no issues.
I feel like you should have waited until you got your hands on the Sapphire Nitro+ and the MSI Gaming X versions of the 5700 XT before you made this video. These two and the Red Devil seem to be the best models.
Kimi if he gets all those models at christmast season... it just seems to be impossible to get all of these at the same time at this moment.
the 5700xt red devil is the cheapest card in my country, and the red dragon one cost the same as the rx 5700 (NON XT) tuf.
the choice is pretty clear to me :)
You didn't link the Gamer's Nexus video in the description as you said you would do.
I am really sad, that there was no noise comparison in silent modes. Especially as the Strix didn't lose performance at all in silent mode, it would be interesting if it was a silent mode at all.
PEople gonna be waiting for that RGB full Nitro+ 5700 XT next week...
Should I buy strix or wait for nitro to be in stock?? Your advice please
If money isn't your problem. Get the best you can
I wished you had tested the quiet bios on the strix and red devil to see which was quieter and cooler under their quiet bios
I don't know why, but when he showed those sexy beasts running and their fans spinning, I felt a strange breeze of air coming towards me... :)
I would have liked to have seen the Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse in this review, as thats the only non-reference card that would fit ITX cases.
Why does everyone skip the asrock Challenger???? Did you experience coil whine with any of them?
same reason everyone skips Inno3D or Palit
Just ready whit building my new ryzen 3600 and rx 5700 pc thanks for the build tutorial
Edit
Is it normal that my gpu fans stop spinning when I start up my pc whit out windows or something on it (rx 5700 gigabyte édition)
Yes, think of it as a full speed test pulse to show that the fans work before running on the thermal curve. TLDR similar to a vehicle gauge cluster going to max for a second when the vehicle key is turned on as test.
@@EA-or6ug oh okay thanks
Most cards these days have an auto fanless mode if the temps/voltage are low enough. Same with PSUs.
@Alexander Deris my quickest answer is Sapphire Nito+ is the best with Powercolor Red Devil as runner up if you like the look better. Sapphire Pulse for awesome for the money option.
Imagine how many homes you could provide heat to with these portable heaters
You forgot the explanation between the Sapphire and the Tuf which you said you'd give after the sound test!
really nice review.but wheres the 5800xt ? :-) thks
Where is the mech oc. I can’t barely find anything about the card
it is literally the nvidia Ventus painted for AMD, Ventus is pretty trash so I wouldnt expect otherwise for mech OC
Hosty What is trash about it? The temps? It would fit my color scheme well in my build. It is also the cheapest rx5700 in my country.
@@MasoodK The cooler runs loud and hot. And basically and low end MSI models like the Armor are pretty bad, same goes for ASUS. The only models I'd buy from Asus and Msi are their top of the line models like MSI Gaming and Strix. If you want a good budget navi card I'd look towards Sapphire, XFX or Gigabyte.
I would like to see some manual OC numbers as well.
I would have loved to see a comparison between Asus ROG strix and XFX Thicc
The supply issues are really starting to piss me off. I have never tried so hard to give a company money.
There are still driver issues. You could get an Asus or Gigabyte vega 56/64 for now, which have dropped in price.
@@cwli1 and are lower quality cards no thank you.
Availability is kind of all over the place...if nowhere is part of all over the place, then I agree.
i have a strix oc and i have never ever in 2 weeks of playing with this card having 65 +
actually the top i have seen is 65 and that was from playing almost 6 hrs in row
It would be great if you can undervolt the RX 5700 (non-XT) and then record the sound difference. Undervolted should sound just fine for most users. What is your subjective opinion on the RX 5700 soundwise?
I acutally picked up a reference card because I got it at a significant discount, 90€ less than the next cheapest aib card, and honestly it didn't feel like it would be worth it, and these results concerning the 5700 cards totaly mirror that. So I am happy with it :)
How has stability been for you guys?
I clearly want to put one of these cards in my new build. I major reason is that Nvidia and Adobe to my understanding have a connection that adds more speed in Premiere that seems to me like exclusion of AMD. Let me know if I am wrong but I see that kind of arrangement to be harmful to consumers. I definitely want to build a mini-itx build with x570 and AMD and want to use the Lian Li Tu 150 Case. That may limit me to smaller GPU cards.
How come the TUF is so quiet in your test? I've seen other tests where it was WAY louder.
Msi's fan is the only thing that get my attention, I hope it became a new standard!
You mean Sapphire
@@thelegendaryklobb2879 yes
I have the powercooler on my list, but I'm now looking at the RoG 5700 xt strix...
I'm currently rocking an Asus 1070ti Cerberus. Is 5700xt a worthy upgrade?
2080 super is coming tomorrow. Hyped.
Nice, I was considering the TUF for my SFF build.
I have one (the exact one he tested). He said there's no RGB on that card. Well, it's not entirely true, it has no RGB but it has LEDs, you just can't control the colours.
Miguel Gomes how do you like it? I really want to do a tuf theme build and all the tuf gpus before Navi we’re like 1660ti and below. Def want more performance than those gpus.
@@DreCargill93 I have random blue screens, artifacts on videos and games and sometimes black screens on boot. I haven't done a clean install yet, so the old nvidia drivers may be messing things up. I'll do a clean install this weekend and i'll get back to you once i've done that.
@@DreCargill93 After a clean install with the latest drivers i'm happy to report all problems i was experiencing are gone. It's good to max every setting in my games again :)
Miguel Gomes that’s awesome man! I appreciate you getting back to me. Def going to buy this or the XT variant.
Need my THICC boi in there
Worth waiting some Black Friday - Cyber Monday deals now? (1 month to wait, + potential "natural" $$ drops from time...)
In this video Powercolor is much quieter than reference, Asus TUF is quieter than Pulse. Something wrong with your acoustics table.
The table clearly states the avg decibels, not the sound you heard in the test.
Stuff Listen to the man from 11:48
why asus always have multi colored cables sticking out the side?... guess thats why they charge extra.....
Red Dragon looks better then the Strix from Asus.. well looks like i will stick to powercolor once again :D
Just got the ROG for a €60 discount. Very pleased with my choice seeing this video.
I really wanted the Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT but it's too damn big for my Louqe Ghost S1. Reference cards only if you plan on using a case of this size.
excellent video, only one of its kind atm
RIP to those prices he gives lmao
Yo HWC, some games/software allow you to lock the framerate by capping it. For people that might buy a card because it draws less power (because it is clocked lower), how much does the gap close by just locking the framerate so the GPU downclocks itself? A usecase scenario would be that you haven't bought a >60hz panel, or don't need something slow paced like Civilization running at 120fps and putting all that heat in your room, but you don't want to buy a lower tiered SKU of the same GPU.
i honestly need one of these channels to do an ROG Strix GTX1080ti vs 5700xt/rtx2060 super/rtx2070 super. I currently have the 1080ti and wanted to upgrade after i grab a new 3900x/x570 combo.. but honestly dont know if i even need to really.....
Lol, in Australia the price difference between the Asus strix and powercolour is 150 AUD!
That is why I bought evoke for 599 aud:)
@@Tim12-g7c the evoke didn't have the best reviews. The thicc 3 and gigabyte oc are going for good prices atm in Australia
of course they're out of stock everywhere : all the reviewers are buying them as soon as stock is available 😂
