    Instant like from me, Steve! The entry level is where a lot of volume sales will be and where the companies are more in danger of cutting just too many corners. They should be held accountable here, too! Don't get me wrong, there is a place for high end content, but I find the battle of the cheapest more interesting and relevant. PR departments, beware! :D

      I agree with that 100% Manufactures want to show you their best, I generally think it is great to try and review their worst. Because that is what a lot of people will buy.
      Especially in this case, Asus known to produce some high end cards, thick looking cooler 3 fans only to find its actually garbage.
      To nuance, bit looking at newegg for example the top sellers are mostly the better cards where people already seen reviews but on the flip side maybe cheaper cards that are not actually bad will sell more if they get coverage.

      from a technical point of view blower cards should have superior cooling to axials, they just get really shitty designs. axials are blowing air straight into an obstruction (fin stack and a circuit board) so most of their airflow is wasted in blast back. blowers are pushing air down a cast heat sink and outside of the case. how axials keep beating them in performance baffles me

    • @cgunugc
      @cgunugc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@MrOsmodeus Axials can move massively larger amounts of air, due to their lack of restrictions for their exhaust channels. Blowers have to push all their air through a tight, restrictive set of heat veins on the heat sink. Axials can take in more air because they have far easier exhaust paths - they blow air out the side, venting to the ambient air inside the case, and then rely on the case's ventilation to disperse the heat. Almost all reviewers will have properly ventilating cases, so axials will almost always be superior.

    • @FeuerblutRM
      @FeuerblutRM 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You can have 12 fans. Won't help you much if your heat sink design fails or is simply too small in dimension.
      Air flow is important. Heat spreading surface area is all the more important.

      "I am not TUF fan, but its X570 variant has nothing to do with any of its predecessors.
      The TUF Gaming X570-Plus goes further than any budget motherboard I have reviewed so far. It managed to stay under the 200 USD mark, which is not easy given the X570 chipset prices.
      Particularly loved the new RAM configuration, presence of the EZ debugger, a powerful and re-designed VRM (finally) and a richer RGB capability.

    Mind blown here! Too bad, it has fairly good asthetic but in 2019 using disconnected thin cooling plate just to cool the memory or VRM these day should be considered red flag. EVGA used this approach with their ACX 3.0 in the past and it was disaster, and this? Thanks for bringing this up Steve!

    Nice video Steve. I liked your little intro story. You also didn't hold back in what you wanted to review after the manufacturer didn't want to send the Tuff GPU out to you. Hopefully the videos you present to consumers will force manufacturers to take a second look at their products or come forward quicker with the fixes. I had actually bought an Asus RX 5700 XT before you reviewed it and it turned out to be faulty. I could be getting the Sapphire Nitro+ instead, although I would be interested in seeing the Asus fix. Good choice, the Gigabyte Gaming and Sapphire Pulse seem to be the best 5700XT's. The Red Devil and Nitro+ are nice, but too expensive. The whole point of the 5700XT is performance/$ and at $440-450+ it doesn't make as much sense anymore. At that point you might as well pay the extra $50 for an entry level 2070 Super.

I have had zero issues with this card. I have it in a really well ventilated case and it has run cool. I don't find it that loud and after putting the dB reader up against the fans...still don't find it that loud. Very high FPS for a card that cost me $368. I have about 12 other GPU's including some RTX 2070 Super and 2060 Super. I find this to be the best deal on graphics card. I have paired it with an I9-9900kf as well as a Ryzen with x570 motherboard. It has not failed to impress me. Hate to see this card get a bad name since one person with lots of subs doesn't like it.

    Kudos to you guys, as I was 3 days away from ordering the Asus tuff 5700xt due to it's price and cooling solution. Incredible that a 3 fan solution can be worse than reference, normally I judge a person not by their mistakes but by what they do about it afterwards. This doesn't work for companies like Asus as they would have already discovered how bad it was, but some fool made the mistake of thinking they would release it anyway - look after your customers and the profits will come, put profit first and watch your brand loyalty (and profit) dwindle.

I did not even considered other brands as believed I would get a quality card for the extra money I payed. The card had an extremely loud fan and had no fan control. It was always stuck on max fan speed. From that day on wards I tend to avoid ASUS products unless I have no other choice. Why is that? So.. card actually works just fine with 86-90C on memory if you adjust curve to around 50% 2.5k rpm to stay there. 30% used by default is just not enough to put some airflow. I contacted ASUS and will seek for some help, regardless it was cheap at £260 and I’ll keep it.

    This was very enlightening to see. I bought this card on a whim partly based on its appearance, and because up until this point I had no reason to believe there would be any major issues with the 5700XT cards in general. Unfortunately this card was a bit of a mess for me. It would constantly crash my system to a green screen and force a reboot when I'd tried to play a game or run a benchmark. I couldn't even monitor temperatures, due to it spazzing out once it was under any load that would get the fans seriously spinning. I can also confirm that this thing does get loud Wow! But it makes sense if this was all related to poor thermal performance. I didn't get throttling though, it just would crash or even make the display go blank. I ended up replacing it with an entirely different card. At least it looks nice!😬

    Asus also pulled a similar set of tricks with their polaris entry level cards. I bought the RX480 8Gb dual-OC card and the heatsync was tiny, the fans were loud and the shroud was needlessly bulky to make the cooler look more effective that it actually was. I eventually gave up and replaced the whole thing with an aftermarket cooler and dropped 35c under full load. I'm glad to see you're calling them out on these kinds of crappy, anti-consumer designs.
