    This is what happened to me. My Spring Plate blew up and it almost stranded me. I lost almost all power and felt like I was in 1st or 2nd gear the whole time. Such a shitty feeling. Hope this video helps some of you.
    I replaced my clutch plates with this kit. Highly recommend it!

    When ur clutch slips and u r far from home, shut off the bike, let it cool down for 15 mnts and it will ride fine for a while, then cool it again and so on. That's based on my exp with Ducatis and Honda's.

      Uhg. I went to practice for road test. After about 15 minutes of slow feathering and rear brake pressure for 'keep it loaded' my clutch would hardly digengage. Even pulled back full, it wouldn't even spring back to full closed. I immediately decided i best head home. Soon as i got on highway, cable pressure and clutch went back to normal. Wth?

    Most people under the age of forty have never driven a car with a clutch or windows that have to be rolled up. It is just the way it is, not a bad thing and not a good thing. A long time ago anyone who drove a car would at one time or another experience clutch slip and failure. The people who have been riding bikes since they were kids will also know what a slipping clutch feels like. This is a great video for all the people who have never experienced this kind of problem.

      Absolutely, but my failure was all of a sudden and a click started first so I'm not sure if this is the same failure my 2017 WR250R experienced.

    Very helpful to confirm my dirt bike clutch is defiantly slipping. Gas the crap out of it, it revs high but does not match the amount of gas I'm giving it, then levels out rpms catch up to the speed and stops slipping as you feel it fully engage. Mine is just starting to slip is very subtle but for sure is starting to go. Never had a clutch go out but now I know what it feels like thanks!

    I guess some people don't have an aptitude for things mechanical. While this bike has no tacho fitted, the engine noise is enough to tell any basic mechanic the clutch is slipping. No matter the state of tune, if it's revving high and the speedo is not matching RPM in any given gear then we have evidence of clutch slip.
    Full credits for uploading the video though, takes humility to post a fifteen minute video that will probably do wonders for the learners out there.

      Well I finally got time to mess it the bike and I wish it was the clutch. Although I did find 3 metal plates completely burnt, so I will be replacing the clutch pack. But the clutch basket nut backed completely off. Also the clutch slave pushed my clutch rod completely into the engine because the nut backed off, thus bending the clutch push rod. And causing my slave cylinder to start leaking because it over extend itself. Apparently I found a couple of people that this same thing happened to on some monster forums. Smh why Ducati I love you but it may be time for you to go bye bye

    Realize that this is from a few years back..nice info provided though and very important to know. As said more throttle but bike does not pick up speed but revs higher... then check the clutch (position, free play etc). Please remember your speed now is reduced dramatically and your bike is not picking up as fast anymore -you are in a disadvantage compared to other vehicles, they expect you to pick up and go way faster than you actually are able to now, and the danger of someone rear ending you is much higher, so place yourself and your bike on the lane closer to the shoulder of the road as soon as you realize there is something going on in order to have a safe “exit” if necessary.

    Something similar to that happened to me on my truck. I was replacing rear brake lines, to get to the fitting I had to drop the fuel tank disconnecting lines etc. I finished the job and hooked everything back up, and the truck ran like absolute crap. For 2 weeks I chased a fuel delivery/ignition problem because that was the last thing I touched (after a repair if something else is wrong that wasn't there before is usually your fault lol). After week 2 (lol) I began to branch out and test other stuff. Finally I found it was the EGR valve was sticking open slightly longer than it should. Had nothing to do with what I had previously done just like this had nothing to do with autotune lol

Haven't taken it apart yet (just happened 3 days ago about 1.5 miles from home) but on my bike its a breeze. Got a video saved already. Had plenty of time while I was stranded, waiting for bike to cool off, thinking that it was just an overheated clutch. $200 for a new clutch pack, oil, new gaskets and I should be ready to go. Last Sunday my bike began doing exactly this, at first I thought it wasn't firing like it should. Then I realized that the problem was worse when I was in 4th and 5th gear. Now I have to rebuild my clutch and it's something I can't hardly afford since I just put a new tire on the back last Wednesday.

    • @exanimisrex3808
      @exanimisrex3808 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DanDanTheFireman yeah because it's still running fine, it just seems to be slipping in higher gears. When I had the tire put on my mechanic told me I would need a cloth later but he said it should hold up a few months. It lasted less than a week but he did tell me to watch for problems in higher gears and not to ride it so that I wouldn't do more damage than just the plates. It's going to cost me between $150 and $200 for parts and I plan on doing the work myself, your videos will help with this even though my bike is a Honda Shadow vt750 ace.

      DanDanTheFireman part of the reason I bought my bike is because I knew it would need lots of work and I want to learn as much as I can about working on it. The cost of parts and repairs is more than I can really afford but eventually I will get the repairs done and learn a lot along the way. I guess I got what I wanted and I do love my bike.

    I was in the same exact situation today riding from Upstate NY to Jersey. The problem did not present itself until I was riding uphill and started to lose power on the rear wheel but Revs still high. Luckily, I made it home by only going 45mph and maintaining revs up to 2500 and on 3rd gear. Taking my 18 Street Glide with only 2k miles on it (pretty much new) to dealer to see what the actual problem is inside the trans.

      For some strange reason my clutch cable tightened up. I had thought forsure as the friction plates wore down the cable would become loose. I didn't smell the clutch but if I was doing over 60mph in 5th and pinned it the digital screen would say it dropped down to 4th gear and the bike would Rev really loud. I loosened up my clutch cable a bit to get more play in the lever and it seems to have solved my issue. When I couldn't smell burnt clutch it made me feel like something was out of adjustment. I've just never had a clutch cable go tighter on its own like that before

    Thanks so much for having the courage to post the video of your personal experience with the clutch issue! Impressive that the bike still got you home.
    Even though I've read some about the "grenade" plate in the clutch blowing out and also about clutch adjustment, this would be a new experience for me as my first bike was a new 2016 Iron 883 in March of 2016. I just got my Iron back from 5K service and to me the clutch still feels like it only catches at the top (last bit of letting the lever out). I was really hoping they'd adjust that since I mentioned it...no dice. Either they didn't adjust the clutch at all or I just don't understand it and it is supposed to be like that on a sportster (though I thought caught sooner on the lever in first few months of riding). I had already tried adjusting the lever / cable but all that did was provide more free play in the lever or not. I don't think it's supposed to be like this as my new dyna catches right away when releasing the lever. I may have to just do the clutch upgrade like you did and then I can get this more to my liking. Do you know much about where the clutch should start grabbing (friction zone) on sportsters? (I know the 48 has a heavier clutch spring than the 883 but I would think the friction zone should be similar). I was considering clutch upgrade found on Hammer website, with heavier spring.

    I had this same issue. People kept telling me it wasn't the clutch that it was the FP3. It was definitely the clutch! I think the extra power from the stage 1 made the grenade ring blow up. I would recommend everyone with the stock clutch replace it before this happens. The fragments from spring plate will eat up your clutch basket and that's a 300 dollar part. The clutch plates are easy to replace and cheap compared to having to replace the basket and the clutch plates.

    • @Kasperblk
      @Kasperblk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Queef Micester
      I used a Barnett extra clutch plate kit. But you can use any clutch you want. However the stock clutch has a riveted spring plate which is the main problem with the stock clutch. That plate wears down over time and the plate falls apart. Then all those pieces cause your clutch to slip and also it eats away at the clutch basket. Most people experience this around 15000 miles, however my bike had almost 25000 before this problem presented itself.

    The first place where your going to notice slippage is in high gear under heavy acceleration. The last place (totally fried) is when it slips in first gear. Then no drive.
    If you notice slippage change clutch asap because the fiber is circulating around in the oil.

    Hey Dan, recently I had to adjust the clutch cable...one day I was riding and the handle just became loose. I watched your video and did the clutch adjustment... everything was fine. So my problem is every time I start my bike , the handle is loose...once I start riding it tightens up. I went home and as I turned the bike off there was a huge “Ka-chunk!” Next day I was at a stop sign and the bike started sputtering and shut off...wouldn’t start, wouldn’t go forward or backwards, wouldn’t let me change the gear. I quickly got off, re-adjusted the clutch cable, jumped it, started back up and drove home, no problems. Someone mentioned that it might be a frayed or stretched clutch cable? Any thoughts? Sorry for the long message.

    I had a clutch go out on me at 3k miles. Brand new bike. It can happen at any time. So never discount your miles. If you run hard they could glaze over. And they eventually get brittle and fall apart. Best way to tell is by popping the clutch in all the gears. If there is no pull, its is trash.
