  • I'm going to show you, in a nutshell, how you can find the ideal Chiang Mai condo for your family in ONE day. Are you ready? Leggo.
    Everything you've heard about renting an apartment in Chiang Mai is probably correct - it's easy as 1-2-3 and you will most likely find your new home within a day of searching.
    In our case, as we were traveling as a family of four, we had somewhat higher standards when it came to finding the right Chiang Mai rental - we needed a few household items that most travelers without kids could probably do without. Plus, we were in Thailand, we wanted to live it up a little - so, a little luxury didn't hurt nobody, right?
    So, if you're looking for an apartment in Chiang Mai, Thailand, then these are the 5 best tips that we can give you coming from our own recent experience on our trip to this stunning mountainous region in Thailand.

    If you are super cheap like me, you pay 2700baht a month and stay at up north garden inn. Walking distance to Maya, perfect location. Also when I was there they were getting stricter, the international licence had to have motorbike licence stamped otherwise got slugged with the fine. Think it depends who stopped you on the day.

    Thanks for all of these super helpful tips! We are transitioning into the digital nomad life and have been thinking of Chiang Mai as somewhere that might be cool to live next year. Getting an apartment in such a foreign country does seem daunting, but you make it seem super easy! Who knew that had such fast internet though?!

    Although your channel's focus is for families, I find as a single retiree who likes culture and not the nightlife to be one of the best. So many channels seem to emphasize SE Asia nightlife to much which is not of much interest to me at the expense of the cultural things to do. Thanks again.

    How much cash should you have when you get off the plain? Is there a way to use a bank account in Thailand? Don't like the idea of having Large sum of money on me.

    • @HangryByNature
      @HangryByNature  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! There's ATMs at the airport by some of the major banks in Thailand which you can use, but you'll probably have to pay a fee depending on your bank at home. Otherwise there's also plenty of currency exchange places at the airport. I always recommend exchanging to local currency when you arrive because the rate is usually better than exchanging in your own country. As to how much you'll need to get to from the airport to the city... 1000 Baht will definitely get you by. The ATMs at 7 Eleven Convenience Stores (which are everywhere) are also safe to use and we've withdrawn from there plenty of times.

    • @TheWaterman1000
      @TheWaterman1000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll do more research. Just need to know so when I get to town is to have enuf for a couple knights and book an apt. Food and transportation. I did find out that if you can get a bank of Bangkok account in Thailand you can use the routing number for their branch in the U.S. to transfer fund from a U.S. bank to the new York branch and not get dinged and with draw in Thailand. Need to nail that down more. Would like to get a Visa for longer than the 30-90 days to take my time. I also heard there's no more VISA runs anymore.

    I'm sure we'll end up doing some time in Chiang Mai at some point so this is really helpful for us. I thought the electricity was pretty cheap. Our electricity in Australia is over $250 per month. I think we're getting ripped off in Townsville.

    Great thoughts, we really love renting home /condos, esp. thru VRBO. It gives us the space we love with kiddos but at a great price. However, guides like this are even more important if you are talking more than a week lol (like we usually do) ... we would love to live in chiang mai!!!

    • @TravelingGraces

      @@HangryByNature No but it's high on our list. Vrbo is like airbnb if you are familiar with that, but it is only whole units/homes (not ppl just renting out rooms), works much better than hotels for us

    You caught my attention already by mentioning "digital nomad". Good tips on the rental of scooters, I might want to try that out when I'm visiting Chiang Mai. From what you've covered sounds like everything in Chiang Mai is dirt cheap, I would definitely want to stay there for a month or two to live up that digital nomad lifestyle. Thanks for the tips!

      Are you heading to Thailand any time soon? I was actually super surprised that their internet speed was ridiculously fast in most places (like, 20x faster than Australia) and not to forget... THE FOOD! Freakin' incredible.

      @JefflesChangy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Hangry, been excited to watch your video! Yen and I are definitely going to follow your footsteps with Chiang Mai. Yen and I are going to live there one day soon too hopefully. We love how affordable everything is and this is seriously the best informative guide i've seen on Chiang Mai on TH-cam. Can't pronounce the area where you stayed but it looks good! 900 us for a 1 bedroom seems pretty reasonable. Liked all the tips on how not to get scammed too. Bookmarked! I'm really curious do you guys work as well while travelling?

    • @HangryByNature
      @HangryByNature  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww thanks, guys! Sometimes I reckon our videos are just too much blah blah information overload, like, I fall asleep watching our own vids. Means a lot! Yeah, you can find much cheaper than $900... I've seen people find apartments as low as $100 per month. But then again, you'd have to drastically lower your standards. We enjoy a bit of lux ;) We work on our blog for the most part, but mainly when we get the opportunity to slow down like in Chiang Mai or back at home. Otherwise it's impossible with kids jumping from one place to another.

    Tash says team Ironman! haha. Awesome information thanks, as we have not been yet, but it's highly likely we will end up there at some point, haha. Kids standing on the front of scooters blows us away, we just imagine people trying to get away with that back home, bahaha. And here in Vietnam you can tell the family scooters, because they have a little pillow on the dash so the kid can take a nap while they are riding around😂

      What kid wouldn't love it! Haha, I watch them here thinking, "Man I wish we had got around like that when I was a kid" i envision all these scooters zipping around NZ with little Kiwi kids standing at the front giving each other the head nod and eyebrow raise as they roll past, hahaha. As for what team I'm on, seeing as you don't have black widow back there, I've gotta go with Cap's team just to mess with Tash, haha.

      You can find them online on google search or apartment rental companies etc. Then, when you get to Chiang Mai you can go up to the place and talk to them directly. This way you can negotiate and get a feel of the place in person too.

  • @shagwellington
    @shagwellington 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The prices for rentals you quote are way more than other veteran ex-pats quote for 1 bedrooms and studios. The 28 Baht for water sounds high. I guess Nimmen has inflated quite a lot. The landlords you have to watch out for are the Australian and other westerners. They won't return your deposit. Stick to Thai owners. Watch out for Westerners, they will scam you as much as anyone.

    • @HangryByNature
      @HangryByNature  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think we also went to 'touristy' long-term apartment rental places. You can definitely get much cheaper, but we were pretty happy with our apartment which provided a lot of kid-friendly facilities. I suppose Nimman is also a hub for foreigners and expats, so that's probably why it's slightly dearer overall as well. Oh, that's good to know! I actually have no idea where the owners of our apartment are from, we only dealt with the admin/reception person. Thanks for the tips!
