Extremely helpful for car buying. Please talk about your car gasoline consumption, maintenance any repairs since you bought and all cost associated with Nissan..Thanks!!!
Expat Auto have been known for quality for more than 10 years now. That's might be the reason that they are not the cheapest car dealer around. If I lived in CM, I would definitely check them out when looking to buy a car. If I was looking for a resonable small car that's reliable, I would look to Toyota Vios, Honda City or Mazda 2. I had the previous generation Toyota Vios, and it's indestructible like a tank. It's not the most fancy or best equipped car around, but it has the best engine in it's class in my opinion.
Thanks Tony, I might have to go see this dealer. I ended up buying a Ford Ranger and I feel it's a bit bigger than the narrow roads. Not like what we are used to. 😀
Thanks Tony for another wonderful video. Cars are the second expenses after the house rental. I'm not familiar with the process and now I know to go to the expat auto to buy a used car.
I almost bought a 2012 Fortuner (diesel) with 200,000 km from a dealer. I spent 4 hours there and 3k baht for the "fees". It was 600k baht and I had 120k baht (20%) to put down. After all that time on a Saturday, they said the bank would get back to me in a few days. On the following Tuesday they said they would finance it if I paid 50% down, which I didn't have. Also, I had just gotten my non O retirement visa and they said to consider a 20% down loan I would have to live here for 5 years (I came in July of 2021 to Phuket Sandbox on tourist visa then converted to Education visa. I also inquired with Ford on a new Ranger as they said they would finance Farangs with 30% down, but that was in December of 2022 and now (March 2023) they have changed their mind and want 50% down for foreigners. They seem to change their minds everytime the wind changes directions. I ran into a similar problem with Phuket immigration--they said I needed to do a "border run" to come back and file for a new non-O. I honestly think they don't know what they're talking about half the time because that is not what it says on their website. I have decided to go to the Philippines for a month to see if I like it better there. I know it is something like $200 to stay for three years. Here I am paying 25,000 baht every year--not sustainable. I don't think Thailand really wants us here so I will spend my pension somewhere else. I do like Thailand otherwise but cannot think of it long term anymore.
Hi Samantha, the price of the vehicle includes all road tax/registration (min 3 months left as we cannot extend before this), transport office inspection/ transfer fees, compulsory government insurance, and 7% VAT sales taxes.
Used cars and bikes/scooters are expensive. I think it would be better to buy new. When it comes time to sell, you will get the benefit of a healthy resale value.
Brand new car of around 600K THB you loose just driving it away from new car dealer around 150K THB. If you got the cash we think it is worth it more to get a 1 or 2 years old car with very little KM :)
@@TheNarrowGate noted on MG, I wouldn't touch anything from China haha. But Kia n Hyundai r actually not bad just that I can't find them in Thailand much? My family car is a Hyundai Avante n it's solid.
@@TheNarrowGate thanks I'm getting my 10 year visa sorted moving to Phuket Chalong Rawai area, will be taking my 8 year jack Russell born in Hong Kong should be used to hot weather any tips?
Best wishes for your move. Our Jack Russell loves the hot weather here in Chiang Mai, it didn't take her any time at all to adjust. I think she prefers the heat.😎
If buying a car in Thailand and you aren't going to do your own repairs stick with the brands and models with a history for reliability and attaining high mileage. Toyota: Camry, Fortuner, any truck, corolla. Honda: civic, accord, crv. Mazda are also great but parts availability is much much lower. Do not buy models that are also used as taxi's as a paint job and new dash are cheap. If you can do your own work that opens up a plethora of BMW and older Mercedes options but if you can't do the work yourself stay away. Facebook is a great source of used cars but you need to know how to do a proper used car inspection unless you get to know a local repair shop and can get the car there pre purchase(not an easy task depending where you are at).
The Kia Picanto is a rare car in Thailand the newer model (2012) is more popular so if possibile i reccomend checking out the newer Picanto since its more common
Can a foreigner with a work permit buy a car without waiting for 3 months? According to Thai ruling, i'm supposed to wait at least 3 months before I can buy a car. Some say as long as pay in cash can buy a car anytime from a dealer. Also looking at 2nd hand cars, mostly sedan or hatchback.. any to recommend?
@@TheNarrowGate Thanks buddy! I love cars as you can see hence been researching... going to work in Chiang Rai from April 2024 - May 2025 next year :) Expat Auto not in Chiang Rai but oh well, i'll try and find some other dealers hopefully who speak English :) Here in Singapore, cars are TRIPLE the pricing you see in thailand man.. to me, a car in thailand ain't ex at all compared to SG. lol! in SG, an 8 year old Hyundai is like 29K SGD... for like 2 more years to drive.. every 10 years must RENEW a stupid PAPER and it can be as high as a 100k SGD.. there is a 32 year old Toyota still on my roads here, that is valued at 47K SGD lol! ... my thai friend said, no way.. its only 2k SGD lol.
hey Tony do you know if car yards here are negotiable? there is ranger i'm buying today 50% cash 50% finance and the yard is being so difficult wont even move 1 baht down. my wife is Thai and I think they just think we need finance so being hard is this the case or are not just firm like that here?
A Motorcycle is easier to navigate and Park, but a car is a lot more useful during the rainy season or when it’s severely hot and you can turn on the air conditioner.
Went to look at a new MG yesterday can't believe it is made in my country UK shipped to China then shipped to Thailand no wonder new cars are so expensive I would not buy a used car in Thailand with all the crazy drivers about you don't know who has had it
Great video very informative👍 If I get over there and stay, I would like a Ford Ranger 4x4 extra cab with the longest box possible to haul a motorcycle. Sounds like in the land of smiles. I need to protect yourself from buying a used vehicle that’s for sure. The land of smiles turns into the land of stab you in the back! That’s very dishonest to sell someone a vehicle and have the engine blew up a week later. They knew there was a problem. Karma is a bitch!
Thumbs up 👍
After all the horror stories about used cars I decided to buy a new car for a little bit more baht

The only thing I have had done was a new battery and an oil change. Don't remember the price but it was cheap.

Want to get a small box car for tight parking spaces and less blind spots.
Wow! So affordable. I would be able to purchase a car, moped and a nice condo for just under $100,000.

Do you pay use tax when buying a new or used car? Is there some sort of registration fee?
I actually don’t remember that part but you could always message the car place. I was interviewing there’s a link in the description.
I've heard that cash is king in Thailand. Can you negotiate car prices if you're paying cash?
Not by much
Nice video..but wow second hand not cheap...
Yep, not cheap.
Can an American Expat with a retirement Visa Finance a Used Cari here in Thailand? Everyone Drives a Used Car, so crazy to buy a new one.
I don’t know any expats who’ve ever financed one so I can’t answer that.
12k a year for fully comprehensive insurance is very reasonable.
need
