Vincent Colussi hello, I’ve been looking to do this to my car but wasn’t able to find anyone to do it for me. Do you know a place in California that’ll do this kind of job? I have 2007 Saturn ion as well let me know thanks
@@JoeyLovesTrains No issues drove it daily for 3 years afterwards, then summer drove it another year before selling the car. Ended up building the motor and putting a TVS 1320 on it a year before I sold the car. Still running fine with the new owner, we keep in touch
Great video! I am planning to supercharge 2.2 JTS Alfa Romeo 159 SW. The block of this engine is sourced from GM (Ecotec L61) and I hope it will work same as here...
its a great video, thanks! i just bought the supercharger for my SS 2.4 and i planing to play with that in october. would be great if you can post a video of walktrough installing it. cheers!
I have an 02 Olds Alero with the L61 2.2L and I've been wanting to do the inside of the motor for a while now but can't find anyone that has done one. I was wondering if you had any pointers on what to do. I've seen many turbo'd and supercharged. just non with bigger pistons and cams
CARLOS EMMANUEL RUVALCABA DIAZ yes. You need to use the GM reflash for a tune though unless you do standalone. You are cable throttle driven so the electronic info in this doesn't apply to your built. Look up the cavalier 2.2 builds they'll have your vacuum line routing and throttle body info. Believe you can upgrade yours to an ls1 throttle body to an m62 blower if you buy an adapter plate
I will do a mini one yes. I already have it all installed and running for 3 months now. I'm going to upload an engine bay talk through video with it all in, and some idle/driving footage
No calibration needed it will simply provide a more accurate temperature reading post-supercjarger as opposed to in the air intake tube. When you're tuning and you select Supercharger Equipped = Enabled, it takes care of the backend for you in the algorithms and table connections for the ECM. It's all built in. Make sure you enable that setting.... will also make your ecm look for higherbarometric pressures from the MAP sensor. Stock GM TMAP sensor will give you plenty of room to work with.
Since it was based on the Gen II block, I would say yes. Manifold should bolt on, same with IC Pump bracket, pulleys and idlers etc. Tuning will obv be different from an L61, is the LAP VVT?
If you have a 2.2 then yes because these parts will fit onto an L61 block. Some companies such as ZZP won't be able to do your tune since it's a 2003, but if you can find a local source then you should be good to go
Brett Weston cobalt ss Facebook forum. Intercooler is stock with the lsj manifold using lsj heat exchanger, and later I added a zzp heat exchanger in series. Option b tank and dual pass endplate.
Turbo it. But you need to build your bottom end those na 2.3 lima engines will not hold boost. You'll melt your pistons over like 8psi from what I've heard. I've had 2 thunderbird turbo coupes, very familiar with those 2.3s
Change to a smaller pulley. Re-tune for more fuel. Upgrade your injectors if you have to. I went from a 3.1" pulley to a 2.9". You need 60# injectors for a 2.9" pulley or smaller, the 42# won't provide enough under high boost. Exhaust mods help, improve your air intake etc. Anything beyond that you're looking at valve work, porting your head, intake manifold and blower... cams to improve duration etc.
I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu (not classic) with the 2.2 in it. I heard that there are different types of GM 2.2L engines out there from around the same time but are technically different generations. I've done a decent amount of research on if this kit would work with my engine but I'm very new to cars and I am getting very confused with everything I'm reading. Anyone know if this would work with my engine?
My friend boosted his 2003 2.2L. Similar idea to this, you need to use a different throttle body because yours is cable and the cobalt/ion/g5 is electronic. JBody forums has lots of info on it for you
I got mine of Facebook forums. There are a few good ones such as: - Cobalt Nation Buy/Sell/Trade - Ion Redline Lovers - Ion Redline Forums - Ecotec Nation - Cobalt Nation Search the sale posts in these odds are you can pick one up for 100-300USD depending on condition
It was a stock M62 from a Cobalt SS, or Ion Redline. Roots style blower. Intercooler is build into the intake manifold, flows through the 4 cores inside the intake manifold. Dual pass endplate to speed up the flow. 2 head exchangers up front. Liquid cooling system (mimicing the Cobalt SS setup but with some upgrades). Plus the Option B tank bleeds air much better than stock setup.
The TMAP diagram is on the far left (LSJ sensor). The OEM MAP is the same as the one on the upper right. Depending on your year, your car may not have an IAT sensor. My 2007 L61 does not have an IAT (lower right sensor in the diagram I linked to you). This temp reading comes from the MAF sensor in my car, so replace IAT in that diagram with the temp wire from the MAF and you're good to go.
You should have the set-up that's in the diagram I sent you then. A MAF sensor for pressure, and an IAT sensor for temperature. Should be able to follow that diagram then and send your TMAP reading to your ECU by splitting into the IAT wire which pins into your ECU. Don't touch the low reference wire in your IAT only split into the sensor signal (tan wire)
legendary kickzz Eaton m62. Stock blower for the cobalt SS and ion redline. Currently building a forged internal engine with ported head to put a TVS 1320 onto.
Vincent Colussi ok so I have an 02 Chevy cavalier I tried looking for everything I will need. But can I use exactly you used? And it be fine since I have the same exact, 2.2 L ecotec engine?
Close to mine but you have Cable-controlled throttle body whereas mine is electronic. Plus you have an IAT sensor so you'll need to split your TMAP temperature reading into your IAT harness for your computer to recognize it. I have a MAF sensor yours does not. Look up the ultimate J-body build guide. Tonnes of good info for the cavaliers. And for tune, you can use the GM re-flash from the dealer.
Braden Bach the parts will fit yes. But your tune would need to be standalone since you're 2006 and under. ZZP only offers tuning for the 2007 and up same with other major tuning sources like trifecta (I don't think they offer it anymore for ecotec). But if you can find a local tuner first, then I'd look into doing the build after
You bought all that for $800?!?!? Whats your secret man? I found a parts list online and after just the charger, injectors, intake, tensioner, pulley, throttle body, and manifold (all used) I'm over $1000. Whats your secret?
Perfectly fine. Put 27000kms it with the 2.7 pulley and meth injection. 17psi. Tore the motor apart last year to do a full build, zero signs of any damage. Even was able to reuse the main bearings and rod bearings. They were mint still. Videos this spring of new setup. TVS1320 blower on a 2.6 pulley. BRFPR fuel system and meth, stage 3+ clutch. 23psi and rotated mounts/solid bushings. Fun platforms to build!
Thanks for the video! I'm going to do this to a 2.2/2.4 Saturn Vue or Chevy Cobalt using the parts from my totalled Saturn ion redline (rear ended)
I know this video is old, but do you still have the pin out information for your IAT2 maf map info?
Check out Part 2! Engine-bay walk through, start-up and idle, and some driving pulls :)

Thanks man I have the g5 platform and will be looking to upgrade my system in few years.
I've got a 2003 Sunfire with a 2.2 bolted to a 5 speed manual. Will this work with my setup?
a lot of people say you can’t, can you ? yes , however you will need the kit, and possibly a little fabrication, is it worth it ? absolutely.

How did u mount that tensioner if the old tensioner only has one hole I keep blowing the 2,2 tensioner
Nice thanks for uploading. Romanti Italia!
Will this work for a HHR
Would you recommend this or a turbo charge for a 2.2l alero i wonder what i can swap the engine for
Can i have the list of parts?
it is possible to mount it in a cavalier 2004?
CARLOS EMMANUEL RUVALCABA DIAZ yes. You need to use the GM reflash for a tune though unless you do standalone. Download the GM sport compact performance build book.
Plug and play from oem staff is the way to go... gm performance, ford racing, mopar,...?
Based more my 2.2 off your video. Getting turned by ZZP. Is there a file they or you have saved?
Will you be doing an install/ tutorial video?
I will do a mini one yes. I already have it all installed and running for 3 months now. I'm going to upload an engine bay talk through video with it all in, and some idle/driving footage
what's the list of thing that you've received your supercharger
Will this work on my 2.4 ss cobalt?it doesn’t have turbo or super charger
Great video! Is there anyway you could send me a complete parts list?? It would save me so much time. Thanks!
zzperformance has a complete kit. u can see what is included
Is it still possible to buy this supercharger kit?
When u wired ur iat to the tmap sensor. Did u change the iat calibration. Is so where did u get the info?
No calibration needed it will simply provide a more accurate temperature reading post-supercjarger as opposed to in the air intake tube.

Thank you for the great walkthrough! I was wondering will this work on the later LAP i4 ecotec? Will everything still fit?
Since it was based on the Gen II block, I would say yes.
Manifold should bolt on, same with IC Pump bracket, pulleys and idlers etc.

Bro im interested. With injectors and charger. How much hp?
You think this can work on the 2004 ion
Where did you get your whole kit from? What did you do for a heat exchanger/intercooler?
Brett Weston cobalt ss Facebook forum. Intercooler is stock with the lsj manifold using lsj heat exchanger, and later I added a zzp heat exchanger in series. Option b tank and dual pass endplate.
Where you buy a supercharger is it cheap I have a 2.3l 4-cylinder Ford ranger custom 1988 and I want to put a supercharger on it

I got all my parts used online on facebook groups!
anything new I needed was from ZZPerformance:)
what if its before 05?
I had the same question bc I have an 2005 so I was wondering If there was a difference
Is this the zzp kit?
Is the belt that came with the 3.1" pulley compatible with 2.9" or 2.6"?
Yes there's a belt tensioner
so now that you added the supercharger and runs high 14s, is there anything else that you can do to make it faster?
Change to a smaller pulley. Re-tune for more fuel. Upgrade your injectors if you have to. I went from a 3.1" pulley to a 2.9". You need 60# injectors for a 2.9" pulley or smaller, the 42# won't provide enough under high boost.

What about 2006??? Can't tune them!!!
i wouldnt put the cold air intake filter so close to the ground, they dont pick up as much dirt as a stock airfilter would.
You can get prefilter covers to protect from incidents like that
The point is to get cold air, not hot air from inside the engine bay.
Link to parts?
Guess I just rip all these parts off a part out SS cobalt
