    You may have seen my digital caliper round-up video from about 2 years ago. I wanted to prove that you can get a good quality digital caliper without spending a lot of money. I proved that you can and determined what you should look for when buying a digital caliper. I put this Shars caliper to the test and found that it is a worthy caliper. Especially if you pay a little more and get the one that is checked by a 3rd party independent metrology lab.
    This caliper does have Auto Shut Off after a period of inactivity, which makes it my new top pick for an Absolute Origin Digital Caliper

    Just got a set today that will live on the headstock tray of my lathe for quick measurements. Happy so far

    It's a great day when you put out a review video. Can't get enough.

    It appears these are basically the same caliper as the iGaging (and Procheck and likely others) calipers. The on and off power consumption is almost the same. The LCD, button layout etc also seems to be the same. It appears we have several different brands going to the same manufacture but the SHARS brand opted for a different housing for the same guts.
    BTW, that doesn't mean they are bad guts! I had already found iGaging's large display calipers and based on GadgetClass's reviews I also picked up the Prochecks (they were clearly the same as the iGaging origin calipers. Thanks for the effort in these videos!

      ralathr They are in fact pretty similar. They incorporated auto-off on this one, which is nice.

    you have the best caliper reviews. I just wish caliper makers would start using back-lit lcd.

      I wouldn't mind a back-lit display either, but a lot of the power consumption nazis would freak about the battery drain.

    • @WV591
      @WV591 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes I'm sure that is the reason. but still, i don;t mind removing the battery if it's easy slide type storage. i always do with all these gadgets. small price to pay for a nice back-lit .so far from what I've seen of your excellent reviews the Igaging wins in accuracy and price point.

      +WV591 I'm actually liking this Shars because of the auto-off. From what I can tell these are made in the same factory as the iGaging (the user manuals are identical).

      But twice as much and same accuracy. i own a off brand that is extremely accurate but sucks the life out of that small size battery and to make things worse it requires me to remove 4 small screws that need magnifier. so now i just have a rubber band holding the damn battery in when i use it. who was the moron that came up with 4 screw compartment. And yes i did notice that before i bought it but i had no idea this caliper would be like cars of the 70's with gas.

      +WV591 Is it a Capri? I tested one of those in my round-up. ended up giving it away.

    You never mentioned how it stacked up, in feel or accuracy, compared to the Mitutoyo or the iGaging. Would love to know. In my machine shop, Shars tools have been a running joke in the past, though they do a few things really well, and have been stepping up lately. Thanks for the thorough reviews, as always.

      I have igaging and would like the auto turn off feature

    • @GadgetClass
      @GadgetClass  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Auto off is really nice. Coupled with the fact that it draws practically nothing when off, this is a good contender for the igaging OriginCal

    • @GadgetClass
      @GadgetClass  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry. I was trying to fit a lot of information into as little time as I could. In terms of feel and smoothness it is as good as the iGaging OriginCal. Not quite as buttery as the Mitutoyo, but you can't tell unless you use them side by side.
      The angled corner of the housing covers up the thumb wheel on one side, which is different than pretty much every other caliper out there. It is good for ensuring you use a proper downward force on the thumb wheel, but it "Looks" like it is in the way for some reason. I think it's just because I'm used to being able to see the full thumb wheel on every other caliper. It doesn't really get in the way at all. It's more of a visual thing.

    What's the model, product, or SKU number? All I see are Aventor models listed on their web site which one is which? Do your comments also apply to the 8 inch models?
    Looks like shipping rates ordering from Shars may be better than better than Amazon third party.

    Hi , nice review what about shars caliper vs igaging absolute which one do you recommend ? Thanks in advance :)

    • @GadgetClass
      @GadgetClass  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Odys polymechanos They are nearly identical. The Event is has auto off which is nice. This iGaging has fractional output and a standard Mitutoyo style SPC data cable though. I still like the iGaging Absolute myself

    I can't believe I'm having to ask this question. You'd think it would be simple enough to know one model from another. But-- your link takes you to a caliper for $59.95 which is perpetually out of stock. But they have another one on their products page [products > measuring > calipers] for $42.95 (in stock) and it bears the model number that I see on your box. Can you please clarify? Thank you. Great videos!

      One model has been certified by a 3rd party. You pay more for this the cheaper one is fine.
