    The old Complete Guide to Ships had some of my favorite world-building in the description of the GR-75 medium transport. Apparently, the Alliance picked them up at steep clearance discounts - dimes on the dollar for a ship capable of rapidly loading, moving, and unloading as much sheer tonnage as the GR-75 can - because Gallofree Yards, the company that built the ships, was going out of business.
    However, the Alliance techs maintain that even with fire-sale prices, they were still _robbed._ Not only are the ships painfully slow and about as durable as a soap bubble, they also managed to be a maintenance nightmare, despite a pretty simple design. The Alliance fleet's techs ended up breaking down something like one in five GR-75s for parts to keep the rest running.
    Still, if you need a container ship on a shoestring budget, the GR-75's your man, so the Alliance keeps these deathtraps in service.

    For people, who asked "why don't they just steal star destroyers and use them?" It's actually answered in the comics (canon), the Rebels doesn't have that many people to spare, Star Destroyers needs a lot of people to fully operate. Leia actually hijacked one, but only had a few thousands of workers, this makes the star destroyer a "ghost ship" because they couldn't even detect enemy ships.

      @@lukesearle1302 just remembered in Legends/Extended Universe that one time Chewie customized a bunch of bombs to fit one of the escape pod launchers. Then he left a trail of them like land mines. Space mines, I guess we should call them.
      For some reason, I've been fixated on looking up YT-1300 plans this past month. Even fan art. There's a dev art where someone put extra turrets by replacing the side docking rings. So that'd be four individual guns in addition to the launcher between the mandibles. 👍
      I would pick the Stock Passenger version, so (most of) my small crew/family can get their own rooms, and still be able to take cargo jobs using the mandibles. If pressed into combat, we got more field of fire than average. Also, I've been considering a fixed blaster cannon mounted to the cockpit, giving even the pilot shooting ability.

      There has been several reasons given, though non I like that much. First, they were throwing everything they had at the ds2, even if they are worst than a kitchen sink. Second, they served as cannon fodder, though that doesn’t seem like the rebels strategy. And third, the alliance wasn’t willing to leave them alone in another system since they are defenceless, and the alliance couldn’t spare ships to leave behind to protect them. Non of those reasons seem good to me, and the real reason is the film makers already had the models and wanted to add some variety to the fleet at endor.

    Well, as an economist/businessman I am a bit concerned about these price tags. I saw a vid not that long time ago, stating the republic/imperial credits can be converted to USD on 1:1 ratio ... sort of ... that seems to make ships of capital grade especially really cheap in my opinion - I do not want brag around (but I do) ... I am good for 1 CR-90 +100% operation costs per year (including crew salaries) ... ofc I assume I would make some incomes while operating such a ship; from the economic view I would prefer doing business with the Medium Tranports, for 180k credits you get a really big cargo hauler, vs. like the YT-1300s, which is a pick-up truck in this regard (or similar ships) ... moving upwards, a Nebulon-B is out of my reach, but I know some people personally who could buy and operate at least 1 or maybe more ... moving upwards, our customers (mostly multinationals) would not really drop a sweat for buying an MC75 or similar ships ... IMO these price tags should go up by 5x or 10x or more ... ofc you can steal pretty much anything, but thats another matter ...

According to Wookiepedia, the VCX-100 is 43.9 meters long and 34.2 meters wide. The YT-1300 is only 34.75 meters long, so it is not only shorter than the VCX, but it is barely longer than the larger ship is wide.

    Why the hell are you saying bullshit about Nebulon B?
    Nebulon B was never intended to replace a star destroyer as a system's main defense capital ship. It was made as an escort frigate, usually on anti-starfighter duty.
    If a less important system needed a capital ship then a victory star destroyer or arquitens command cruiser was put there, maybe even an Acclamator.

    The CR-90 Corvette and the Hammerhead Corvette are honestly the most efficient vessels of the Rebel Fleet. The CR-90 is faster, whereas the Hammerhead can take or give a beating. Stolen or purchased corvettes were, after all, what started the buildup of the Rebel Alliance.

I'm in a stem field and there are plenty of women.

Upgrade the hull armor, shielding and hyperdrive and leave the original as a backup that would be used normally. Most famous and overall powerful MC80 Home One type, that was a defensive behemoth and could almost go toe to toe with battlecruisers thanks to 10 squadrons of fighters aboard. MC80B that had more anti capitalship firepower than Home One but carried only 4 starfighter squadrons. Later bacame a more mass produced main fleet component and got modified to carry 8 squadrons of fighters. MC80 Liberty type that carried only 3 starfighter squadrons and couldn't really win against a star destroyer, even Imp-I but could absorb a lot of fire. Wingless MC 80 Liberty type that was cheaper but didn't carry any fighters on board and finally MC80A which was rather weak, barely going toe to toe with Victory star destroyers, but with 6 starfighters squadrons on board it was one of the better carriers Rebel alliance had.

    Pretty sure that most MC80 cruisers were 1200 to 1300m, bigger than the Vic at 900, but still rather shorter than the ISD at 1600m. Being converted freightors or civilian liners until mich later, I question the power output ability for the various shields and the weapons ability against an ISD, as well as the armor, internal structural strength and armored decks compared to a warship designed for such damage.
    They also cant carry either the troops or ground vehicles or as many small ships as an ISD.
    If an ISD gave up its ground troops for space attack craft then an ISD would crush any MC80 without ever firing its main guns. Ship to ship alone the ISD has twice the turbolasers on a flank that an MC80 does, and then has 30 heavy ion cannons before we add in the main battery turrets.
    I think that people who claim the Mon Cals are superior than ISDs are suffering from the "rebel" thinking and simply wishing and hoping the MCs into a class that they arent in, becuase plot armor.
    Loking at the shuttles an ISD carries the minimum number is 37 before counting the GAT-12, assault gunboats, Theta At-At barges, Theta shuttles, or 50+ ground vehicles.
    To play in a space superiority loadout in other words, an ISD could trade out shuttles and AT-ATs and have as many or more GAT-12 blastboats than a MC80 has fighters and shuttles combined. Then add the 72 TIEs.
    So no, the MC80 is noteably inferior and to rebuild an MC80 into a true warship would be twice as much as claimed and since as noted every MC80 is unique, then the cost would never decrease becuase economic efficiency is lost and the same mod would always have to be tweaked. Imagine the logistical nightmare trying to keep up with all of the different parts that had to be made for a single ship and then get those parts to the right ship as it constantly moves about the galaxy collecting more damage and breakdowns due to normal wear and tear?
    So no. The MC80 is just a bad warship in all categories and people are riding tinker bells dust on the MC80 being a "good" warship.

    Though I do not wish to go over things that have been covered, just a thought. The Rebel Alliance came by the larger ships it used any way it could. Blockade runners were the ideal ship. As has already been covered, the Rebels could not go toe to toe with the Imperial navy. The Rebellion needed to move quickly & hit hard. Never staying in one area long enough for effective resistance to gather.

    Honestly i wish the rebels where able to fet their hands a small fleet of venetors. As the xeins is just a better version of the ark 170 and the venetors where able to hold hundreds of those for rapid deployment as well. As maintenance the rebels could hav we used a fleet of venetors as a movile repair yard for their fighters. Or even manufacturer new ones as the carriers had more than ample space. Yes theh wouldn't be useful in a dog fight against a imperial star destroyer. But.. their asset as a mobile reapir and refuel yard for snub fighters and possibly even corvets and gunships. Would be great for the rebellion who struggled to maintain a solid base. Plus the venetors have great long range sensors and have more than aple room to hold and train not just new pilots but also ground forces as u could retrofit some of the larger hangers into a combat school. Or just use them to store extra suplies and cargo over the gr75

    It surprises me how cheap all the starships are. For a military vessel of that size on Earth, most of these would cost hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars (given the determined ~1:1 ratio of USD : credits)

    • @JasperKlijndijk
      @JasperKlijndijk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i think you should see starships as airplanes or armored vehicles nowadays

    • @r2020E
      @r2020E 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasperKlijndijk still it's strange though given that common goods scale 1:1 in price. The star wars market is weird. It's strange how starships would be priced so low and everything else so high. Are starships really that easy to produce and everything else that hard to produce in Star Wars? Otherwise the pricing makes no sense

    • @JasperKlijndijk
      @JasperKlijndijk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      well there are thousands of planet like there are thousands of towns in our world, so the market for space travel is huge wich makes specialisation and economie of scale easy for space ships. Just like cars or planes for us. You can buy an small airplane for 6000 dollars, its the fuel, storage and airport fees that make it to expensive for most, not the buying cost

When I have enough money, I would buy a VCX-100 freighter, Yt-1300fp freighter, hammerhead frigate and a Pelta class frigate in order to expand my business.
