The GR75, if someone turned a Gonk droid into a ship.
A lot of the logistics and supply staff served on those cause they didn't want to let everyone down by committing suicide, but still wanted to be taken out.
Not really, since Gonk droids may be slow moving and derpy, but they are also crazy tough, since Gonk droids are basically walking fusion reactors and have a heavily reinforced armored shell

@@imperialofficerremusblackw8452 There have been instances where a Gonk Droid's shell has been breached, causing the internal fusion reactor to explode with enough force to take out a large building. That said, Gonks are *REALLY* hard to damage, with one incident in one of the comics, where a nasty kid tricks a Gonk into walking off a ledge, it falls several hundred feet, smashing into the pavement in a crater, before just getting up and walking off

I always thought Corellia was more of a Detroit than a New Jersey.
Especially after imperial rule gutted its vehicle manufacturing industry
idk Corellia seems more like Boston to me. They have a distinct population (Corellians = Bostonians). They have a history involving transport (Corellia is a well known tradeport and their starships are distinct. Boston is a port city and has a long seafaring history). Also, both Corellia and Boston have a history of independence/rebellion. Corellia almost blatantly supported the Rebel Alliance and Boston (and Massachusetts in general) was pretty much where the American Revolution started.
What does that mean? Sorry, I’m from the UK. Is Detroit a rough town?

I can't help thinking that a ship like the Ghost would be amazing in combat if it was up-gunned. Small, agile, fast, tough, and now well armed, it would be a terror. Think the Defiant from DS9/First Contact.

Nah, those modified freighters are nothing more than glorified patrol boats. Up-gun them and you have either improvised gunships, or missile/torpedoe boats. It's no way near what the Defiant actually is: an assault frigate.

The Rebels should have taken a page from the CIS starship design playbook, and mounted external curved armor plates down the exposed neck of the Nebulon frigates, they could have even added some extra shielding externally on the neck, but under the armor, to extend the shields over the armor plates.
Imagine the size of the balls on someone bold enough to repeatedly steal a capital ship not just once or twice but multiple times

Zann consortium starships are much more modular than the rebel or imperial fleet
A underutilized resource by the Rebels is upgraded *Correllian freighters,* parts are a breeze, they're cheap to buy on the open market without many restrictions.
And easily modifiable into fast maneuverable ships that can outrun Imperial ships, smugglers need such performance and work out what needs to be done to give it that edge. Just copy that design and _give it guns… lots of guns._
The other option that the Rebels could use is automated freighters loaded with explosives that blend into regular shipping and then do a surprise kamikaze when near a Imperial ship or facility.
In fact being stopped by an ISD and brought into it's hold is the ultimate win for such a craft. The tactic was thought up by the great _Admiral Akbar,_ and in fact many droids invoked his name upon detonating their explosives…

How about using the 'forklift' mandibles of a YT-1300 like the Millenium Falcon as a makeshift bomber? Load a space-ready crate with explosives, pick it up with the mandibles, accelerate towards a Star Destroyer, then hit the release and turn around.
If memory serves me well, I seem to recall a model of heavy assault craft made during the Corellian rebellion where they basically mass produced a "Millenium Falcon" of sorts; I think it was called the Shrike or something like that.
I liked that battle a lot. I've always had a preference for smaller and more agile ships over the huge one which is why Frigates are my favorite warship type in most settings that have them including Star Wars. I hope if they ever make a canon Battle of Tanaab its much closer to the Legends Battle of Nar Shadda then the Legends version of the Battle of Tanaab (My feelings on the Legends Tanaab can be summed up as Home Alone in space set in Star Wars when it should have shown Lando in a leadership role that made him seem qualified to lead the rebel fighter wings at Endor)

Allen, I would love to see your take on what the Republic should have worked on after beating the Empire. Would they continue to use Star Destroyers? I think not. Too many personnel. Would you think they would mass produce cruisers and or a few capital ships? Would they use tech from both Empire and Rebellion to create all new ships? What do you think? Would love to see a series on this.

In Legends most Nebulon Bs had a hangar in the starboard side of the front section. You can see this in the X-Wing and TIE fighter sims (Oddly enough when X-Wing Alliance upgraded the model they didn't bother modeling the hangar but still put a fighter spawnpoint there.)

1. ships serve as gunships by being fitted with basic anti-fighter blaster cannons (rebels take fighter threats to their capitol ships much more serisuly than the Empire)
2. ships are always present because in the event the rebels need to beat a quick retreat they can refuel immediately
3. GR-7 Transports are in fact not as helpless as at first seemed and can in fact be fitted out to be semi-decent combat ships...

One thing that has always confused me about the Hammerhead Corvette since KOTOR was how it could play any kind of offensive role. It seems like it has too few armaments to put up any kind of fight. I would love a 10 flaws/strengths analysis of the Hammerhead.

Cr90 is my fave corvette and it even had a small internal hanger tho usely for land speeders big enough for a small fighter as we saw in episode 3 obiwan docking inside the cr90

Would love to see a video about Imperial and Rebel ground vehicles and doctrines! I mean, we know the basics of the Imperials with AT-AT's and AT-ST's and other variants, but you never hear much about the Rebel Ground forces. Not sure if it's because the Rebel Army were mostly infantry, or if it was because they lacked uniformity.
I'll find it funny if GEN ever does a vid on freighters pressed into wartime service, we'd be watching alllllllooooonnnnnng time. :) Shout out to the YV-929!!!

It baffles me why the Rebellion didn’t use more Gunboats, those things are insane.
They were content with their glorified patrol boats in the form of all those modified freighters and patrol crafts. They didn't have much need for ships that are more suitable for anti civilian, anti fighter roles, when their fighters were already powerful enough to achieve superiority, locally, during a raid.
Jersey has some very nice areas too just like Correlia

I always imagined the GR-75 transports were at the battle of Endor because they were like ammunition tenders shuttling supplies to the large Mon-Calamari cruisers so they could fight longer, like a cannon and limber (the GR-75 being the limber/caisson).
I think that they were at battle of Endor more as rescue ships. With they cargo loaders, they can "colect" damage ships.

Outside of a few major cities Legends Corellia was fairly pretty and Agrarian. But then again New Jersey also has a lot of farmland most people don't think of. (And we don't see anything other than Coronet in New Canon)

I'm dubious about the Calamari being build to withstand outside pressure to be of any help against inside pressure. Different construction principles. I doubt a submarine would fare too well in vacuum, essentially.
Actually looking at how we make ships for space travel it's not too diffrent the only main thing that is diffrent is the fact in a Submarine you can just build in layers with a lot of space in between the plates cause our ships don't stay at max depth for long unlike the moncal ships they'd need to be much closer together on the outer layers to help offset the pressure across the entire structure. Which for space travel this type of build would fair very well all you'd need to do is build the functions you'd need to live and travel through with engines, life support, weapons, shields etc.
A dramatic error to think this way, as inside pressure is laughable compared to water pressure outside. You're essentially saying submarines would be less sturdy than... planes 😄. Astronauts have repeatedly used _duct tape_ and regular epoxy to patch air leaks in real life space exploration. Even as recently as... last year in the ISS 😉.
@@lucofparis4819 Certainly, I'm no aerospace engineer. However, things tend to be build to withstand certain kind f forces, just easier and cheaper, no overengineering. Like, iirc, the Lunar Lander could not stand on it's own feet in Earth gravity.

Not sure where you got 300 meters from for the Hammerhead corvette. They were smaller than their old republic counterparts. The Sphyrna class was about 115 meters, making it very close in length to a Consular class from the Republic. It's smaller than the CR90 and CR70.
A shame you didn't cover the other albiet Legends ships of the Rebellion, such as the Assault Frigate Mk. I and II from TFUII and EaW.

8:35 Seems like that role has just been taken by the Arquitens light cruiser at this point. We've never seen an Imperial Nebulon B doing it's role, if it isn't an ISD it's always an Arquitens class.

I seem to remember that the Hammerhead was actually the Thranta class of ships used as you said during tha days of the old Republic. So Hammerhead was used as a nickname, but the class is called Thranta.

Have you played the indie game, Astrokill?? I LOVE astrokill for it's ships design. the game has thrust manual mode, so that you can play 3d asteroid, but more importantly, the ships are very well designed, very heavily armored, and great for this kind of analysis. (no astrokill isn't a star-wars replacement, it's just something else to bring up during an armored gunboat discussion)
man, I just love astrokill. The larger ships are less well thought out, but the fighters are very good. One example, is a ship that has a railgun. It has engines, a pilot, and a huge railgun. One or two hits with the railgun will destroy most fighters. (astrokill uses bullets and missiles, and the shields are different, they only work when you trigger them, and you can't shoot while they are on, but they are 100% effective, 100% impenetrable, for about a long few seconds)

If Scarf had a shield going around the planet an the gate was the only thing to get on or off world, care to explane how the gate worked and how the shield worked with it.
Got some crazy thoughts popping into mind that has me wondering.
1 - If there be shield generators on the world. Why not take them out to take down the shield going around the planet?
2 - If the Shield gate was destroyed would the shileds fully close then, keeping every one on the planet till the shields was dropped?
Now I could see something like the Shield gate being connected to other satilights in orbit around the planet, shields being connected to the gate an going from there to around the planet making the world only entry point the gate. I don't know if the topic of the gate or the shields of Scarf has been talked about or not, if not then this might make for a good topic video to work on maybe if you like?
I think Hammerhead Corvettes are a little smaller than 300m. Like in Rogue One, it didn't look like it was nearly a third of the length of the Imperial Star Destroyer it rammed, it actually looked more like an eighth the length, if not smaller. I think instead of 300m, they should just make them a little bigger than CR90s

I think they don't have many and most of the ships that they introduced (outside the movies) arent really fleshed out but they are still cool
@@orbaitv5991 I do wish that the other first order ships got more information but here's what I can tell.
First Order light cruiser: It's really a Corvette at around 130m long.
Nebulon K: Presumably similar to the Nebulon B it is just like the former ship, a frigates.
Maxima A class heavy cruiser: Based on it's appearence which is inspired by a real life aircraft carrier, it is most likely a starfighter carrier.
Imperial class star destroyer: Yes, the old star destroyers are still used in 34ABY. They propably take an occupation role as my kind has taken the role of frontline battleships from them. They still are secondary battleships and are most likely policing First Order territory.
Since you know my role I'll skip to my big brother the Mandator 4: It's high degree of specialization in the autocannons makes it reliant on escorting ships for it's safety. It is a special support ship that has heavy weaponry.
Supremacy class Mega star destroyer: I prefer the name Supremacy class over Mega class. Seeing the sheer number of functions that it has, the Supremacy class is undoubtedly the flagship of the First Order.
What is the footage of the star destroyer broadsiding the rebel ship from?
The fallacy of the idea that Mon Calamari ships were originally underwater structures is that underwater, the pressure it outside pushing in but in space the pressure is the internal atmosphere pushing out. The pressures work in the opposite direction so being structurally strong against external pressure doesn't make for strength from internal pressure.
The fallacy here is not realizing the pressure differential. A hull designed to withstand immense pressure greater than that exerted by an atmosphere is not going to come apart or burst when subjected to internal pressure equal to one atmosphere it simply won't. The structural bracing and bonds are designed to be sealed against any sort of pressure wether its internal or external so as long as pressure doesn't drastically exceed 1 atmosphere internally the hull will remain sound. Otherwise no warship would be able to function based on the previeously described pressure logic.

I thought of another use for the hammerhead destroyer. What if you used it for boarding Imperial Starships? If you had a few hammerheads ram an Imperial Star Destroyer, you can board the ship from multiple points. This would cause chaos inside the enemy ship.

This is just me saying, the hammerhead corvette does not look like 300 meters. More like 170 because, I looked up pictures and the hammerhead corvette is not as big as a Nebulon B Escort Frigate. More like a few meters bigger then the CR 90.

*The Rebel Alliance:* runs mostly gunboat-like ships, corvettes and frigates.
*The Star Destroyer:* rips little escort ships to shreds, runs as fast as a CR90 blockade runner, uses tractor beams powerful enough to pull corvettes.
The Rebel Alliance owes its victory _solely_ on plot armor and fighter quality.
Speed seems variable for some warship classes...
Acceleration though, also tends to vary, to reach those speeds. Turning circles, too, naturally.

I am surprised you did not mention the real reason for all the engines on the back. It was originally designed as the "pirate ship." It ended up looking too much like a Space 1999 Eagle. So they scaled up the size, and put a new cockpit on it.
I see Alan got his idea of New Jersey from the Turnpike.
