    Amazing to have English coverage of a JSPC race, great to see those wonderful XJR14's flexing their muscles...

    Thank you for the nostalgic footage.
    I was there watching this SUGO race.
    I remember that the Jaguar was fast, and that there was a Mazda787b with its colors reversed.

    Remember seeing Teo Fabi Chuck the XJR-14 through bridge corner at Silverstone in 91. I don’t think I have ever seen a car handle that corner as fast it did. It was breathtaking! My all time favourite race car!

      I did see some of these old cars at various years at Le Mans, but unfortunately I wasn't attending, when they held a race with almost all the legendary ones in 2013.
      Otherwise been there almost every year from 1998 to 2011..
      Le Mans is really a must for any car lover. Would love to see races at Sebring or Laguna Seca, Interlagos, Bathurst and Fuji

      I taped it back in 1991 and converted to DVD in recent years. It was time it had an outing on TH-cam! Only wish I'd videoed the other JSPC along with IMSA highlights Screensport showed at the time. 👍🏁 There's Screensport highlights of a FUJI round featuring XJR11's run by Suntec on TH-cam somewhere.

      Yes it's Rob Widdows from the podcasts 👍 New 1991 Group C rules required using 3.5 non turbo engines. Ford owned Jaguar at the time, so made sense to use a Ford HB V8 F1 engine badged as a Jag! 👍🏁

    Saw the jags that year at Silverstone and they appeared during practice at Le Mans, fabulous car, but big buck's Peugeot ruled the roost in 92 and 93.
    Had a fabulous 12 days at Le mans this year, my 35th visit, fantadtic battles in HyperCar, LMP 2 and gt3.

    Had the 787B not exist, I think the XJR-14 would of been hailed as one of the all-time great sports prototypes of the time, and would win Le Mans in 1991.

    • @marks7197
      @marks7197 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The XJR14 was the greatest of the 3.5 WSC cars without question. The Mazda took nothing from it as this Jag was only entered at Le Mans in '91 in order to fulfil a box ticking exercise, they only ever intended running the Group C V12 car in the race (as did Mercedes). The Jags would have been 1,2 and 3 at Le Mans if the FIA had applied their own rule correctly regarding older cars. The Mazda had no weight penalty applied to it unlike the Jags and Mercs which were both much faster. It was handed to the Mazda on a plate.

      @@grimm6jack The Jag was comfortably quicker than the Peugeot in early 1991 and held off the 905b for the title and Jaguar chose not to develop the car further given the way the series was heading. No doubt for me which was the most significant WSC 3.5 car.

    • @grimm6jack
      @grimm6jack ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marks7197 If it didn't develop, that's their problem. I'm talking about cars at their PEAK.
      The 1992 and 1993 Peugeot 905B Evo (not the same as the one in 1991) is the best of the 3.5l Group C cars, and is then followed by the Toyota TS010.
      But the Jaguar is still a legendary, beautiful and competitive machine nonetheless.

    • @marks7197
      @marks7197 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@grimm6jackAt its peak the XJR14 was better than its competitors by a good margin. Derek Warwick who won Le Mans in the 905b named the XJR14 as the best sportscar he drove, that'll do for me over your opinion.
