Ramin Karimloo is an amazing talent. He's also ripped, tattooed up his left arm, rides a Harley, can't read music and has no formal musical training. But one of the best voices in musical theatre ever. At a young age, he set his sights on a singing career and never looked back.
Honestly, I don't believe Ramin hasn't been trained. I know he said that. He may not have been trained early in his career, but that doesn't mean it's the same now. In fact, he definitely is trained, his voice is clearly technical and the vocal cords are well maintained. And if you've seen his rehearsal videos, he can definitely read music.
The Phantom of the Opera has been my absolute favorite play ever. This version with Sierra Boggess and Ramin Karimloo is the BEST combo I have ever heard, in my opinion. Glad you enjoyed it!
And its all thanks to Karimloo. Sierra was actually sick during this performance. If you got a keen ear you can easily hear that. She still nailed her part though, but Ramin took the stage and attention
Phantom was the first musical I was ever introduced to. I was a young teenager, and ended up spending a few years listening to musicals 90% of the time😉
I LOVE this cast! Ramin Karimloo is the best Phantom I've ever seen; his physical attributes as the Phantom are unbelievable. Watch them do "Point of No Return". It's so intense!
My favorite Phantom and Christine. Ramin and Sierra are the bomb! I’ve seen this probably 20 times. The only version that made me cry every time at the end.
Seeing Phantom over 20 years ago still remains the most memorable musical theatre experience I’ve ever had. It still gives me chills whenever I hear it.
So fucking good!! Ramins voice gives me chills. Him and Sierra are perfection.Past The Point of No Return is my favorite number from the play. And this 25th anniversary edition is the absolute best..
Ahhhh....this makes me so happy! When you asked us on stream what our favorite musicals were, I was yelling "Phantom of the Opera!".....in my head lol i didn't put in chat. I love every version of this production, every score, every soundtrack! Thank you!!
I am a 66 year old vocalist who has been singing rock and blues for over 50 years now and I love opera so much. I can't sing it, but love it. The skill levels are simply ridiculous.
I LOVE Phantom of the Opera! I am so happy you did a reaction to this! The play is amazing and all the songs have been the soundtrack of my childhood. I love ur channel, u keep doing great stuff. U r simply amazing, thank you.
I think Phantom is my ultimate favourite musical, and these two are my ultimate favourite Phantom + Christine!! Even though I grew up with the original soundtrack, there's just something about Ramin x Sierra that pulls on my heartstrings even more than I thought possible
Phantom was the first Broadway play I ever listened to, and then saw in Atlanta when I was in college. I have sung two songs from it, one of them placing me in the top 10 of the Allstate's Got Talent show when I used to work for Allstate. It remains my #1 favorite Broadway musical. So glad you are enjoying it!
Phantom is just epic. Both my parents were actors and singers so I grew up on all the musicals, operas, classics. Phantom and Les Mis (and hey a few Gilbert and Sullivan too) are my all time favs. And Sierra and Ramin are this generation's version of Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford. But honestly I prefer the less operatic sound that both Sierra and Ramin do over Sarah's. It brings it to a new generation and you can FEEL the intention. Powerful music, story, lyrics, vocals, sets, costumes. It just has it all.
Andrew Lloyd Webber isn’t shy about putting some rock/metal in his pieces. Ramin is the best Phantom and probably one of the best singers I’ve ever heard. He’s so in love but he’s too broken.
I saw the performance on the stage in the late 90s and was so close the Phantom's spit could hit us. LOL the high notes Christine sings in the boat, when you are five feet away from her were INSANE. This, Madam Butterfly and Cats are still my favorite in person.
I was actually first introduced to phantom of the opera by the movie and I was blown away…and then I listened to royal albert hall and I probualy had a heart attack on how good ramins voice was compared to Gerard’s, Gerard was good but Ramin blew it away
It makes sense that Phantom sounds kinda like metal, cuz the musical was written in the 80s and heavily inspired by the pop sound of that decade. You end up with this interesting mix of goth/synth music, mainstream 80s metal, 70s prog rock, and musical theater.
Phantom holds a special place in my heart and always will. I agree with earlier statements though, Michael Crawford was amazing as Phantom, and the “original” Music of the Night still gives me chills. Totally unrelated I stumbled across this one day and thought you just had to know about it, it’s Thunderstruck as you’ve never heard before th-cam.com/video/564u39PJfUI/w-d-xo.html
I would say that the 25th anniversary performance is the definitive Phantom performance so good choice. Ramin Karimloo ad Serria Bogges have so much chemistry together they were nearly sucking the soul out of each other and people were beginning to think they were couple in real life.
I saw the West End production some years ago. You should check out Music of the Nigth by Michael Crawford, he was the first Phantom, played the role for two and a half years, in the West Side and Broadway. Still the best Phantom for me, you can feel his anger but also his pain in every note. Goosebumps every time.
Dear metal vocalist. I saw this opera on the stage in my favorite musical. This is the stage where Japan's "gekidan SHIKI" went. And when I saw your reaction, I was moved. Thank you. However, I was so impressed that I was surprised to see the video of Tommy johanson who covered this song in a video about a year ago, so I would like to request that metal vocalist also watch it. It's a vocal and performance that shakes the ROCK soul very much! Thank you for your reaction🙏
That bassline nearly landed Andrew Lloyd Webber in court. It was considered a copy of Pink Floyd's bass line from Echoes. Nick Pitera does a One Man version where he sings the 3 main vocals in an 8 minute video. It is astonishing to hear.
I love The Phantom of the Opera. The 2005 movie with Gerard Butler honestly blew me away. The music gave me chills, love the electric guitars, and the man can actually sing!
YES, That is where I found Phantom...All the songs are "similar" and I really love it. Even got a CD of the movie to play in my car...LOVE the music...enjoy John!!
I love his Phantom as well. I've had the privilege of seeing Phantom of the Opera live and it's definitely a very magical, more sensitive experience. What I love about Gerard Butler's version of the Phantom is he's VERY good at portraying the Phantom's attractiveness as a character while also portraying how much of a dangerous force he is. He's the scariest Phantom that I've seen and I love it. Edit: My favorite LIVE phantom has to be Ramin Karimloo. There's not other like him, I may be a bit biased though since he played Gleb in Anastasia the Musical
I watched (and loved) Phantom at her Majesty’s theatre, now after the coronation his Majesty’s theatre, over 20 years ago. Still remember the shock of the falling chandelier!! An absolutely amazing experience. Please do check out Michael Crawford…outstanding!
I was just in London for 3 months and saw every musical that's on right now and Phantom just completely floored me. Just amazing🥰 (Wicked was a close 2nd though😊)
This is for so far,the best version of The Phantom of the Opera,Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess are an stunning and outstanding singers, but if you loved it musically, you would alucinate with LOVE NEVER DIES,where the Phantom sings THE BEAUTY UNDERNEATH,recomends you the Australian Version
Great reaction. One of the best musicals made. Andrew Lloyd Webber made some good ones. "Love Never Dies" is the sequel to "The Phantom of the Opera." Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess originated the Phantom And Christine on that one. They did that before the 25th Annaversary of "The Phantom of the Opera." I don't think it's as good, but it has some good songs.
The original 1925 movie is bad ass!!! Even though it's silent, it's so metal. Also Crawford and Andrew Lloyd Webber love and studied that version of the movie.
I think you absolutely need to watch/listen to “The Beauty Underneath”, from ALW’s Phantom sequel production, “Love Never Dies”! It Fuc… Damned well ROCKS! (Visually, as well as musically!) I’m sure it is available on TH-cam. (Try to find the Ben Lewis/Australian version. PHANTOM-tastic! 😉
Have u checked out Les Miserable? It is even bigger and more spectacular. Set in Paris during the revolution. Big songs, big feelings, big everything:)
Might I suggest....Phantom of the Opera Liv Moon......features Takayoshi Ohmura from BABYMETAL Kami Band, playing and singing along with Liv Moon who is just astounding
You should react to the original by Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford which I think is the best version. Michael Crawford sounded angry and in pain in his performance which is what this character would feel and Sarah Brightman has the best voice.
ALW has other rock operas too. One of my favorites is Evita -- latin rock opera -- the music is amazing. But it's hard to find the perfect version. The original is pretty good. The Madonna movie is also pretty good, but not the best.
I prefer Sarah Brightman and Chris Thompson's version from her concert in Vienna. Of course, she starred in the original play because her husband Andrew Lloyd Weber wrote it for her. th-cam.com/video/PTg5AUq7nXQ/w-d-xo.html In that same concert, she sang this duet with Alessandro Safina. I had never heard him before, but when he came in for his part of the duet, I actually lost my breath. Tahk a look at them. th-cam.com/video/9OZ9YusSvds/w-d-xo.html
I have loved the phantom of the opera since I was a child but my one gripe has always been the phantom should have won her love and I think a redemption for him would have been a better ending but I still love the original one. :') ❤
My favourite phantom is John Owen Jones, although Ramin is awesome too. Pls upload here also a reaction to the Point of no return, it's imo the most intense piece in the POTO.
I've seen several of your reactions and I am impressed by the range of genres and song s that you review. All are great and speak to curiosity of your mind and the breadth of your skills. Anyway, nice job! If you get a moment, take a look at Lindsey Stirling's version. She arranged it while still in high school and released the video in 2012. It rocks and she's having such a good time! th-cam.com/video/TCL94-MsxYc/w-d-xo.html
I would like to recommend a simply stunning song - something VERY different that what you have been reviewing. This is a beautiful, old iconic song brought to life by a gorgeous, 16 year old lady, Lucy Thomas, with a voice beyond compare. Yes, she is THAT GOOD. It is difficult to know which is more beautiful - the song, her voice, or herself. This is what it is like in heaven watching an angel sing. No tattoos, no sleaze, just pure talent. You MUST listen to this song, even if you decide not to do a review of it. The more you listen to her the more you will want to listen to her. However, preferably do a review of it: th-cam.com/video/-yI3bOKIZKk/w-d-xo.html Or, if you want here are some other outstanding options: th-cam.com/video/x1etaSAh0nE/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/dWO1HbkBUR8/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/ETrbRH4F7nE/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/FK4scBScMg0/w-d-xo.html
There are a lot of very harsh critics against Love Never Dies. But i have loved Phantom from day 1. The story is intimately personal to me in ways i won't discuss publicly. It's enough for me to say i know the character of the Phantom intimately ( many of his characteristics and attributes are things I share - both good and bad- my life has not been easy in several of the ways his was not) and the love for a woman who belongs to someone else now but who changed my life for the better in the brief time we were together ( though at my worst ). My love for this story, and BOTH of these musicals goes well beyond that of merely great musicals. So, I should be the harshest critic. But, I LOVED "Love Never Dies". It is exactly what the story should have been both historically and in its particular immediate setting. Too many people want a sequel that's basically the same thing as the original. That's sad, because what's the point of that?! The point of a sequel is to tell the next chapter. Things change. Circumstances force change. In that light the Phantom winding up where he did in the sequel makes complete sense. But more than that, he's back in an armosphere he knew as an abused child. But this time he's in control. That's poetic and an excellent twist in his story. It's a twisted irony that is genius. Andrew Lloyd Webber's music for the sequel is every bit as good as the original and there are several heart-rending songs that are stunning and strike exactly the right chords both in the story and in the heart. The two stories are not disparate. They tell one story and it ends exactly as it should have. I respect people's right to disagree, to be sure. But i think too many people just want the same thing retold and my view is that's lazy storytelling. The genius of ALW and the sequel is that he uses musical cues in it from the original show that mirror moments in the new story or which strike parallel story developments and that music connects the two stories together through themes in a new context. Its brilliant!!! No one else does this! The sequel hits all the same moments of the first but in a new story, so in one sense the critics are getting the same structure of the story as they do in the first, they are parallel stories, but with new events and new consequences. I wonder how many of the naysayers recognize that. I understand the difference between the two shows can be jarring. But what Erik and Christine and Raoul went through was jarring. Such tragedy in people's lives never leaves one the same. We all change. So these characters should change a bit too. They are still our beloved characters but a decade older, sadder, wiser, and for quite a few of them, more desperate. I respectfully yet wholly disagree with the critics who hate the sequel. As i've said, this story is very deeply personal to me in ways too intimate to discuss and i found the redemption, the unconditional love, and the forgiveness which this story portrays to be compelling, moving, and deeply satisfying. And the music... Stunning! Several of the songs are forever burned into my mind and heart in both pain and healing, loss and love, sorrow and hope. I hope you will enjoy the sequel too. Before you watch the sequel react to a song I think you will totally enjoy "The Beauty Underneath" - it rocks. It takes place in the story as a parallel event to this song and scene you reacted to. It's the same moment but in a new story with a different character and twist. I think you'll be impressed. This is one example of the parallels in the story that I think too many critics of the show failed to recognize.
This is soooo interesting! I have seen this opera/musical several times over a couple of decades here in Australia and the vocals I heard here are WAAAYYYY better ! These vocals are really weak comparatively. I'm actually disappointed, I expected much, much more from 'Broadway' Legit ugh!
I'm sorry. I can never get passed 2 minutes into this video, no matter how many times, or how hard I try. I know it's a matter of taste, but in my opinion, once you've heard Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in these roles.....nothing else comes close!!!!
Ramin Karimloo is an amazing talent. He's also ripped, tattooed up his left arm, rides a Harley, can't read music and has no formal musical training. But one of the best voices in musical theatre ever. At a young age, he set his sights on a singing career and never looked back.
no formal musical training is crazy!!

This is one example of the parallels in the story that I think too many critics of the show failed to recognize.
there is no guitar in this entire orchestra
This is soooo interesting! I have seen this opera/musical several times over a couple of decades here in Australia and the vocals I heard here are WAAAYYYY better ! These vocals are really weak comparatively. I'm actually disappointed, I expected much, much more from 'Broadway' Legit ugh!
Bruh this isn't metal lmao its a rock opera
I'm sorry. I can never get passed 2 minutes into this video, no matter how many times, or how hard I try. I know it's a matter of taste, but in my opinion, once you've heard Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in these roles.....nothing else comes close!!!!
Sierra boggess is da shiz. Best voice in a long time.
