Check my deals site for current gaming laptop sales: gaminglaptop.deals What did you think of my rankings, what would you have done differently? 🤔
54:38 I've got an update on this with the MSI GF63. MSI advised me that this can happen if the rear corner screw is not in. After checking my laptop, the screw was in and it appeared to be all the way, however it was about one full 360 degree rotation from being tight. After tightening the screw, this no longer happens. All my other thoughts are unchanged and I don't think this changes my ranking of it, best case we could bump it up to a D.

Perfect list. The Helios 300 was the biggest surprise after 2021; amazing cooling and power package. Couldn't resist buying one and I am absolutely amazed at how much they packed into it. i7-12700 + 3060 for only $999 is pretty incredible, assuming you can cool it and power it. The Helios is able to do this, and outpaces a lot of i9's and 3070 setups because of it. It really taught me a lot about what to look for in a laptop. You can buy the best parts, but if you can't cool/power them, there's no point. I had no idea about power limits until I watched this channel. Thank you - I would've bought a C-tier laptop or worse, bought a $2500 laptop to remove doubt. Thanks, Jarrod. The best list we'll see, I'm sure.

    Hi, Jarrod!
Your laptop site looks great! When you and/or your dev gets a chance, I really believe "sorting" by "percentage discount" and/or "Jarrod's Ranking" would be net positives to the site. They are really easy to implement too with your footable and bootstrap setup(the layout of your current site).
It's also REALLY easy to make these features expandable. Meaning users could initially experience a nice and succinct table, abut then drill down to what they care about.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  ปีที่แล้ว +40

Thanks, we're using a Wordpress plugin which definitely has some limitations with how we can sort. I don't think we could do that without putting the % difference in its own column and making it a bit messier. Basically we have noob tier dev skills and are not intending on doing anything custom at all, if the wp ninja tables can't do it, basically we're out.
Update: actually my partner who manages the site said it might be possible to do with the drop down sorting menu, we'll check it out. That said, is sort by % even important? Not sure how useful it is just to see biggest deals if it's not even a model you might not actually care about at all.

    Great video Jarrod!
One thing I would suggest you to take a closer look is display output options/generations.
Considering the quite strong mid-range lineup and the fact that many would use their laptops connected to an external display, there are serious limitations in the mid-range (or even upper-mid-range)
For example, I think it's a totally realistic scenario that you want to connect your 1440p HDR 144Hz monitor to your new gaming laptop with a 3060 or 3070, but you can not do that with a Displayport 1.2 or HDMI 2.0b connection.
That's the exact reason why I did not buy the TUF A15 last week, although I could get it on a great deal, but I went with the Legion 5 instead, with HDMI 2.1, Displayport1.4
    Keep up the good work!

I've been really, REALLY considering the Asus Flow X16. The fact that it's a 165hz QHD gaming laptop while also being a 2-in-1 with MPP 2.0 pen support means it can run double duty as a powerful gaming machine AND a heavy duty drawing and 3D art tablet, which is what I've been wanting for so many years it's insane. I always wanted the Concept D 7 Ezel since it has Wacom EMR + RTX 2080/3080, but those $3000+ prices are insane. Best Buy occasionally has the 3060 version of the X16 on sale for $1800, or $1600 open box, which is way more palletable.

I noticed that laptop has a perfect rival for it which is the MacBook pro 16 fully specked out. The pricing is identical to one another for sure though the MacBook pro is slightly more expensive. In performance they're practically the same thing, and both use the same technology of mini led both hitting max cap of 1100 nits. With the flow x16 also having industrial look to it as well allowing for me to not stand out in public, it truly feels like I just got the windows version of the MacBook pro 16 fully specked out with added benefits that apple doesn't have. A word of caution about Legion laptops:
Last year I bought a Legion 5 on Jarrod's recommendation, and it was definitely S tier until the warranty expired. Shortly after that it started struggling really really badly with thermals, and now its a shadow of its former self. It's not even really possible to repaste these things as they use a proprietary paste, and most people don't get positive results from repasting. I've cleaned it, undervolted it, repasted it with the $50+/gram special paste, nothing fixes it. This is a pretty common issues with Legion laptops I've come to find out (google Legion thermal issues), and its practically bricked now. It went from 60fps+ on nice settings in CP2077 to 89-91c temps playing indie side scrollers and throttles to

I also bought an older Legion Y740 at this channel's recommendation. It similarly to your case lasted me only about a year and a few months, so after the warranty had expired. Horrible experience overall, I was a student and this was to be my new all around laptop coming from another aging gaming laptop which is still running fine by the way, just weak battery and aging hardware made it a good time to upgrade.
During my time owning it, multiple things started to fail. First the light bars in the back vents went out then the trackpad cover started to peel off. Sent it in for warranty once because games were crashing on startup, they kept it for 2 FRICKIN MONTHS and when I finally got it back, notes said they had to replace the whole main board lol

I'm currently using an MSI GE66 11UH which is similar to the GE67 reviewed here sans OLED panel (still 240Hz 1440p and very good panel).
I'm generally happy with it but the lack of G-Sync/Variable Refresh is pretty noticeable in games that don't have solid frametimes.
Seeing Lenovo consistently top the charts for like 3 years now means I'll definitely be looking to buy a Legion 5 Pro or Legion 7 next year, especially since they all have G-Sync panels.
I tried the Asus Zephyrus G15 but the keyboard is horrifyingly bad. It feels okay but the actuation is very wonky and misses a lot of keypresses unless you type with a lot of force and hit keys dead on the center. Honestly I feel like the g14 deserved the S tier. It’s hard to pack so much into a thin and light laptop and STILL have a very good battery life rating. I’ve had it for a while after replacing my 2020 gs 66 stealth and let me tell you this laptop packs way more from battery to power which is pretty sweet. One thing is yeah it sucks they moved into all amd and it does get hot at times when gaming but I rather it let the user cap their laptops to whatever they want unlike the Alienware and razer 14 in where they bottleneck you off the start. Might be a little biased but honestly I had the first g14 in 2020 when they released and returned it since it wasn’t what I expected but now after 2 years they improved it so much. Really think it could of reached s tier since for what it is really is a great product for its price!
Wanted to add the only real complaint is that they should of stuck with nvidia graphics. Amd is good and all but nvidia definitely takes the cake on best mobile gpu rn. But still really don’t think that should be enough to bump it down since the amd gpu still runs games very well!

TBH stock aero 16 is piece of crap, but 2023 GCC Sofware fixes almost all of the bugs, making this laptop good (or even superb) performer compared to price. And btw you can flash 115-130W TGP vbios from clevo and get much better perf from 3070ti, albeit at a higher temps internally.
For me personally, when taking price into consideration it's a steal (literally you could buy 3060 max for the same price - and with 1TB and 16Gigs of ram)

Speaking of mice RGB....I can understand saving battery/power especially on wireless mice but why can't the damn things run the light in reverse, ie, light off by default then after a while without activity, so long as the wireless mouse is on/computer that wired mouse is hooked up to is on, it switches on the light for 5mins at which point it either switches off again (hey if I'm gone that long...) or switches off because there's an input.

I must disagree about a few placements. Flow X16 certainly is worthy of A or higher, cause it's very mobile, has great screen and still has a webcam, and it comes with expandability a tier above rest of Zephyrus line-up. Asus Z13 could get there as well, but it's not as good on its own, so B is OK. Duo 16 moves the keyboard lower and that makes laptop use on the go wrist aching more so I'd keep it B or C. Now the Scar models I'd put lower in both cases respectively. Why? Cause they're laptops with worse port situation and no webcam. Had Asus used the keystone thingy for something truly useful, it would have made more sense, but alas it's crap... so the chassis is plasticky, and underutilised. The Zephyrus G14 actually is great as a small device on its own, with great battery and performance and screen as well, it should end at S even. G15 seems to be eclipsed by M16, as it comes with better WiFi in most markets compared to Mediatek's one in AMD laptops, so I'd keep those close but with M16 also offering screen benefits I'd warrant pushing it higher, certainly above TUF A15 or the Scars...

    • @StefanUrkel
      @StefanUrkel ปีที่แล้ว

M16 is a good laptop, better aspect ratio, more powerful cpu. it will run hotter and louder due to the slimmer design than some other gaming laptops, and will throttle a bit. i didn't like the rubbery coating they use. it can be a dust magnet and make it hard to clean. it could also wear off over time. consider getting a skin kit for it to avoid most of the downside that comes with that.

Next year I think it would be awesome to do a different tier list. Instead of S to F ranking have the tiers be how much I would pay for this laptop.
Especially around the holiday season it would be awesome to have a full recap like this so that when sales pop we have a point of reference. Like the Helios 300 being somewhere in the $1200 rank but on sale for $1000 is a steal. Or the Nitro 5 which maybe a lower rank but if you put it in the $900 tier and it went on sale for $750 on Black Friday again that would be steal even if it’s a C tier laptop.

For people asking for a Helios 300 vs Legion 5i Pro review, I’ll save you the time: Legion is better. Just watched Jarrod’s 2022 Helios 300 review. The Legion has a better keyboard, trackpad, and ports. Also a brighter and faster screen, and quieter fans. Legion you can easily add any M.2 drives you want but the Helios is weirdly designed and looks like it’ll only accept the shorter M.2 drives - not good at all. And similar performance across all tests. Also the Helios has the ugly lid logo, RGB, the big chin, and gap where the hinge connects to the body. Pretty ugly IMO. So yeah. Legion 5i Pro all the way.

The stuff you listed is why I'd lean towards the Legion 5i Pro myself. However, I'll give props to Acer where it is due because clearly all the negative feedback got them to finally up their game. It's a step in the right direction if they can keep it up. By next year I really hope they completely redesign the Helios chassis and make it a little more stealthy and better looking and improve the thermals further without having to make it sound like it'll take flight during turbo mode.
This year I bought two gaming laptops. A Nitro 5 w/RTX 3060 and 10300h and a Legion 5i w/RTX 3060 and 12700H. I would have just kept using my Nitro 5 but I ran into so many issues with the Nitro 5, from bad thermals to my screen completely glitching out of nowhere and not being able to use the 144hz mode anymore. I'm very wary about buying Acer products again and if anybody asks I'd tell them to get ASUS or Lenovo before an Acer, but I want them to get better because I want the gaming laptop market to get better.

@BayuF Every laptop manufacturer has its duds, but in my experience ASUS have been the most reliable and I've had ASUS laptops for years. I still have my ASUS TUF from 2019 with GTX 1650/3550H and it's still more reliable than my Nitro 5.
Bluescreen issues are one thing, and I had plenty of BSOD issues with the Nitro 5 as well, but the worst thing is that my Nitro 5 still doesn't work right in 144hz. It also stopped working in 60hz mode for a bit so I had to use the laptop with my TV for a while until it miraculously fixed itself.
But I'm happy with the 5i. It's the nicest laptop I've ever owned and I wanna use it as my main laptop for a good while. I'd pick the 5i Pro just on the basis of how good my 5i is.

Jarrod hello I want to ask you a question. If you had to choose between legion 5 2021 and tuf a 15 2022, which one would you choose. I'll buy a new laptop and I can't decide it yet.

im really interested on getting asus rog zephyrus g14/15/m16 line, but heard about the thermal heat issues causing the decrease performance, damage to the other components, heat distribution to the keyboard that could grill fingers, and also the bad fan exhaust that can affect the lower display discoloration.
is it really that bad? what do you think?

Unfortunately, I don't get them for long periods of time to test it all out, but I haven't heard of widespread issues with discoloration.

It is great that you compile such chart. It helped me last year in making a decision to buy Lenovo Legion 7 (2021 AMD version).

Hi! I'm really upon buying it, but I see that there are a lot of problems (the screen collapses because of weak joints to the rest of the body, blue screens, horrible drivers). Can you help? What sort of problems did you have and are you happy overall with the laptop?
