It never ceases to amaze me how Eva could take any song and effortlessly make it her own. Such a tragic loss of life and talent. She changed the world for the better then left it far too soon. I can't help feeling a little twinge of sadness whenever I listen to her music. It's such a shame she never lived to enjoy the success and recognition her golden voice so deserved. I was in North Dakota in 2001,a primary care physician alone so ebbed down when I heard her sing Fields of Gold.I searched for her story, accumulated all her cds I could get enough. Somehow Eva transcended everything .She makes every cells in my body jumped for joy and yet I feel like Eva is still with us. what a treasure to the world. Thanks Eva.

Was a fan of Karen Carpenter but I felt there was a certain similarities in her songs .However Eva Cassidy had the ability to adapt her voice to particular songs .This is beautiful and she is the instrument. Karen Carpenter's version of "A Song For You" was a classic.

Sometimes you hear voices that are so pure and beautiful that you know they are angels. For me, two of those are Anita Carter and Eva Cassidy. My heart soars when I hear them singing.
I just recently listened to Adam Levine covering Prince's Purple rain and Usher covering Marvin's What's Going On. In both cases, as much as I respected and loved Adam and Usher, their efforts in these attempts didn't even come close to the originals, imo. I felt these were two perfect examples of two iconic songs that, regardless of the immense talent of the artists trying to cover them, simply could not be satisfactorily covered by ANYONE. They were songs that were utterly Prince and Marvin. Period.I believe that Eva's rendition here is one of those very, very rare instances where a cover outshines the original version of a truly iconic song. Well said Kelhawk1, I'm not sure how I stumbled upon Eva but when I heard her voice it stopped me in my tracks! I let out a loud yelp and an expletive that I won't repeat here. Eva touches me so I find myself crying when I hear some of her music it's not the song but simply, it's just Eva.

Sometimes you hear voices that are so pure and beautiful that you know they are angels. For me, two of those are Anita Carter and Eva Cassidy. My heart soars when I hear them singing.
I just recently listened to Adam Levine covering Prince's Purple rain and Usher covering Marvin's What's Going On. In both cases, as much as I respected and loved Adam and Usher, their efforts in these attempts didn't even come close to the originals, imo. I felt these were two perfect examples of two iconic songs that, regardless of the immense talent of the artists trying to cover them, simply could not be satisfactorily covered by ANYONE. They were songs that were utterly Prince and Marvin. Period.I believe that Eva's rendition here is one of those very, very rare instances where a cover outshines the original version of a truly iconic song. In fact, in not only outshines it, it blows completely away. I really can't think of another cover- of an iconic song- that's even in this league. Absolutely beautiful. I believed every word...

Eva Cassidy: Great singer that she is with a beautiful/clear and soothing voice. Her pretty voice is never dimmed or overcast by the band instruments. Always been loving her songs sung with so much passion and will not stop loving and listening to her!!!! She is such a singing sensation to me.

Eva never wanted fame and it wasn’t till her death did a DJ from England hear her songs and took them back to England and her songs were No 1 in a month. Sad she was a beautiful woman with a heaven sent voice. R I P Eva
Eva could have skated by on her God given angelic voice, or even her guitar playing - but she sang every song from the depths of her soul, interpreting phrases to give each song, line, word a new, often deeper meaning.

Well said Kelhawk1, I'm not sure how I stumbled upon Eva but when I heard her voice it stopped me in my tracks! I let out a loud yelp and an expletive that I won't repeat here. Eva touches me so I find myself crying when I hear some of her music it's not the song but simply, it's just Eva.
Eva should be in the Hall of Fame where she is the ONLY member. She's in a class all by herself. Eva Cassidy, I was not aware of you when you were alive... and I will regret that for the rest of my life.

On the anniversary of John Lennon being killed, MTV listed its choice of the five best covers of his song “Imagine.” Eva Cassidy's version was listed, with this comment, “Released six years after her death (2002), this recording showcases Cassidy’s jaw-dropping voice above all else, which is why it’s such a great version of the song. Tender and heartbreakingly simple, it sadly remains - like most of her work - vastly overlooked.”
Cassidy's version of "Imagine" was recorded at Chris Biondo's studio along with ten or twelve other songs as a demo tape to be pitched to local booking agents.
