I Found Eva far too Late . I remember working on a Carnival 🎡 in Essex Md. Late Spring 1980, I’m from Niagara Falls all my life but my job was on strike 🪧 at Niagara University I was a dorm janitor (by Summer we lost the strike) I gave a friend’s girlfriend a ride to Fairfax Va so she could work with her Boyfriend. Worked with an independent kiddy ride owner . I had a 1965 Ford Econoline Window Van 🚐 that was slightly sectioned 6” roof was 6” lower than a stock van by curing body not windows 🪟 to lower the total body height. Well I was in driving range to have seen her live bummer that was around my 25th Birthday and I met Goraldo Rivira of 20/20 but he wouldn’t talk to me because I ran a kiddy ride. Oh well his loss. I tried to turn him on to a different carnival 🎡 in NY State extremely bad rides . That show in Essex Md was a top notch show all the rides were up & up in my eyes 👀 they had 3 Full trailers of spare new replacement parts where that NY Show couldn’t afford to keep their rides safe
I am one of the many who fell in love with Eva, just a lovely gentle person with the voice of an angel. The world still mourns for this beautiful soul.
Admittedly there are many voices that could benefit by being covered in an orchestra. Alas, Eva is not one. Her voice IS the orchestra. Not taking anything away from the arrangement mind you. It's just hard to improve on perfection.
I listen to her everyday many times a day ever since I found her on TH-cam. Her golden voice and her playing the guitar. Have you listen to her ‘Songbird and Autumn Leaves.? Beautiful golden voice.! From California USA 🇺🇸, I am 🇵🇭Filipino and an American 🇺🇸., julia a. Today’s date is May 6, 2021. 🐝🐝🐝🦋🌈 Seabee can do!
Agreed. When the orchestra is in the lower register it sounded good . . . like a nice cushion. But the sustained string on the root in the upper register, damn it Luca . . . that smothered. And it added tension you do not want in this song. She's already creating all the tension that's needed.
Mr. Sumner must have surely smiled, upon hearing one of his most treasured masterpieces interpreted so beautifully. I have truly known no higher honor, than living out this life as a musician, especially feeling as I do after hearing something so utterly breathtaking. In a world gone mad, music such as this is my eternal shelter from the storm. A very warm and sincere Thank You to Sting, Eva and Luca.
I heard somewhere that Sting doesn't usually care for other people doing his songs, but he gave his blessing to Eva doing Fields of Gold because it was so amazing.
A thousand likes to this sentiment. I also am a working musician and bringing some light into this world is my contribution, no matter how small. Eva is a true blessing in every way ❤
Yes, Eva has a Golden voice. Hers stands by itself, and is so beloved by many. Just her choosing this masterpiece of song-writing 'tune' by Sting tells a lot by itself. And no one has to compare here cover versus the master's original. Me, I want all of them. And will listen to BOTH versions, going forward. Godsend.
I like this version the best. The orchestra adds another dimension of depth and just gives me goosebumps. What a beautiful version. Too bad it's not on the new 2023 CD with the London Symphony.
Hi! Thanks for you kind words about my arrangement. If the London Symphony will ask for this arrangement I definitely give them! Eva with this strings behind her voice will be awesome!
Oh that's too bad. I've been listening to each song as it gets released, and this is one of my favorites of hers. Even Sting said she did it better. I've been trying to find the best one to share, because of course there wasn't much videography done of her back then.
Thank you for your time and effort in adding an electronic orchestra to the original track. I however much prefer the original raw version with Eva and a guitar. It is true to the core.
What a beautiful song, giving Sting credit. My favorite Mary Black hit it out of the park on one of tours with this. Likewise, the angel Eva also blessed us all!!!
While scrolling through Eva Cassidy videos I saw this and wondered what someone did to the song because I know her original version did not have an orchestra. I usually don't like 'covers' but this is not the case. I will always love the purity of Eva's vocals and appreciate that she had 'her band' accompanying her on this song, I think the added strings give a fuller and deeper emotional feel to the song. Glad I watched. Thank you. North Hillls CA USA 03-12-2021
You can have an Americans Got Talent star and train them how to stand. You can help them with pitch, use auto tune, teach them how to sing with passion, how to reach the audience, and all the rest. But you cannot teach this kind of talent. There are vocalist with a great voice. There are those with a mediocre voice who can sing there butts off. And there are those who have both. They come once in a generation. You can't teach what Eva had! Her school was life. Whether happy, or sad, in love, or in mourning. The ups and downs of life groomed who she was and her music showed that. On a scale of one to ten her voice was an eight, but her singing, emotion, and passion, was an eleven! We miss you! It's sad she became famous after her passing! In this reality all true artist are more famous after they pass. Thank you Eva, you left us with this amazing legacy of your heart! From heaven looking down we want you to know we love you!!
They should have re-recorded this with the London Symphony Orchestra and put it on the new CD coming out April of 2023. I am so disappointed that this track is not on the CD. What were they thinking by not including this song?

A beautiful song by Sting, but I prefer Eva's acoustic recording in a lower key. I don't want to take anything away from the wonderful arrangement, but the lower key she sang in has a warmth that can't be ignored.

As McCartney would put it, I'd say you took a sad song and made it better... The arrangement is nice and supportive overall, and the string layers are very well done, although in my humble opinion has consistency issues in some sections and lacks an overall thematic approach. I like the restraint you took by not trying to add too much, harmonically or contrapuntally. The string samples you used sound nice, although the levels could be tamed a bit (too overwhelming in a few places). But please tell me why you needed to transpose the pitch up at all? It was the first thing I noticed the first few seconds the song started playing, and I'm sorry but it was too much for me to bear. You can easily hear the nasty artifacts resulting from the pitch shifting. Perhaps you can try MPEX (with the Dirac option) or Izotope Radius to do it, although I believe it would still sound bad since you're transposing the whole mix...
I don't need a west wind to remember you Eva. You're a part of us and we'll always remember you.

I've been a music lover for 65 years..I've loved many songs, but if I could have written one love song this would be it.
Songwriting credit goes to Sting, but he admitted that Eva sang his song better.
Eva Cassidy, an angel still with us in her recordings.
Her voice always reaches my soul and brings me to tears each time. Thank you Eva for touching us in your brief life.
Same here. Reconnects your heart chakra to source.
Yep - gets me blubbering too.
In tears now, again.

Utterly beautiful. But that's always been the truth. Awesome strings. No question.
