    This is truly a great scene in this movie--very powerful. I wish this movie would have done better at the box office to pave the way for a third movie. Got lots of ideas as to how the third movie could have gone. It's pretty sad that the true fans of these movies would never see this happen. To me, both I & II were equally great movies--critics be damned. I could never see the alleged 'flaws' in the movies that others were seeing--and I don't want to. I'd rather just (gladly) accept them as they are, and for what they mean to me.

      +thirdgengta I agree with virtually everything you said. I just watched both movies on Channel 18-3 back-to-back, and although I had seen the first movie before, I was totally unaware that there was a sequel. I like how the writers avoided the trap of Eddie getting back together with his original band members, since real life usually doesn't work that way, with all the loose ends tied up in one neat little package, although the storyline of the 2nd movie may have had more to do with the unavailability of the original cast members. However, having said that, I would have given anything to see Helen Schneider & Tom Berenger again, even just as a brief walk-on.
      Helen Schneider is so watchable & captivating. It's a shame she had such a short-lived movie career. Hard to believe she did not make any movies before Eddie And The Cruisers, and never made another movie again after Eddie And The Cruisers. I understand she eventually moved to Germany, where she was already achieving success as a rock singer by the time she made Eddie & The Cruisers, among her many other successes in the arts. The Germans love her, and as a matter of fact, you can find her musical videos, like Rock'N Roll Gypsy, right here on TH-cam.
      The only scene in the 2nd movie I would have liked to tweak a little would have been at the end, when Eddie's on stage at the event & introduces his band members to the audience, and then lastly, with hesitation, introduces himself as Eddie Wilson, the rock star who had been thought to be dead for 18+ years.
      If I was directing the scene, I would have had Eddie hesitate longer with a lot more visible emotion ... I mean, after all, he had waited nearly 20 years to tell the world that he is alive, and now he's doing it in front of a live audience? That's a huge moment. Then, right after he revealed himself to the audience as Eddie Wilson, I would have had the crowd go suddenly silent, in shock & disbelief, and I would then do some close-ups of the audience's individual faces, as they look at each other & then look back at Eddie, as you can see on their faces that they're trying to process what they just heard him say. And you just know they're thinking, "how can a "deadman" be standing right in front of us?" Then I would have one audience member finally say in a soft voice, "it's Eddie"!! Then another one a little louder, "it's Eddie"!! Then, one by one, I would have the individual audience members begin to speak his name out loud, and as each person speaks his name, their voices get louder & louder, until there is a roar from the audience, as everyone at that point is shouting "Eddie, Eddie, Eddie", as you see the tears come streaming down Eddie's face.
      And yes, the movie obviously was a total rip-off of Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band, but in the movie, it made for a really great sound & great stage presence, and I loved it.
      I read where one critic of the 1st movie, at the time it was released, said that the music of Eddie And The Cruisers would not have been accepted by the Rock Fans of 1963. I would probably have to disagree with that, because 1963 was only a few years away from the drastic changes that would eventually come with Rock Music. On the other hand, many would argue that those drastic changes could only have happened with the escalation of the Vietnam War, which was still a few years away.
      Who knows. Maybe in some alternate universe it all happened the way the movie showed.

      @thirdgengta 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Steve Joshua Yeah, I see what you're sayin', Steve. So far as the ending is concerned, we're pretty much in agreement. However, I would have swapped the position of two songs in the movie. I would have put the closing song--'Pride and Passion,' a more upbeat song--in the festival tryout scene. And in response to the shocked but silent audience after Eddie reveals who he is, Eddie could have "got on with the music" and proved his point by ending the movie with the more dramatic 'Maryia,' much to the audience's delight and acceptance of his presence.
      I kind of agree with the era problem of the music they were making in the first movie. I can see how 'A Season In Hell' might have been a failed early attempt at art rock by the Cruisers--sort of their own 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,' if you will. Artistic rock would have been three years away from the original Cruisers timeline, and would NOT have been fashionable in 1964, when surf music was the rage. But this theory falls in line with the quote that Eddie was "way ahead of his time," as the fictional writer Maggie Foley put it.

      Sal was the one that kept him going in the first movie. And the second movie it was the sax player Hilton and his new girlfriend. Both of them challenged Eddie to deal with his past and make peace with it. In the end he finally got what he always wanted on his terms. Probably would have happened sooner but he decided to lay low for 20 years because of pain rejection and losing another close friend Wendell Newton the original sax player for Eddie and the Cruisers. Which by the way the sax player from the first movie is the real sax player with John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band.

    I haven't seen this movie in years. But now when I look back, especially this scene, it reminds me of the time when I worked in a building that had two companies back in the late 90's in which it used to be a small elementary school back in the 70's. The first floor was Cudell Improvement, Inc. And the second floor was Kirby. I was a maintenance worker on the first and second floor. This lady who worked at Kirby on the second floor was my secretary. I liked her. She was tall, had dark hair (Shoulder length). And big pretty blue eyes. She moved to North Carolina shortly there after. She said she would come back to visit sometime. But she never did. But at least she called a year after she moved. She said she was moving to Chicago to start a business. I thought that she would maybe get married and be there for life. But it was short lived. In 2010, I found out that she moved back to town in 2000. Not that she died or faked her death but, It just feels like to me that she's been gone for 20 years and now she's back. And I feel better knowing that she's still alive and she's well.

    I just saw this scene. It was the line, "I was your best friend, God Dammit! What kind of a person does that to a friend?"
    Hit me kinda hard, 'cause I estranged myself from MY best friend 15 years ago, right after the towers fell. 9/11 sharpened our political differences, and brought everything to a head.

    • @dan19630
      @dan19630 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Steve Joshua sometimes you have to estrange yourself for preservation. I once had a good friend who help me sort out some things when I was going through a tough time in my twenties. I was even the best man at his wedding. But he took advantage of my friendship and my personal property. Pawning a guitar that I loaned him for a weekend was the tipping point. His now ex-wife and I are still good friends. She never understood the depth of why I had to do what I had to do for 30 years. And then she saw her ex-husband treat their own daughter the same way he treated me is when she finally got it. It took her 30 years to finally understand why I had to distance myself from that guy permanently. He had 30 years to try to make it right. In the beginning he made excuses and turned the tables on me and make it look like I was the one that was the problem and not him. He does this with everyone he meets. Took me 2 years to figure that out but this was a repetitive behavior of his.

    Imagine for a moment, that while the names are being read at the 9/11 Memorial that someone thought to have been killed in the collapse of the towers and never found, survived, and got out of there asap right after and disappeared like Eddie did for whatever reason. Finally two decades later that individual is there on the day of the reading of the names and spots his or her relatives from the other side of one of the memorial pools and begins to walk around to them.
    The family members that are there and grieving the loss for yet another year look up and spot someone approaching them slowly and cautiously. The family instantly recognizes the walk, the facial features becoming more visible the closer they get until finally they're staring at each for the first time since the early morning of Sept. 11, 2001. what would their reaction be? Would it be an outburst of anger or would they have a joyous reunion there filled with tears of happiness?
    Whenever I watch this scene that's what I'm imagining happening.

      +doobeedoo58
      I agree. Even more than this scene there was the flash back scene where, back in the early 60's, Eddie was on the beach explaining what he wanted in song lyrics. In the original movie, he was saying this to Tom Berenger's character but in the sequel they dubbed in Sal. I thought that was sloppy of the producers to do that. They should have just used Eddie for that scene.

    • @thirdgengta
      @thirdgengta 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +doobeedoo58 I don't know. To me, Frank (Tom's character) seemed to be more restrained and logical than Sal. Sal was full of emotion--putting a lot into the music (sometimes, overdoing it [the 'caesura' moment from the first movie]), and would have had a more dramatic impact with Eddie's return. In addition, Eddie and Sal were original band mates, and it would be logical to assume that Eddie would have a stronger friendship with Sal than with Frank.

    • @Artisan1979
      @Artisan1979 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      doobeedoo58 no I don't think so. Berenger's charavter didn't have as long a history with Eddie as Sal did. For all we know these two were childhood friends; that would more than justify Sal's anger and feelings of betrayal. He had every right to lay Eddie out on that beach. He got married, has a career and a son; you can't tell me he didn't once wish that Eddie could have been there to help when things got bad.

    • @TheDapperSwindler
      @TheDapperSwindler 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, that and it feels really rushed and obligatory to me. For a sequel the movie as a whole seemed to me to want to have as little to do with the original as possible. Which I guess would be fine since sequels should stand on their own, except it felt like this movie didn't even _want_ to pay respect to the first one. Like with Sal completely replacing Word Man in a flashback scene, and the total omission of any other character from the Cruisers band, all of which had unique and interesting personalities. This movie had so many interesting directions to go in, and to me they picked the most mundane and uninspired one, likely for a quick buck.

      DetectiveBat2024 There’s also the matter of those record producers claiming that he was alive and that he had made these additional tracks without his knowledge or involvement. These guys seem like they were childhood friends and they collaborated on everything. Maybe Sal was too harsh, I will admit that after three years of thinking about this. But the fact that Eddie not only faked his death but create a new music without him, there is that additional betrayal. He really feels like a fool, like he never really knew Eddie at all. Can’t believe that those assholes at the studio were right, and that his best friend could do something like this - all of this -and cared nothing about those hurt.

    First of all where did he just come from (merman)???? 2nd how did he find Sal (stalker) ???? 3rd he actually had the nerve to raise a half fist :) Sal file a restraining order please. Oh where did Jr boy dissappear too????

    • @jd-no7rw
      @jd-no7rw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that half fist raise is the "Jersey boy" coming out in him. He'd been in a number of fights, it's probably just instinct and if Sal had kept swinging, he would have fought him. Jr was back on the beach with his friend. The other two questions, who knows!

    Half way through the first movie they should had him come back. But like one of his friends was in a car wreck or a fire and he ran in and saved them. Making them wonder is he really still a live. Or if he was a angel that came back to save them, then had him truly meet them all together. Loved the ending of the original movie. But that should had been in the middle or at the 2/3 mark in the movie.
