Movie was great..but let's give the appreciation where it belongs. John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. Without them this ..these movies would have never happened.
“Why don’t you show me something I don’t know?” If there was ever a cue for a “hold my beer” moment, it’s that question. Kudos Eddie for putting that future lone gunman in his place.
Is Delta Blues better than Dixe Jazz? No. Different expressions of consciousness and emotion. Sometimes the same emotion sometimes not. Some music I listen to when in one frame of mind and yet others put me in a different frame of mind than when I started. Words and music
There's is a lot of truth in Eddie's lesson. I've spent the last few days hearing the second riff in my head. So I had to come back and listen again. Thank you for posting!
Thing is, if someone worked for their music and not focused on the fame, its not just old timers who would appreciate them. Real art is timeless and get into all people, all generations...which is why of course, they always have the biggest fan base. To the young and upcoming..think "integrity'...be true to yourself. It will take longer, but you will create something more vivid and true, and only you yourself will know when that moment has arrived. And the power of it, will be far beyond what you ever though in your earlier years, was possible.
That line stuck in my head too since I first saw this movie. In fact, I think that statement deserves to be spread so I just made this. Share the hell out of it. drive.google.com/file/d/149TQCAOMETIElDOnOKSEhExIMGCT0bb4/view?usp=sharing
That moment when you realize that all those calisthenics you've been practicing on are "not bad". But - can you "makem' cry". Can you makem' feel something with emotional empact. That's what they will remember. A lot of gunslingers can draw fast and fire a bunch of shots, but how many hit the target are really the only ones that count. One of the best music movies ever made.
One thing that’s admirable but Eddie Wilson is that he doesn’t give a shit about fame or the money. Yes those are secondary and very attractive but he cares about the music. Giving it a voice. Making sure that it defines him and not the other way around. What do you want to do was perfect it and make it sound so unique and so memorable that it holds you. And I totally get how his and ricks styles different. Rick is all flash and focus on the Pham and entertaining an audience. Eddie is all about conveying a story and letting the music speak for itself. It takes a long time to find that balance in any craft and this kid is in such a rush to get his face on MTV or whatever venue he has mind that he’s not focusing on the song or the story he conveys with his guitar.
Two key things I learned from this when I watched it over the years. Voicing and rhythm should never be overlooked, It's like looking at Andy summers or Glen Fry vs Michael Angelo Batio or Paul Gilbert, you can go all over the place with the fretboard with impressive speed but more often than not melody and simplicity is what you'll have stuck in your head. Hearing Eddie's part is like when I have the Steve Stevens Top gun theme or Joe satriani's melodies stuck in my head.
There is a lot of truth in this. I admire the intricate lead, but watching back after more than 5 years the simpler lead line was what I still remembered.
I so want to hear the full version of that guitar. It just makes me close my eyes and role my head to the tranquil rhythm. This short clip is the best part of the movie. In my opinion, the music on #2 far surpasses the first movie and John Cafferty is a GREATLY unrecognized musical talent.
It does man. Eddie’s chords flow with the track as opposed to Rick’s that work against it. Michael , as Eddie, sells it by the way he facially engages with the rhythm of what he’s playing. His take has that real “longing for years gone by“ emotion. The tortured artist persona. Eddie Wilson felt like an amalgam of all those great 60s and 70s artists like Jim Morrison. Artists who were ahead of their time yet completely misunderstood. For Eddie it’s always about the music first and the artist second. Eddie really gives that Yoda like feel to his advice to this kid. This is a guy that’s been around the block and has been through the worst of the worst, and sometimes failure is a better teacher than success.
If there ever was an opportunity to read what some of my thoughts about this movie meant to tell me, i just did. I could never have broken down what i felt about this movie until i read your comment. Its brought clarity to me. Thank you.
in the actual song ("heat of the night" by john cafferty and the beaver brown band) eddie's passionate/melodic solo from this clip is a sax solo in the song, beautiful song and probably underrated at that
A great song, too! Whole damn Soundtracks are great and still on my Playlists. Season In Hell (Fire Suite) and Season In Hell (Reprise) are so damn good 👍 👍
For those who are interested, the song that Eddie and Rick are jamming to is called “Heat Of The night”. Its on the Eddie and the cruisers Unreleased Tapes in iTunes.
John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown band was one of the best 2 shows I've ever seen in my life! And Mr. Eddie Wilson is the best lip syncer in the business! He puts Ashley Simpson to shame. 😎
I think this is the best scene in the movie; even better than when Eddie reveals his identity. Eddie's guitar playing is so clean and has so much feeling. Rick's version rocked out but the passion isn't there.
Apparently to really grasp the gravitas of this moment, you need to have already watched the first film, which is set in the early 1960's, and then this sequel, set in the late 1980's.
sigh still love hearing bernies music he has my heart content and boy we laugh... funny i sound like just breath bernie and practice i jus remembered, great times and more to come i'm sure!
A lesson is here (if you know where to look and listen). Ice cold, transparent and passionless shredding versus emotional, soulful and powerful playing. Yes......there is a big difference.
Except the "solo" if you want to call it that, that Eddie is playing is as emotionless and sterile as Rick Diesels, just slower. They could have gotten a better player to fill that void for the song.
Man you I sit and listen to that and I think to myself..what would this world be like without the sound of a lead guitar. It's not unimaginable but it is sure a dead thought.
If the music comes from the soul is the best it's real music it connects can you hear it soul music is alive when it comes from the soul and not the head few can do it you seen it here
Everyone is arguing over "this riff vs that riff"... Both parts were played by the same person. One is just more melodic, while the other is more flashy. A good guitar player could solo over this thing a hundred different ways and people could argue all day on which one is "the best" but it all just comes down to personal taste.
I know the intention of your post is to keep the peace, and I say 'good on that'. But in this particular instant that is what this video is actually all about .. a debate on musical quality.
I disagree. I have heard too many flashy guitarists running scales and basically what they do is pretty much forgettable. Then you take someone like Samantha Fish who has a great ear for what sounds great but who does her "flashy" guitar work in moderation and you have some great music. Steve Vai is "Rick" and Samantha Fish is "Eddie".
Great scene. They could've made it obvious by making the kid do a wanker solo, but his shredding is actually really good. But 5 minutes after watching this clip I found myself humming Eddie's solo, not remembering anything about the kid's except that it was pretty good like Eddie says. You want to know some great under-appreciated solos, listen to The Cars. Their guitarist will never be remembered as a blazing fingered virtuoso, but damn if every last one of us doesn't remember his solo for "Just What I Needed" note for note.
Your right about Elliot Easton. All of his solos are like little stories by themselves within the bigger story of the song. Live footage here on TH-cam of the Cars playing Touch and Go and the audience always cheering after Easton playing his guitar solo is so cool.
That's what I thought when I watched this movie growing up. I wanted to get to the level of Rick's playing, But I wanted to learn how you make melody and movement like Eddie. since john cafferty and his band did all the "eddie" songs, they probably did the instrumental to this too. it was on any of the soundtracks though. searched youtube.

Still slaps in 2022. America needs this.
This is my favorite scene from Eddie and the Cruisers II! I would rewind this over and over to hear Eddie's solo.
I'll do the same when I'm drinking 😂

Totally agree.
Damn straight. I always thought those guys were a more rockin' E Street Band. Sometimes Bruce was too folksy and then I'd listen to the BBB.
Yeah man
@@manhalen7046 very similar vocal style to. But they never got the fame that Bruce got. Even though they deserved it.
Well your not wrong exactly but then John wasn’t as pretty as Michael….girls make up half the movie audience.
Michael Pare nailed his role so well that when I watch these scenes I feel like I'm watching real life footage of Eddie Wilson
Damn!!! My all time favorite scene and the guitar riff I can feel it deep within my soul ❤🎶🎶 it's been awhile since I heard this again 💕🎸
“Why don’t you show me something I don’t know?” If there was ever a cue for a “hold my beer” moment, it’s that question. Kudos Eddie for putting that future lone gunman in his place.
This video is greatest example of why a melodic guitar solo beats a shredder's technical solo.
Wish it was on you TUBE
I wouldn't say one beats the other..its 2 guys hearing and feeling music a different way..That's what makes music so great..🤘
Is Delta Blues better than Dixe Jazz? No. Different expressions of consciousness and emotion. Sometimes the same emotion sometimes not. Some music I listen to when in one frame of mind and yet others put me in a different frame of mind than when I started.

The greatest sound i have ever heard
I wish eddie part in these tiny scene was longer this sound IS JUST EPIC
There's is a lot of truth in Eddie's lesson. I've spent the last few days hearing the second riff in my head. So I had to come back and listen again. Thank you for posting!
Started whistling Eddie's riff out of nowhere. Lesson still holds true
It's a lock, not a riff, fucking dumbass. A riff is rhythm, a lick is lead which is what they play here,.dumbasses.
Music like this is lost, hopefully not forever.

This is my #1 favorite moment in the movie. Thank you for sharing.
DAYUM !!!!! WATCHING THIS WHEN I GET BACK FROM THE DR'S I'M GONNA WATCH EDDIE LIVES AGAIN , 4 THE 25TH+TIME !!
The beat used in this scene is from a song on a collection called "The Unreleased Tapes". The song itself is called "Heat of the Night".
You are a legend mate. Thanks for sharing the info. 😊
Yes, only thing is, it is the saxophone doing this solo. Wish they had revised the song with the solo on the guitar.
Great freaking movie. Eddie lives!!!

Too bad a lot of musicians learn that lesson Eddie is teaching. The notes you don't play are as important as the ones you do.
