    The funny part is how Troy knew or thought Julius was a good man and wanted to basically show him mercy. What he didn't know was that Julius still had a ruthlessness to him probably from his experience as a gang member and leader. I'm sure that if he told the Playa back then that he was out of the game the Playa would've told the other Saints not to fuck with him. Unfortunately Julius by this point only saw the Playa much in the same way he viewed Gat. As a violent psychopath or sociopath, and therefore though he was justified in not only betraying him but trying to blow him up. Which ironically forced the Playa deeper into the gangster lifestyle and sociopathy. Julius really did create his own monster. Not by saving the Playa/Boss's life and recruiting him into the Saints, but through his betrayal and paranoia.
    Hmm... kinda like Salvatore in GTAIII

    The best mission saved for last. It's crazy that the Ultor symbol is purple than black and orange. Fitting end to Saints Row 2, everything came full circle, Julius said was right but he should have known all debts weren't paid. Wish they had continued with Dex but too bad that never came into fruition.

      You know it's funny to think about how Julius could have been reading the papers and seeing how far the boss he saved went.
      It feels right to do it at the end of the game since you don't have any threats on you though it would have been nice to have a change in dialogue but the game is still a 10 out of 10

      But in the end it was Julius fault remember in SR1 the playa was just the yes man doing what Julius told him to do. Control the drugs, take care of the vice kings and learn about the deal with the rollerz. Julius wasn't really protecting the hood.

      Julius created the saints to take out the other gangs and creat peace in the city. However, he quickly realized that it just open up the doors for other gangs to come into the city. Also, he knew Johnny and the playa was too deep in to the gangster lifestyle. He should have just leave the gang to the playa and live a peace life for himself. But he took his actions to take out the playa and it didn’t do the job.

    I was shocked and speechless when I reached this part. I loved Julius so much in SR1 and it's one of my fav Saints Row characters, but his betrayal did caught me off-guard.
    I was also skeptical since the Boss shows how greedy, prideful and ruthless he/she is. I understand where the Boss and Julius are coming from, which made this arc immensely conflicting for me. I applaud the writers for it! Truly the magnum opus of Saints Row.

    I remember when I was younger, I thought the Boss was wrong for killing Julius. I never saw the phone conversation take place beforehand, so I thought Julius was just trying to reform. Once I learned he took it upon himself to kill us from the first game, I couldn’t sympathize with him anymore.
    To this day, Julius could have saved himself if he never promoted us as his right hand man. You give a person power or too much of it after a long while, they’re prone to be corrupt with the need for more. I sometimes wish that there was a choice ending from the first game to make peace with Mayor Hughes or not, so that way we could decide for the Boss to be either sensible or a sociopath.

    • @theraven.4
      @theraven.4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He tried to kill the player because the player was a menace and the player confirms that he wouldn't have dropped his flags. It wasn't the promotion but rather his mentality. Power doesn't corrupt. It just reveals what is already there in your mind by giving you the ability to do something.
      Consider this, the playa in Saints Row 1 killed so many people that would weigh on people's conscience. Yet, like Claude we see no care.
      But, actually, Julius was never supposed to have been looking at his watch. A animator got lazy. Granted, a simple review could have easily caught that but companies didn't have good development processes.

    Even with Julius coming face to face with The Boss, the first thing he asks to them is "You look different, did you do something with your hair?" like with Gat and Aisha. 11:20, my reaction when I got bombed by the Tornado Attack Choppers for the first time. 13:54, the British voice line is my favorite when both Tornado Attack Choppers come in, not gonna lie. 15:39, my reaction when I did this part for the first time, you can't revive Julius there if he gets hit by one of those missiles from the Tornados.
    In all seriousness, Julius was right, but that doesn't excuse his betrayal. Julius formed the Saints as a solution to fighting off The Carnales, Vice Kings, and The Rollerz but with their rise, the Saints became not so different from the three gangs they wiped out. Julius saved The Boss as well. He still betrayed you by bombing you into a coma. Can't wait for the lore video on Julius.

    • @theraven.4
      @theraven.4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Actually, it was Troy who shot the Vice King. The problem with Julius is that he created a street gang to deal with other street gangs. Which is solving crime with more crime. In fact if you consider the 2 people running the Saints in Saints Row 2 you could make the argument that not only did his already flawed plan back fire but it made problems worse. Especially when you consider how much more violent the gangs are in Saints Row 2 compared to Saints Row.

    I wished SR3 was about hunting Dex.
    Seeing that Ultor was in the Red Fraction universe, SR3 could be about you killing Dex before he leaves Earth for Mars.
    The gangs could have been international level gangs. And Stag existence could have been justified due to Ultor's R&D.

    • @daniluk1997thebest
      @daniluk1997thebest 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It would be pretty interesting, actually. A little over the top, but in a right way AND, satisfying both SR and RF fans.
      I could imagine that Gryphon (which is funny, 'cause he is an easter egg to the OG Red Faction by himself) was assassinated by Masako Team (or the mercs - Ultor in the OG Red Faction had merc battalion, led by Colonel Masako) or murdered by Dex himself, Dex skyrocketed to the position of the chairman of Ultor, put all corporate money on some "secret project" (which reveals into mining complex on Mars during the plot), and The Boss and the Saints, who still being chased by Ultor or even Feds for what they've done in Stilwater and Ultor especially, makes a plan to get to the Mars to kill crazy bastard Dex.
      But, afterwards, I don't think that there should be connection in the end between the 3rd Street Saints and The Red Faction (as a faction), because events of the OG Red Faction were set in the 2075. In this scenario of SR3, I prefer 201X as a year of action.

    There's no subtitles for any of the wiretaps at all, would've been convenient.
    Dex visiting an intoxicated Troy at Tee'N'Ay was a hint towards the whole thing. Troy being absent for the entire epilogue in SR1 is another hint, before appearing in Saints and Martyrs/Salting The Earth. Troy being an undercover cop with The Boss getting almost killed in the yacht bombing by Julius pretty much gave him a heavy sense of guilt. Troy didn't even try to make Gat's prison life hell, he even got more security for him. Troy didn't even pull the plug on The Playa when he was in the coma.
    Also, that secret mission is automatically unlocked if you install both DLC's and start a new game after finishing the game. It breaks the illusion of a secret, though.

    • @PwnageSoldier
      @PwnageSoldier 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Massive series spoiler warning ahead
      That's because the DLCs (Corporate Warfare specifically), and the cancelled tie-in game Saint's Row: Money Shot which was set in-between SR2 and SR3 would've explained the Dex situation and everything. To give you a direct answer, in Money Shot we would've played as an Ultor assasin named Cypher who, in her several missions in the game, eventually takes out Dex with a headshot. This happens years after the ending of SR2, Revelations, Ultor Unmasked, and Corporate Warfare when Eric Gryphon, who is on friendly terms with the Saints, becomes CEO of the Ultor Corporation, and after Money Shot where Dex is assassinated and all of Ultor's internal problems are solved, them and the Saints would eventually merge into a new corporation, which is why in Saint's Row: The Third the Playa, Shaundi, Pierce, Gat, and the rest of the Saint's are so powerful, popular, and a household brand, and why we can use Ultor technology ourselves so easily in SR3. Unfortunately, this story was never really expanded upon so it's easy to not understand how the Saints got so extremely powerful in SR3, just when they only controlled a massive portion of Stilwater in SR2, and were fighting a massive war with Ultor.

    If you want to make a full analysis on Julius I would recommend (and pains me to say this) using some of the audio logs in SR4. It fills in gaps of julius’ past with the VK’s and King and leads right to forming the Saints

    Dang didn't expect this and ofc excited for the dlc missions coming up before the gameplay of this series is truly over.
    Again this was such a great game its so sad that this kind of potential was freakin wasted/underutilised. Makes me wonder if they just had gone to this kind of route would we have Gta 6 sooner because of the competition?
    At this point who knows unless someone takes over who isn't a knuckle head. But yeah as usual great video from Pro and can't wait for the analysis video cause dang ngl They're interesting af.

    11:14 (Ultor Tornado Chopper) This Tornado has been specifically designed for this mission. As soon as you kill those ground troops, make your way to the church RIGHT AWAY or you will get an instant death, no matter how much health you have.
    15:58 (Julius Confrontation) This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE cutscene in all of the Saints Row games. *_"Well I guess that makes even... BANG! Not Really."_* Such a great line!

    What I really want to know is why dex betrays you in saints row 2? I don't see a reason why he would try and kill you. He knows what your capable of, And he really doesn't have a reason to fear you as he dropped his flags and moved on similar to king who was a rival boss which you don't have a problem with either.

    I always liked and thought julius was a stand up guy and I thought he would have a more solid reasoning for doing what he did in SR1. That ending was just so shocking I just didn’t want to have to think you were gonna kill Julius the guy who took care of you in the beginning but that story isn’t too uncommon. it’s just messed up and we do need more crime games with good stories besides Gta.

  • @justsomeguy747
    @justsomeguy747 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Last time I played the game I did this mission before the Ultor arc. And in my opinion although Julius made some good points, he’s a hypocrite. Why? “The Saints didn’t solve a thing”. Well how are they going to rid the city of crime based on your leadership? He thinks that by betraying his gang he was able to reduce crime, but in reality he unleashed a greater force of rage and insanity. The boss. “Drugs were still being pushed”. Are you fucking bullshitting me? You made a deal with Orejuela yourself and put the Colombians in the Saints’ pocket. “Innocent people were still getting killed”, that much he was right. And then, he blames the boss for his own treachery of the Saints. While the boss was a ruthless killer, I think that Julius’ betrayal made him this way. He was a kid, brainwashed into crime by a charismatic, powerful and influential man, a mentor figure. Playa had no problem with Julius’ decision to leave the gang, it’s just the way he did it. And the gang life was all he knew, so he resurrected the Saints. If Julius told him, the Saints succeeded in their goal, we can just quit, he would have did. There is no indication that the boss was power hungry before. He was loyal.

    Dex storyline is the biggest plot hole in saints row

  • @ZakRas
    @ZakRas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Having played Saints Row 2 for the first time recently, marathoning my way through the series, 1 & 2 for the first time and 3 & 4 for the first time since 2012 & 2013, I did kinda spoil this for myself learning online that this mission existed and how to trigger it, I didn't spoil who truly planted the bomb and why. I did this right after establishing the new 3rd Street Saints crew but before starting any of the gang storylines, under the headcanon of seeing Troy like Playa & Johnny discuss doing so when they reunite.
    I feel this mission has a better impact doing it around that point rather than the end of the game (it can be challenging without any Level 3 or 6 Activities at that point), as the last cutscene closes the book of Saints Row 1's story & cliffhanger while also setting up the Playa's ambition & motivation for the rest of Saints Row 2's story, having been recently re-awakened from the coma to find all the effort and work they put in to conquer Stilwater in the first game completely undone.

    Hey Professional, I'm a long time viewer of your GTA videos. I just watched your Saints Row 2 playthrough from start to finish because all my friends who played it called it the GOAT in the same way we praise San Andreas as the greatest of the 3D games. I was not disappointed. It lived up to the hype and then some.
    There are just some details that I don't completely understand and would like a lore video to explain. Why don't the Saints or Troy pursue each other? The Boss doesn't take betrayal lightly, so why is he willing to look the other way for Troy, and why does Troy as Chief of police, not target the Saints at all? Do they have some kind of implied understanding that I missed? Please explain this in one of your massively detailed lore videos. Thank you!

    This game will always be the crowning jewel within SR's history. No matter how good or bad following games get. It had a cast you love, it has so much detail, the lil details and the big. It's the right balance of serious and gitty but kind of comical, sometimes not on purpose/off-handedly. The graphics imho still hold up pretty well. Not too cartoony but not so realistic it's dated looking. This game knew what SR was meant to be even if Volition was insecure about it. I just wish SRTT had them more like what the Syndicate was instead and had kept a storyline more akin to this if even introducing the same new cast and story elements. But hey. This game is why I kept my 360 and I almost sold it when 1 and 2 became BC on xbox but they kinda glitch out a lil so I hope in time like the PC patch that's coming, don't think it'd be tasteful to mention more on that for you know if you know reasons. It's that kind of love for the series and this game especially that really made me a fan, I hope maybe they'll make them more stable for newer consoles one day but who knows.
