Perhaps you can show us your current kitchen before it is removed, so we can rally behind you on your victory of a larger space to cook for a large family. I have seen the kitchen (other videos) so I can't wait to see the final results!

    As I watch each of these buildings go up, I realize you likely don't live in a zoning area...your climate is different than that of Northern New England for sure...and I so wish we could just add to our home here in the same manner you are doing. Coming from a family of 8 children - I'm the oldest - I wish we could have done similarly here in the 60's and 70's. I wish I could add to MY home and outbuildings in such a manner. OH Well! Regardless, I am amazed and so enjoy watching the banter, the love. Thank you for sharing your little homestead adventures with us. Blessings!

    How about a video with how the electrical works, it seems like you'd run out if feeding from the house or is there a secondary source? Septic? If so how's that work with so many people and do you guys use some of the grey water for plants and gardening? And how does the addition of a building impact property tax? Does it ever rain there? The one thumb down is from someone wanting more pug, lol.

    For explaining relatives etc.: you figure out what your common ancestor is. Then, comparing the two of you, you see how many generations removed you are. For example you can be cousins, twice removed, if you are cousins and the common ancestor is two generations back, or your grandfather. Great video.

    You may want to plan the plumbing first prior to walls going up, unless you have a raised floor, either way good to have a plan in place. I think the round window and large jars in Shey's home look nice, I can only imagine you will be incorporating all you have learned and taking the best parts for the new Kitchen. Best of luck.

    every time you mention the 6 people in 1 bathroom, I always wonder why you don't have compost toilets in the kids' bedrooms....I would certainly want one in the middle of the night....it's not like you don't have room for a compost pile. There..... 2 cents and all it's worth..... seriously....so happy to see your new start...what are we going to do when you finish your homestead???

  • @RacoonProds
    @RacoonProds 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Do the videos impact your construction schedule? By that I mean, do you feel "forced" to work on something every week, to have a video to put up? Or it doesn't really matter since you can put up a different kind of video anyway(competition, q&a, etc.. ). Would you have started the bathroom/kitchen construction as soon if you didn't have the videos? This one might be a bad example as I'm sure everyone is eager to get a another bathroom lol. With 6 peoples, there's never enough bathrooms.

  • @thereturningshadow
    @thereturningshadow 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Don't forget to RAISE that toilet flange up to accommodate whatever type of flooring you choose to do. Right now it is t dirt level and unless you plane to keep a dirt floor, it is too low.

  • @kathrynblodgett1969
    @kathrynblodgett1969 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Sorry darlin's you got the removed part wrong. The remove is up or down a generation. It your parents are cousins, THEIR parents being siblings, they are the first cousins. And then their children, you kids, are second cousins to each other. Shea is Erics first cousin once removed, because they are in different generations.

    • @blueaardvark00
      @blueaardvark00 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, removal is a generation. mom and dad's first cousins are children's first cousins once removed. first cousins children are second cousins. source: big norwegian family with lots of second cousins.

    Would it be o good idea to build the Kitchen wall kind of strait, so it will be easy to make the interior. If you would put up temporary a some plywood and sandbagging to that temp wall the interior wall could be flat and ready for a kitchen finish.

    I’m really curious how the rocket mass heaters have performed this year. I’m not sure how cold it has been where you guys are but I’ve heard it’s really bad this year. (I’m in Jamaica now so we don’t have cold). I’m thinking of using a mass heater when I do move back to the states and it’d be nice to see how they have done.

      I share a house with my brother. I don't allow him to use the main toilet because he seems to struggle with his aim...and treading in someone elses "sprinkles" in your bare feet at night when you go to use the toilet ..I am sure I am not the first woman to find this infuriating.
      I like to keep the bathroom clean - .and It needs to be clean for when we have visitors...
      So his toilet is the spare in the laundry....I wont go in there anymore..I went in once and I swear the stench from the "sprinkles"was like an acid burning out my eyes.

    What is the type of bags you are using to make the walls that you fill with dirt? We have been looking up eco style homes and we love your style. I just received my cancer free screening. Excited spring will be here soon, so we want to get started on building our home. Any ideas, advice that could help would be greatful. Thanks so much love watching your family and talent grow. Also it looks like your near the OR~Cali boarder. Most of my family is from OR~WA area. We are in Idaho right now I was caring for my parents. My father has since passed due to a long battle of cancer off and on 40+ years. So when I build I will be building a "Mom Cave" lol for my mother. That way she has her own space and is near so I can continue to care for her. Thank you for any help and advice. We will be building in the 4 corners area ☺️ best wishes in love and light

      Where We Bought our Earthbags (Continuous Sandbags or Earth Bags :) | Weekly Peek

      It is called 14 inch continuous polyweave bag material with a 6 month UV protection. Manufactured and imported by MLH directly from a plastic bag manufacturing plant in China. Years ago we bought it in bulk and sold off everything we were not planning to use. Back then, the cost was .15 cents per lineal foot.

    Always wondered why you never laid the earth bags straight out and avoided the pesky curves and circles. Anyhoo - I am mostly on a quest to see a walk through of Shae's bedroom after she moved into it. I feel that seeing her finished and furnished room was sadly omitted.

    Hello everyone. This type of construction is awesome. Can this be used in earthquake prone areas too? Thank you. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

    Do you use barbed wire between all of the layers or just some layers? I imagine these wires are meant to prevent the bags from sliding off the wall? 🤔🤔🤔🤔

      You got it. Used between every layer to give the walls lateral strength

    How do you know if your dirt is good for this kind of construction?

    Why did the underground electric wire have nothing preventing it from disindegrating? Or was I mistaken

      This wire is designed to be installed underground
