Not only the transition of the tau'olunga but also the men were topless in the tau'olunga,I think these were changed by Queen Salote to be more suited to Christianty.How interesting

The modern tauolunga that you see now, is not native to Tonga, it was adopted from neighbouring countries over the past 25 years.

i dont understand how that could be when both nations are Christian states and Samoa still obtains its original form of dance. Maybe it just what the royal family wanted as it better suited their European influence@@no8604

Amazing footage! Today's tau'olunga looks different but in this footage you see a real authentic way of doing a tau'olunga hips moving with upper body leaning back and more samoan Siva like.
