Glen Rabenberg | Improving Soil Health Workshop put on by Jay Young - Tribune, KS 2022

  • Glen was invited by Jay Young of Young Red Angus to speak about what it means to improve soil health at his soil health workshop this last December, in Tribune Kansas.
    It seems that skyrocketing fertilizer prices and a decrease in availability have added fuel to the regenerative movement in agriculture. How can we work with the soil to unlock the nutrients that are already there? How can we make a shift and start working with the system instead of against? It all begins with the soil. Glen talks about what it actually means to improve soil health and how important the soil environment is to the biological life within.
    For more information and resources, visit www.soilworksl... or call us at 605.260.0784.

      I have no idea but I would think it would test less compact when wet and more compact when very dry. I would think you would test it at medium soil moisture.

      I'm going to disagree, I think this is only part of the complicated puzzle.
      For more information you're welcome to search for the soil food web videos, Calcium makes only one mineral, We actually need all of them. If you haven't you welcome the also search for nutrient cycling.
      Please keys with throwing cheeky I think it's almost non-existent, As plant roots grow they release Exodus which is different types of sugars and other things the going to the soil and When the microbes released those nutrients back to the plant.
      They have done the signs on this it is unknown fact.
      So any calcium that is in the lower levels of the soil is actually going to be transported by those microbes back up to the plant route.
      Anyway information is out there on the internet.
      We must question why calcium is the most important mineral. Because it seems to me that he is basing this information on from a laboratory that test minerals in soils, Just because calcium is at the top of the test does not make it special..
      That's my opinion anyway.

  • @johnnmartens3067
    @johnnmartens3067 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It dose make sense that calcium would be more concentrated the lower you go due to leaching my solution is a diverse cover crop with deep roots to break up the soil to get air deep in the soil profile so that your cash crops roots can access the calcium that has leached plus the cover crop brings up the nutrients when you terminate the cover crops it will bring some calcium to the top when it decays

    • @oscar6832
      @oscar6832 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen soil test results measuring mineral concentrations at different soil depths. Soil type mattered, I dont remember completely but manganese (which has a denity 5 times greater than calcium) concentrations were good at all depths in clay soil but I believe it was at the highest concentration a foot down.
      My point is that deeper is not necessarily better, unless it*'s a sandy soil probe to leeching. Plants suck up minerals with the roots. The plants die. Nutrients trinkle back down with rain. It might have been slightly different, but let's say it was around a foot down in clay at least.

    • @OmarBaassiri-wd6wc

      Think about it. The sugar in coca Cola is engineered to be stable. Put that on your field and you may get some phosphorous but you won't get sugar in a form the land can be expected to biodegrade. Any positives you'll see will be because of the ph reducing effect. Temporary. If the sugar does breakdown, certainly it will degrade at a lower percentage purity by mass than compared to molasses. It says on the label... "stabilizers"...
      Just use food grade phosphoric acid for your healthier variation of Brawndo. I guarantee you. If you run two plots side by side, if you feed one plot phosphoric acid at 2% solution once a week, you'll notice massive differences. Add some proper calcium and all you'll need left is some liquid organic matter. You're fine. You'll be able to make conventional yields with reduced risk.
      Also, you have no idea what it will do to the microbiology of the soil at the root zone level. Or the free zones. Even if we go by the logic of Big Ag.... "don't give phosphorous at the end of the season as it will feed the weeds more than the crops." Yes. But that's because your plants can reproduce only so much compared to weeds. Otherwise, crops would grow LIKE weeds !!! Besides, you want root mass. Cut the tops. Leave the seeds. Let the future weeds compete with their ancestors as much as they would with your crops. You're already disadvantaged with a much longer growing cycle and much smaller plot densities to remain within productive nature of farming. These roots will allow you to feed the microbes, whose obsession for fornication is the foundation of life in your farm.
      One of God's most beautiful works. And yet still so rudimentary man behaves towards it. We need things in the micro level to do farming. When advances in quantum physics set the standard at 10^-12. Yet we write so much literature about the latter's advancements when we do not address the simpler and - quite honestly - more urgent demand for more living soil.

    PH has two sides Alkaline and Acid thus kindly include with the statement when you say increase or decrease pH based on Alkaline or Acid levels as they both have opposite effects on soil. Also Manufactures should make it illegal to sell calcium or any chemical to farmers who don't have their soil health reports, on which the sold chemicals would be used as without knowing soil health any chemical could cause harm and make the chemical companies look evil...
