    I have his pioneer line for my home theater... I love how his engineered speakers sound... they punch way above their weight class. Just added an HSU sub, and I’m completely blown away every time I listen to music... one day I may upgrade to the ELAC line

    • @Paranimal86
      @Paranimal86 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pho Tato the cross overs and drivers are fantastic in these speakers and better than many speakers even some much more expensive. Even the tweeter has large oversized magnets you won’t find in anything near this price point. When I upgrade I’ll be getting something much more expensive and it won’t be incremental... plus I would want something a little more appealing visually... I won’t be upgrading anytime soon.
      That being said you should get them you will not be disappointed.

    I have a pair of 6.2's active crossed at 85Hz to a pair of well tuned high quality subs. Been doing audio a loong time, and a huge fan of Andrew Jones. My money would be on the 6.2's as the diminishing returns point. I like the Listening Room, I subbed and looking forward to more speaker reviews.

    Sounds good. I'm listening (subscribed) I'd sure like to hear your take on Harbeth or Hegel. I think these 2 manufacturers (perhaps) maintain value in that dreaded valley
    of diminishing returns. Andrew Jones can take a seat with the best designers of (now) low cost speakers and (earlier) high end units. Elac has proven to be a good

    How do these compare to the elac adante?

  • @wyup
    @wyup 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have them and they require high and quality watts. I have tried them with hybrid integrateds of 50 and 80W and boy they have incredible body and bass like a subwoofer. I listened with the new Musical Fidelity A1 and their tonality is awesome, extended highs (not rolled off) and just enough bass (although they need more watts for fuller midrange and extended bass). I'm going to recap the tweeter because they really deserve it. I compared them to the new Andew Jones Mofi Sourcepoint 8 and they sound amazingly similar: the Mofis put more textured bass (more efficient) and slightly better highs but you wouldn't believe its x6 price difference.

    Great introduction - thank you. Just subscribed! I’m looking forward to the follow ups. Any further thoughts on amp pairing? You mentioned you use a Class D and I see Steve Guttenberg liked them with his 25W (Class A?) amp. I’m wondering if the Schiit Aegir (20W into 8 ohms and 40W into 4 ohms) might be enough for these?

    • @amazoidal
      @amazoidal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      See if you can find a Parasound 2350 on demo sale at Audio Advisor. Class D, B&O ICE module, 350wpc 8 ohm, 600wpc 4 ohm. Read the reviews. Maybe you can find one for about $900 like I did. I have two pairs of the Debut B6.2 and they are quite hungry. My Marantz 19 was weak but the 2350 makes them sing.

    At the 3:40 mark, the mention of "not real wood" is actually good. One does not use real wood for a speaker cabinet because the variation in wood grain cause audio differences. That is why good speaks cabinets are always made of engineered wood products like mdf or particle board, and then painted or given a faux wood veneer. If an expensive speaker uses actual wood, it probably would look great but unfortunately would also have inconsistent audio performance.

    You might want to check out the Adam speakers featuring their Heil Air Motion tweeters

    • @markgundy
      @markgundy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Harry Fishnuts Odd then how more and more recording studios are using speakers that make your ears bleed... the technology has a number of significant advantages in that the mass is extremely low, allowing for transient response times down to 15 ms (human hearing threshold) which actually allows for prolonged periods of listening even at elevated levels without the fatigue associated with normal speakers. Since the A.R.T driver squeezes the air rather than pushing it, the system can move 4 times as much air volume as conventional speaker (tweeter). But you already knew all this... right? The Lord of the Rings trilogy was mastered on Adams.

    • @markgundy
      @markgundy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Harry Fishnuts I grew up with Ampex reel to reels... my dad was an engineer and executive at Ampex. I had a pair of the original ESS Heils (AMT1A's) but they suffered from poor Bass as you correctly pointed out. I don't believe the Adam speakers suffer such constraints. My Polk SRS1's have served me well but really the draw for them was theater experience. Digital doesn't provide a perfectly smooth waveform but at some point the ear can't hear the differences. My Laserdiscs have analog audio and the sound is pretty damn good. There have been some standards like SACD come along but never gained much audience. Perhaps with the move to 8k we can finally get something rivaling reel to reel. At least you have an informed opinion. Good chat.

    A reference speaker is going to sound different in everyone's room(s). What is bright/forward/sibiliant in my room may be just right in your/his/her room. For example, this week I tried a Focal 706 in my listening room and I didn't care for it all. The highs were very forward, the midrange was distorted, and the bass was anemic. The Polk S15's, on the other hand, had very good bass, nice midrange, and the highs were bordering on being "shouty." The KEF Q150's are doing almost everything right in my room but they lack the best levels of separation between the instruments and the finest details coming out of recordings. The Polk legend L200 speakers got everything right and nothing wrong in their performance in my room, however, they are a little too expensive for me. So, I've ordered the ELAC Reference Debut in the same finish you have in this review. I look forward to seeing the measurements you get in your room and hearing your thoughts on these speakers.

    • @MattZildjian

      thoughts on these elac debut reference?

    • @victorpirsoul3979
      @victorpirsoul3979 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MattZildjian So far, they aren't doing anything wrong. The midrange is a little less "lively" compared to that of my Polk Audio LSiM 703 bookshelf speakers and they don't dig quite as deep as the Polk's but, other than that, the soundstage is very wide. Instrument separation is good - they keep up with classical and progressive metal very well. They outclass the KEF Q150's easily, delivering a much fuller sound. No issues with the bass slot being in the front, they do well for only one 6 1/2" driver. The top end has a lot of detail and is never fatiguing. I like the DBR62's much better than the Uni-Fi UB5's or UF5's. I hope that helps

    Your comment about horizontal dispersion didn’t account for the fact that wide horizontal dispersion cause interaural distortion. This happens because when content in stereo channels are correlated and each each receives sound from both channels that interfere with each other. A large array speaker has a narrow beam width and a sweet spot, and headphones, don’t have as much of this distortion. The is was addressed by Polk audio many years ago and updated with wider bandwidth design. The imaging of these new Polks are apparently incredible. They also come in a surround configuration and are expensive. I would recommend listening to the new Polks to understand another way to get to extreme performance. I know wonder if I bought 2 extra of these ELAC debut reference speakers, could I emulate the intra-aural interference cancellation.

    Changing modern amps has less influence than changing vintage amplifiers. They still sound different but I agree the range has narrowed as many use the same internal dac chipsets and architectures. With Vintage amplifiers changing between them makes a much greater difference. Tube amps make even a greater difference, but vintage solid state have a wide range of sound coloration and profiles. I have the Elac Ub5 and the Debut 6.2. I look forward to when I try the Debut Reference series soon. I have also used Polk RTI - A3 as my other main speakers in apartment and have Polk S20 coming soon. I think I may get the Elac reference towers if they match the other Elacs for center and other channels. I have mainly been using a Denon x3500h and a Yamaha RX-585 for modern receivers but a wide variety of vintage amps which are more preferential in altering the sound. My other trick is to use dacs like smsl m500 as reference and to feed the vintage amplifiers for digital sources. The other thing is that vintage receivers tend to have better phono stage built in although my denon x35000h isn’t bad just outclassed by the vintage gear.

    I think Andrew's 3-way UniFi series are better (and cheaper) than the Refrence because he tried harder during his initial releases to impress at lower price-points. With the right power and placement they are simply magical. In the beginning Andrew wasn't trying to satisfy the requests of non-audiophiles with higher ohms, placement against walls, and tilted up high-end. He produced the UniFis to sound as close as possible to his love of high-end (and very expensive) speakers... He has since reduced bass, raised high-end and cut costs.... The diminishing returns thing started and ended with the UniFi series. Best value to date... Not sure about the new uniFis yet. I think he did the same thing to that newer series. Port in front, raised ohms, reduced bass and raised high-end. Oh yeah and cut costs with cheaper binding posts and moved back to peg mounted grills.

      If an amp rated for 4 ohm or better at 2 ohm stable, it is a good amp; if the amp manufacture do not rate the 4 ohm, like many AVRs, it is an underpowered amp even many AVR's claim 700 to 1,000 wattages.

    Ever ask yourself why the mass-produced Revel is expensive? It's a boutique brand and they arbitrarily charge a high price. They don't cost that much to make.
    Beryllium has been this industry hype for a while now. It's light and doesn't resonate much. That doesn't make it the best. There are $30 tweeters that measure just as well.
    Andrew Jones could have used a fancier box and an esoteric name and charged the same as Revel.
    Take away the snob pricing, the hype and you will be able to say that the Elac DR is just as good for a fraction of the cost. It's just not audio jewelry.

    All DAC’s basically sound the same - they run the same program to convert from digital to analog. The only possible difference would be possible distortion added in the analog signal but they don’t amplify the signal much.

      All DACs don't sound the same. Even swapping opamps within the same DAC can alter the sound it produces. In fact every component in a system affects what we hear.

    Debut Reference line are a great value proposition, but not true hi-fi. Elac's Adante line are their true hi-fi speakers. They start at double the price of the Debut Reference.
    I commend you, if your intention is to present to your viewers very good speakers that sound great with music and can be incorporated into a full Surround speaker system.
    Hi-fi speakers are not just about sound, aesthetics and build quality are also important factors. For audiophiles, displaying your audio system front and center is very important.

      I agree with that, the Debut 2.0 6.2 are over rated.

    Quite few reviewers mentioned it's flat but it's also nothing special, it could means nothing done to make the sound more engaging, or more forgiving...hmm...

    Wait - reviewing a $600 speaker without giving the frequency range. It takes guts to buy a $600 speaker without listening to it.

      Veer Arjun The last time I saw a guy wearing gloves like that he had an allergy to bright light/sunlight. Not sure if thats what is going on here but I am sure there is a reasonable explanation why his videos are dark.
