    I love this because while watching I do the same things I do when I do the same jobs. I find myself inhaling and holding my breath when you measure, or leaning in to hear the wheel touch off. Then I realize you are doing the same thing 😂
    For what it's worth I have similar discrepancies when side wheel grinding on the surface grinder, the cylindrical grinder, and the crankshaft grinder. Radiac told me not to spark out, so I don’t get anything trapped between the wheel and part thst tricks me. But, doesn't seem to help. So I pretty much sneak up on size, measure, and grind holding my breath.

    Guys, you too can make that awesome sound at home if you had your own set of PFG stones.
    They make that sound because they are PFG.

    Hi Spencer, I believe your machine is fine. When side wheeling with a stone wheel you have wheel break down so you do not get the same amount as you crank in. Also, if your wheel dulls up a little on the first step then it will take more pressure to cut on the second step causing the wheel to push away. Side wheeling is a pain. You also get a little barrel distortion as the wheel goes on and off the part because at that time you are cutting with ether the front edge or back edge of the wheel and not both sides like it does in the middle of the part.

      @SolidRockMachineShopInc Would using a cup wheel relieve the issues associated with side wheeling, Steve? I'm ignoring the time required for a wheel change.

      @@carltauber2939No, you would have the same problems. The best way to side wheel is using a CBN wheel for steel. The CBN break down is close to nothing and if dressed right generates far less heat. You still have the barrel distortion but it is less than .0001" if done right.

    Dressing that wheel gets scary close to the chuck.

    Some Questions:
    1) Is it typical that one can hear the wheel make contact before you see sparks? Is it better to "touch off" by sound than by sight?
    2) You used the grey (coarse?) side of the stone to stone the chuck. Did you follow with the fine side, or is this not necessary?
    3) After stoning, is it recommended to flush the surface with alcohol or kerosene and then wipe with a lint free cloth to remove any asperities that were broken loose by the stone?

      @KPNH  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1) Sometimes.
      2) Nope. Not necessary. The "coarse" side has bigger holes for swarf.
      3) I use my hand.

    Excellent realization at the end there with the micrometer, but unless I was following wrongly, before grinding your dimension was 7 tenths under 5” after setting the grinder to 6 tenths your indicator was reading 3 tenths over 5”. So you didn’t set for 6 and got 3, you set for 6 and got 10.

      Spoiler: We get there in the end, as the smoke clears.

    Loving this but it's in danger of becoming a metaphor for entirely too much of life.
