I've been in the teamsters working warehouse jobs for 10 years. The pros: great pay and benefits. The only con is no stability on the schedule.

Same bro. Just got fired today over too many write ups. Foreman kept lying on me and writing me up for ridiculous stuff. I filed grievances on over half of my write ups and the manager who fired me told me the grievances didn’t matter and I was being terminated immediately. Whole time my chief union Steward just sat in the corner of the room and didn’t say a word.

@@markmiller7529 all of the write ups I got were goofy as shit and my foreman even admitted to me one time that it was either me or him that had to be written up but he would purposely word the write ups to get out of them easily. I was filing grievances as soon as I got the write up but the union would do anything and they just kept piling up. I did extremely good work but the way the company was set up if anything went wrong management could just drop the blame on the person below them. Most of the time my Forman was the one to get the blame and in turn he’d drop it onto me

It really depends on the Union and how it's structured. Who's at the top? Is the union consensus-based or top-down? If there's officials appointed with authority over others, who's appointing them? What conflicts of interest are present in your union? Does it compete with other unions? Donoteat01 has a pretty good video on the history of organized labor. He goes into detail on different kinds of unions around the 18-minute mark: th-cam.com/video/3HA3S_O_yxs/w-d-xo.html

If you look in the long run when you retire with the union, you will have around 1/2 a million dollars in your 401k without adding any extra out of your check and a pension that could range you to about $5,000-$8,000 per month for the rest of your life. All of the 60 and up guys took all of the overtime and holidays. You make the same pay. I was eating ramen while these old farts took the overtime and would brag about their new 5th and HD bike. My second shop I made sure the union did not come into the shop. Once I told everyone about seniority they said no thanks. My current shop I get paid 3 more dollars an hour then our sister shop who is union.. As mechanics we have a shortage the last 12 years. I can find a job the next day. With my 22
Years as a Diesel mechanic. I am not worried about being let go.

We need Unions. Unions make a difference. Unions are the workers. It’s the employers that manipulate the workers action on issues. Unions have resources to help inform workers and create media outlets to share to communities the problems the employer is doing. THATS NOT TRUE ABOUT UNION DUES. Your the problem. Union dues help with cost of education and right of representation and secure our contracts on the language to protect employees from being fired.
