Really pretty cool to see some Namco 246 hardware in action. Tekken 4 was pretty sweet and really pushed the series to a new graphical level, but I'll always have a really nostalgic spot in my heart for 3, played it a ton in the arcades in the late 90s. Awesome to see 4 running on the blast my friend, great stuff =)
I used to play this game for hours on end at my grandpa's house on the PS2, I should buy it and play it again because I don't play my PS2 all that often.
I loved it on PS2, especially the stages. Were there any graphical downgrade from arcade to ps2? (maybe the arcade ad more ram, similar to naomi-dreamcast)
Lol I know this is many years to late lol but to answer your question the answer is no ❤️🥰 The namco system 246 was LITERALLY just a PS2 running in a bigger arcade shell, they even used the same memory cards on the system 246 as the PS2 lol who would have thought 💭 ❤️ and the 246 arcade machines even had PS2 controller ports on them so you could bring your duel shock controller to the arcade and use it on the arcade machine lol As far as tekken 4 on the PS2 goes even namco themselves stated that since it’s a system 246 arcade game it’s a direct arcade to PS2 perfect port, absolutely no difference what so ever, it’s the arcade game on the PS2 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The sound from a 246 comes from the RCA jacks on the unit. They should be connected to matching red and white jacks on the I/O board, and volume is controlled from a dial on that board. If none of that is the problem, try hooking a pair of speakers up to that board directly.
Joseph Fanning I appreciate the info. After some digging, I went through those steps and ended up finding I was missing this molex style connector that had to be connected from the I/O board. Couldn't find one online so I kinda made one from an old pc power supply I had laying around. The audio is up and running! Been looking around now for the artwork for the cab. I have the marquee art and overlay but they definitely seen better days lol! Thanks again!
Ah yes Tekken 4 it is a fun game for both the arcade and PS2. I always enjoyed playing it and also have in my PS2 collection. Great video and was always interested to see the actual arcade hardware in action.
hey freind i know its been years since you put out this video but do u still have the namco system 246 ???? do u know if the playstation 2 verson of the game u can mess with the dip swich for insert coins ???? i was thinking of buliding a ps2 emulator tekken 4 but idk if u can set up a ps2 to accept coins for this game as credits if not ill have to spend money and buy a 246 system
The dip switches don’t really do much for coin inserts, they are mostly for video signal strength and accessing the test menu where you can change the coin settings.
It's based off of the PlayStation 2 system board but has more RAM than it and tekken 4 arcade has better resolution and textures and animation with higher polygon counts even though the PlayStation 2 versions pretty close it still looks inferior to this version
tekken 4 has the best Jin design but the triangle outfit was never re-added. which is a shame because it perfectly symbolises Jin during tekken 4 and 5.
i had it on my PS2 which was called the Japan Special Edition (With Bonus Characters from the Anime Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch), Nah no matters that the arcade version is not different in the PS2 version cause PS2 version has many features, But Still trying it on Mame 0.196

tekken 4 has so many flaws, in technical level it's awful, i prefer the original TAG or 5 instead of 4. (the main reason why TAG is so massively popular and 4 is the most infamous tekken of all history) the pros completely new outstanding voice acting for almost all characters characters redesigned in a powerful graphic engine a new interesting soundtrack and less forgetable than tag improved visual effects for combos and specials improved overall stages the return of tekken force (beat em' up mode) and a funny touch of the new chicken models replacing the sprites in tekken 3 and a lot more of difficulty the cons all the ingame text and the fighting interface in tekken 3 and TAG look very nice, here it looks cheap and plain kazuya mishima electric wind god fist is broken in the ps2 and look less menacing, it must throw you up in the air but now pushes you back the controls are fucked for this game, it moves like soul calibur and that ruined the gameplay and basic defense brutally both arcade and ps2 versions suffer from occasional video lag during fights, specially in tekken force where the overall video lag is atrocious the announcer voice is terrible, sounds bad and a bit off yoshimitsu look like a damn giant beetle (this is personal for me, i know is a new look but why xD) the entire moveset of jin kazama was replaced, wich can make things confusing for jin players on this game and eventually breaking their character skill at the time of playing in this release
Jin was meant to be a kazuya replacement. So tekken 3 Jin players should go to Kazuya for it. even then I do agree with the moveset change being bad the story explanation works but I do prefer my Tekken 3/Tag 1 style Jin

Christie and Steve are shown only on the PlayStation 2 port of the game, the arcade intro is shorter.

My personal favorite is Mortal Kombat 4. Though the console versions are different, I prefer the PS1 port.

Tekken-like games are the only ones i can play somewhat. Button combos intead of semi-circles and such. Great game on PS2 also :)
