    Genius scene.

This scene was exquistie. It honoured the siblings' extraordinary capacity for imagination and play. It acknowledged their undoubtable trauma concerning their prematurely deceased mother. And it cleverly used these circumstances to allude to one of Wuthering Heights's most infamous scenes.

Masterpiece of a film. One of the best crafted movies to come out within the past 4 or 5 decades. It’s not going to blow your mind or change your life, but there’s no denying how much care was put into it.

just saw this movie again for the third time after a while, this scene alone cements the movie itself to be one of the best biopics ever done. i don't care it's historically inaccurate, there are documentaries for historical accuracy. this is a gem of a movie and i'm sad it didn't perform better in cinemas and also online

I loved the movie. This scene blurred the line between imagination and the supernatural. The characters involved felt that as well. Emily touched something that frightened even her otherwise why would she bury the mask? This scene could make one’s hair stand on end. Where does inspiration such as Emily’s come from? That’s the question William grappled with. Sadly, he discovered the correct answer too late to save their relationship but thankfully was able to communicate his repentance to Emily through the letter. Amazing filmmaking, imo.

What does she mean by "The mask will break. The mask is not your friend, it will break you."? The part after that becomes a bit inaudible to me, I think it's "Every night I watch you & cry, that my children won't.. that someone will wear the mask!", which just confuses the hell out of me! Do you have any thoughts on that? I've been trying to make sense out of this scene since I saw it.

I can't help but compare Emily burying the mask to the scene in Wuthering Heights where Heathcliff is trying to exhume Catherine's dead body. It is a symbol of his mad obsession with connecting with his late beloved.

It was also difficult for me to understand all that Emily said regarding the mask but my best guess is that she meant that wearing the mask to hide one’s true identity (something many people do) would kill the soul eventually. Recall how Emily retrieved the mask after William basically accused her of receiving her inspiration from an evil source. After that, she tried to sublimate her creative energy by holding the mask back up to her face. William was only allowed to see the “mask” Emily chose to wear in his presence after his cruel rebuke. Her sweet vulnerability and authenticity was lost to him behind the mask. He felt that “death” in his own soul. So sad….

Charlotte, almost throghout the whole movie, scorns her younger sister, Emily. I hate that. If Charlotte didn't burn the first pages of Emily's second book, what would it be about, and what could the name be?????
