My grandfather taught me about knives. "Sharp knives are safe knives," he'd say all the time.. They take less effort, so you're less likely to get cut and when you do get cut it's a straighter cut that heals faster. He was an oral surgeon during WWII and had to sharpen his own scalpels. He taught all his kids and grand kids how to correctly sharpen knives.

As God as my witness, I will learn how to sharpen a knife.

That is so correct, coming from someone who grew up in the country and learnt to chop wood with an axe and a machete by the age of 10. Sharp tools make the work easier with less effort. I've never cut myself badly with a sharp kitchen knife. As for a machete/axe, correct posture and distance and technique is key.

Same here. I'm female but I was honored by my father when he gave me my first machete at the age of 12 1/2. It had a broken point, but he taught me how to sharpen it, and how to use it. Afterwards, I noticed that he never taught his sons until they were older.
Later, he taught my younger son when he and I had to live with him. Again, I noticed he didn't teach my younger brother even though he was of an age with my son.
To this day both my sons know the importance of sharp knives.
Actually, we all 3 know the importance of good kitchen equipment. ❤️ Truly dislike useless kitchen gadgets.

I’ve never been successful with cakes or cookies, though I’m a pretty good cook otherwise. Your detailed explanations of why and how to do things has given me the confidence to give it a shot again. I’ve been working through your recipes and just wanted to say thank you! My husband would say thank you , but he’s having a nap after gorging himself on your lemon cookies. Love your work ❤

I love to bake but im sad coz i dont have a beautiful kitchen like yours. And i wish i could have all your kitchen tools and your baking needs like oven, mixers and everything. Sorry for me, im just a simple vendor who can't afford to buy all these things. Life is so difficult here in the Phillippines. I am 60 y/o and my dream is to become a pastry chef, but my family could not afford to sent me to a famous school. Oh well, thank you for your teaching method and techniques, your such a good teacher. GOD BLESS...

I've been slowly acquiring the right tools for awhile now. When you're broke, it takes a bit. I got a cake decorator set with a lot of helpful items as a gift (including bags n piping tips), a medium sized sifter for my dry ingredients, copper cake pan and some other things along the way. When I moved in with my girlfriend she had a few goodies hiding around: like an egg separator! These are actually extremely helpful if you have any kind of mobility issues with your hands, making separating eggs much more accessible. I don't really like uni-taskers either but with as much eggs as I use the tiny amount of space it takes in my drawer is well worth it.

I have to say I just love your videos! I am an avid cook/baker. Long before pandemic days I was the person who baked my own bread and cooked my food from scratch. My family always says how hard it must be, but I have a system and I can put a bread dough together in 10 minutes the rest is rise time. I have a well organized kitchen and I have a small apartment so it's not about big, but using space well. You have excellent advice and recipes that anyone can follow!!! Wow, buddy boy! I've recently started baking, in large part due to the Coronavirus. My first profession as a very man was as a cook and then sous chef. I quickly found out I possessed a bit of natural talent with regards to ratios and aesthetics in cooking.
Fast forward nearly forty years, and I find myself, for the most part, stuck at home and a lot of free time on my hands. Preppy Kitchen has been an invaluable resource! Your approach to imparting information and your overall demeanor is yes, both entertaining and enriching. I really enjoy how you crack yourself when you start getting silly. It's not hard to tell that you have experience as an educator. Obviously, I am subscribed and you are the only food or cooking channel I have the notifications turned on. I understand you have two little ones, and I can tell you that when they get older there is precious little that is more rewarding than teaching one's children to cook! I have three kids and it's a blast! I can't thank you enough. Peace

My momma has a rolling pin she's been using since before I was born in 19 hundred and 73. There's so many tools and so little time. Now I have an idea of why I haven't broadened my horizons in the baking department. I don't have any of the things I need to do it. I really enjoy your videos! You have such a calm and gentle manner when explaining anything, and although I’ve been baking for years you have some great tips. I also like how you offer two options for a piece of equipment, one can be pricey and the other a home made budget version (which makes a nice change from being sold something!).
I congratulate you on being clear with your instructions and giving the measurements in both US/UK - much appreciated as I’m based in England.
One last thing; when is your book coming out, and your TV show on air?

My Mom had a flat whisk that looked like it had chicken wire covering the whole thing, and she used that to whisk up her meringue and even 7 minute icing, I don’t remember when she finally got the tool that had two smallish whisks and it had a little wheel with a knob on it that had to be turned constantly until whatever she was baking that day was mixed well, I know she was so so happy when she finally got a stand mixer, I think she wore out two of them, as did my cousin, and even though I’ve baked a lot through the years, I’ve never had a stand mixer.
