#coyote #hunting #predators West TN predator hunting. January 2023. Had 2 hungry bobcats come to the call. Check it out to see if we can get them on the ground!!
No Bobcats are not overpopulated…..you may hear them squalling at night which can be a little unsettling but actually seeing them is rather rare. Farmers do not consider them a threat to livestock. Open range chicken folks will see issues involving fox and coyotes long before a bobcat comes along. To show the taking of game in slow motion in a replay mode tells me these guys took the cats because they could….sad.
@Square Bale Yes we hunt because we enjoy it. Yes, we also hunt because the landowner wants them gone. There are many reasons to have them removed. I would go through that with you but we don't care what folks like you think.
@@WestTNPredatorHunting DWR Biologists reviewed pictures of a young large cat I took here on the farm over the last year. Wild Geese on the pond attracted the cat rather frequently for a while. Because the tail of the cat was longer than the body of the cat itself the biologist identified the creature as a “Long Tail Bobcat”. Officially the cat that I described that comes to mind for both you and I doesn’t exist in the state in which I reside. Bureaucratic Biologists repeatedly tell those who report sightings that Mountain Lions have not resided in my state for the last 100 years. Go figure!
The lynx is very shy towards humans, it does not see him as a possible prey, so there is no obvious reason to fear for human safety. There are also no known cases of aggression on the part of females in defense of puppies. The only exceptional case of an attack known to us occurred in 1993 in Slovenia and involved a lynx suffering from rabies. The disease has made the specimen confident and aggressive. The lynx, in particular conditions, such as the scarcity of wild prey and availability of unattended livestock, can occasionally hunt sheep and goats. In recent years, no zootechnical damage attributable to the lynx has ever been recorded in the provincial territory, nor any case of attack on humans.
You used AI on that response. In our area we dont have Lynx. These are bobcats. Either way here they are known to target our turkeys, chickens and fawns. So we help prevent that.
You can eat them. Bobcat backstraps are popular. We kill them because they eat stuff like chickens that the landowner owns. Therefore, they are a nuisance that's got to go.
@@WestTNPredatorHunting I never knew that. I'll be sure to point that out the next time I hear some racist joke about Asian people eating cats or dogs. It would seem to me that the unnecessary slaughter of these creatures will likely harm the ecosystem. I was always taught to kill wildlife only for sustenance and not for sport. Perhaps the landowners need to do a better job of securing their chickens.
@@southwestmotorcyclerider4644 This guy just caused himself a rat problem, because rats like chicken feed and they multiply until there is no more food fro them. Only a predator would keep the rat population low. This guy simply does not understand, that when there is food, there will be a creature to fill this ecosystem and there is not a damn thing anybody can do about it. Natural balance is the best one can hope for.
@kurtbecker3827 I'm the guy. We don't have rats like you apparently. We have mice sometimes but people that raise chickens know how to prevent that. They also know to ask us to come out if the bobcats are attacking their food source.
@@WestTNPredatorHunting The same way you prevent the mice getting into the chicken feed is the way you prevent the bobcats getting into the chicken coop. I only want to point out to you, that the one and only way to reduce pests is to remove their food source and to remove the environment where they can thrive. Never in human history was it possible to remove a species as long as there was food and an beneficial environment to support them. And every time humans tried to do that, they caused a much bigger problem elsewhere. If you continue interfering with nature, eventually you have to resort to poisons and pesticides and later you have to deal with diseases like bird-flu, then the toxins you use will find their way into the human food... it will only get worse. The number of bobcats will stabilize at a low level eventually, when you focus on protecting your chickens from bobcats while also avoiding mice eating your feed stock. If you have large monocultures in the same area, you need more bobcats and not less. Pests in the fields multiply until they wipe out the entire harvest season. Ecological balance is indeed the best of all the alternatives, even for humans.
Why you guys hunter bobcats? Did they cause untolerable hurting to your life? I'd like to watch more deer shooting. Too many deers around my house. They ruined my life because they eat everything I plant, folwers, vegetables.

They are populated enough that our wildlife service makes a season where we are allowed a 1 per day per person limit.
