It’s me! I’m the brother! I had so much fun designing and making this stand, but it’s nowhere near as much effort and class as you’ve poured into this video! Proud of you bro ❤️
Seriously, Alec's music in these videos hits differently! I find myself replaying the tunes more than checking out the gear. Can't get enough of those killer beats and melodies. Keep the music coming, Alec - it's fire!
Hell yeah! Philly represent - These guys also do repairs for a bunch of studios here in town and they've been crazy friendly the few times I've talked to them.
Always looking forward to your reviews more than any other, Alec! Nice to see a really well done one for DIYRE, I've been curious about them for years and haven't bitten the bullet to try them for myself. PS: soft nudge for the songs you've used on this channel to be up for streaming ;)
Man, the song is really great. I couldn't get through the video without going back to listen to it several times. Thank you for such an excellent experience, you really made my day
Realy great demo, Alec. I've been using their gear literally since they started and there's so much amazing stuff they have on offer for folks who are interested in DIY electronics. Their DI and Reamp boxes are easy enough for beginners but sound great for studios of all sizes and we have proven in many tests and measurements that the CP5 Mic pre is quieter/lower noise floor than the Grace m101. The preamps were created in cooperation with GKL Labs (worth a search) and their owners gave a great talk on mic preamps "The Sound of Pre Amps - Eric Gaskell" and "TheHistory & Evolution of Mic Preamplifier Circuits - Peter Gaskell" Be well!
Yo thanks for doing a review of these modules and the Colour duo! I have a bunch of color modules and the Colour duo myself and think it’s a really cool concept that not much people know about. I hope more manufacturers get involved. I’m pushing some of my friends that have audio companies to join in! Thanks
I've been aware of DIYRE for years, now. Have always been curious about their stuff. I also watched all those videos when they dropped and have been intrigued ever since. Thanks for the demo!
Seriously the best gear reviews, and I can always look forward to whatever song is used to showcase the gear. The Colour ecosystem is so cool. I have a few from Louder Than Liftoff, and I’m always surprised at how effortlessly those little cards can elevate a mix.
I have the Royal Blue in my Link Audio SL4K-E01 preamps, giving me an amalgam for an SSL 4K preamp and a Neve 1081 preamp. It's really nice, and you barely need to mix it in. Really nice stuff. I've actually debated grabbing these and putting together some nice sonic options.
@@alecbrits yeah, I have a pair of the sl4k-e01 preamps with royal blue colour modules. I have a pair of their brown knob 4K EQs, and a pair of actual SSL 611 DYN comps. Link recently released their version of the ssl comp too. These are wonderful channel strips. The Royal Blue I use more for tracking for that Neve warmth. Really nice stuff. Check them out.
I keep saying it and I will probably continue doing so: These songs are all hecking bangers and are the second-to-main reason I watch Alec. The first is his affable demeanor and easy charm, of course. The reviewa are like a nice bonus.
I wish they would make a 8x8 line level box so you could just use these as inserts while tracking or mixing. Think of a 8 channel rack unit with 8 of the 15ips modules as a sudo tape tracking for drums just to add even more flavor to a console or you could use it as a summing box with 4x4 stereo outs. No mic pres just line level options with maybe DB-25 as i/o to cut down on cost.
Not a box but I use a pair of Louder than Liftoff Mister Focus 500 series modules either after Micparts as a second stage in the chain or as inserts when I need more heft on drum groups or the like.
@@QuiethouseRecording I have a pair of the 500 series Colour palette modules and I love them I only have the CTX and JFT modules in them but they are nice!! But I use a console for tracking and it would be nice to have a 8x8 box as inserts since I use the console's mic pre's 90% of the time. I could just wire up a couple of 8x8 boxes for a very nice 16 channel mixing setup for things like drums. I have found that using a desk for tracking gives my sessions a nice glue and phase coherency I don't get when just using 20 different preamps and channel-strips so adding say 8 or even 16 of the 15ips modules to permanent channels on the console would be amazing and a 19 inch rack box would save on buying 2 more 500 series chassis and then 16 of the 500 series modules. It would be like a an all analog version of the McDSP APB LOL!! Cheers!!!
My attention diverted from focusing on the sonic character of the equipment to the song , really like the song. Where can I hear the full version ? your song reminds me a bit of a song called Worry by Little Commets
It's an amazing company.and their concept. Im rocking the 2520 opamp modules these days (API flavor). I wish they would make VU analog or LED meters which is hard to find in the market, if any out there
Great video! Thanks so much for making it. I'm looking to get into the color modules for mixing and tracking, and I was wondering if you had an opinion/experience with how the CTX (or any of the other modules) would fair across a whole mix added in subtly for some console flavor? Thanks again!
I would imagine it to work quite well. :) ive not used it like that for my workflow, but i love what it does to stereo sub groups like drums, acoustic guitars etc.
I guess due to the manufacture tolerances of modules and no stepped pots for the colors it´s not for mixbus duties, right? In principle it could be interesting to blend all these colors to a customized 2-bus color.
Yeah, it’s a trade off for using the IO plug-in. Working on a solution for that in the future that will allow me to bypass and bring in hardware quietly without any artifices. :)
@@alecbrits Thanks for doing such a good job with this video, the colour format is criminally underrated. I have a bunch and really love them. I'd love to see more videos on this in the future! Maybe you could get one of those transformer based XLR splitters and then send one side to a colour pre without processing, and the other side with colour, so you can have two tracks for everything on the way in. For drums you could use some other clean preamp assuming you have 8ch of the same clean pre
I don’t know if I prefer them. :) currently testing them out to see how they perform. I’ve not used the newer AKG414’s, so I can’t honestly say which I prefer.
Would love to see another highlighting modules by Louder than Liftoff. Implode, Royal Blue, FETFilter, Mass Drivr, Pentode, etc... and the uComp from Zombie Rec. That pre chorus drum part is mooooooney brother. Great job!

That TM79 sounds amazing on vocals
It’s so solid! I was wondering what a summing mixer with them on each channel would be like, when it’s not working hard it sounds insane as well.

The TM-79 is based on the line input amplifiers on a 3M M79 tape machine, from what I understand. Dig it!

What were your top 3 if you could only have 3, what would that combo look like?
Also any chance of you guys selling the module holders?
It’s not something we are planning on currently, but never say never. :)

Will they ship to India

Look up the Louder than Liftoff Mister Focus.
Ha, I was wondering about that stand and who would have gone through the trouble of printing it. Now I know 😂
Hahaha :) them Brits brothers are at it again.
not clear to me if the 3 color modules can be used at the same time and also in parallel and/or in series! 🤔 ??
The three modules can be used at the time & they are in series. :)
