TO Make Besan Ka Chilla
Besan / Gram Flour - 1 1/2 Cups
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 Tsp
Kashmiri Chilli Powder - 1 Tsp
Salt - 1 Tsp
Hing / Asafoetida - 1/2 Tsp
Ajwain - 1 Tsp
Kasuri Methi - 1 Tsp
Onion - 1 No.
Ginger
Green Chilli - 1 No.
Carrot - 1 No.
Capsicum
Tomato - 1 No.
Coriander Leaves
Water - 1 Cup
Oil
METHOD:
1. Take besan/gramflour in a large bowl.
2. Add turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder, salt, hing/asafoetida, ajwain/carom seeds and kasuri methi.
3. Next add, finely chopped onions, ginger, green chillies, grated carrot, finely chopped capsicum, tomatoes, coriander leaves and mix well/
4. Pour 1/2 cup of water and mix well.
5. Pour another 1/2 cup and mix again.
6. Check for seasoning and add anything if required.
7. Heat a pan and pour a ladle of batter on it.
8. Spread it gently and add some oil to the edges.
9. Cook the chilla on medium low flame.
10. Once it done on one side, flip it to the other side and cook evenly.
11. After the chilla is golden brown in color on both sides, remove it from the pan.
12. Healthy and yummy Besan ka chilla is ready to be served hot with mint chutney and tomato chutney by the side.
Besan Ka Cheela translates to a savory pancake made with gram flour. This is an easy to make tiffin recipe which can be enjoyed for breakfasts or early dinners. This cheela contains a lot of veggies along with the protein rich gram flour, which makes it a wholesome and complete meal. It keeps you full due to the high protein and fibre content in it. Its texture and taste sometimes reminds of egg omelet and hence it safe to claim that besan ka cheela is a vegetarian version of egg omelet. This is great for lunchboxes and it makes a perfect evening snacks for kids who come home tired after a long day at school. All the nutrients in this dish just give them instant energy and they will be recharged to stay active again. This besan ka cheela is best enjoyed with mint coriander chutney or spicy tomato chutney by the side. You can also enjoy this one with tomato ketchup if you are a fan of the combination. A little oil won’t kill you, particularly oil that’s high in poly and monounsaturated fats as opposed to saturated fat.
