    I've driven the previous iteration of the Q5 and it wasn't even remotely in the same realm as the Macan, it's good to hear they have upped their game. As far as Audi's current pricing I will say with my current RS5 SB, it is a fine car, although I've been kind of shocked at how many times I've had to take it to the dealer to eliminate creaks and rattles from the sunroof and trim. At its pricepoint I really feel Audi should have spent a little more QC time, as I know other SB owners and we all have the same issues. The B&O system in the sportback isn't worth the extra cost and only makes sense because it is part of the Prestige package... on the RS4 it sounds good, but they didn't tune it for the acoustic differences of SB body. I would imagine the B&O for the SQ5 would sound better as it is not a lower production model. That said, I will probably a buy used or end of year Panamera or Macan next time, because for the money, I just don't feel the Audi is 'special' enough... yeah first world problems.

    Here’s a lot of people seem to miss about the sq5 and where it sits in the market and Motoman got it. The x3m40i and the glc43 are much sportier than the sq5, but realistically buyers of this size and price are really not looking for the sharpest handling SUV. They are looking for something a bit more special than their respective “base” model versions. As an owner of a 2018 SQ5 it’s a jack of all trades, smooth and quiet when you want and when the roads get twisty it doesn’t fall flat on its face. Price wise comparing it to Macan is a bit unfair since a similarly priced Macan won’t even have keyless ignition.

      C&D is saying the 2021 SQ5 still takes 5.1s to 60, which is a full 0.7s behind the bmw X3 M40 and Merc GLC43. The difference between 4.4s and 5.1s is big. Probably has to do with that turbo lag.

    When i returned my 2018 lease last month, I got the '21 version without the sport package. For everyday driving, it ISN'T necessary, but it is a treat to have because the drive is more comfortable and the car seems more poised in the corners compared to the regular coil springs.
    That said, $71k is a bit steep. My options were Premium Plus with navigation, Red Nappa leather, Ibis white (preferred the Glacier white), 21" Audi Sport wheels with summer tires, lane assist etc., and the Bang & Olufsen sound system for right around $64k. I don't care about for the bells and whistles, because it seems like one of those "I guess it's cool because I have them" ; however, for that price, a lot of this should come as standard. Cheers.

    • @joelc.armstrong7951
      @joelc.armstrong7951 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NONARCS it's still nice for now. I think the suspension isn't strong enough for NYC streets, as I hit some really bad road construction one time and the steering wheel has been off ever since.
      That resulted in one of the tires getting a bubble and had to subsequently be replaced. it took them 3 hours to do that one tire so I didn't even bother to tell them to fix the steering wheel, as I knew that it would have taken way longer and I didn't have time for that.
      I believe that had I had the air suspension, then it would have been better.

  • @GabrielBoehm

    We picked up our SQ5 right before Christmas, it had been on order sense August. We did have two options (towing package and vented front seats) so it bumped the price a little higher than your example. (the seat options changed with the vent option, so the price difference wasn't that big.
    In my opinion we got exactly what we expected. We have already road tripped this twice (longest was just over 10 hours behind the wheel in a day) and that has been a very pleasant experience. When we need to pass, it has the speed for that.
    Two changes that we will be making: 1 - The fake exhaust looks horrible and Audi has a kit to replace it. 2 - We will be getting a tune which should bump it to about 440 hp, but more importantly tune out some of the throttle lag.

  • @schmoestudy
    @schmoestudy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should drive the Q5 PHEV - it has the most power (but slower 0-60) at 362 HP/369 lb ft tq. It qualifies for $6712 EV credit. Can get air suspension. 30 mile all electric range. Efficient, quick, and well suited for daily commuting.
    The SQ5 you’re describing would be a premium + trim with sport package and dynamic steering which would be low 60s. Throw in some negotiation and one would be sub 60k

    Was looking at the SQ5 in Canada and actually one of the reasons I liked it was the price compared to competitors. It's interesting that Audi does their configuration differently here, so basically the exact same package as in the video would be just under 80K Canadian, which would be about 63K USD. So a much better price. In comparison, a similarly decked out Macan GTS was looking at close to 100K here.

This is one of those vehicles they lease out more then people buy them. Plus I read 80% of there sales is the Q5. So the SQ5 isn’t a big deal for them. All cars have increased in price in the last 3 years. I had bought a Audi Q5 with the V6 in 2011, it cost me $56k at the time. You can’t even buy a regular Q5 with the V6 anymore.

    Anther notable mention as it pertains to options and price is how the Q5 generally is one of the last in Audis lineup to get updates, but yet still sells at high volumes by comparison despite the high price. Love Audi but that SQ5 is starting to get aggitatingly too conservative and pricey. There is no RS or notable HP increases of which is dissapointing. But I also understand the potential conflict it poses with the Macon. I loved my 2016 SQ5 and frankly it pulled much hard than the turbo lag plagued newer version. You gave attention to it when you drove it, but it think its worth mentioning just how laggy it is. I can't wait for a newer SQ5 with real performance updates. I will just have to wait until its a year old of which at that pont may make it a worthy purchase.

    Here is another comment as I continue to listen. The 21 inch wheels are a big mistake on this vehicle as I own a 2019 with 21 inch. It rides rough, it does not help the handling of the car and actually makes the ride rough. Also think about this the tires, they are Pirelli P-Zero, semi slick so guess what, after 2 summers and 15K the tires are pretty much finished. So big mistake on you the buyer on excepting this, 20" would be better, and calm down on the sport tires unless you want to shell out 3K every 2 years on summer tires.

Paid net $66k. Got another decent trade in on top. I think I overcompensated for dumping my ‘23 NX350 which noisy, cramped and slow. It’s funny to talk about how fast a car is as though I’ll take this car to its off the line or rolling start to its limit much. It only compensates for dic size. If I do it again any car that gets 0-60 in day 5.5 seconds is plenty quick. The NX was 6.6 seconds. I might get a regular Q8 for extra room. I had no reliability issues with my ‘18 Q5 but did dump it at 57k miles. I’m pretty sure a well taken care of Audi should go 75-100k with no problem. Will I consider a new vehicle though - I'll let those who have money to burn go for it first ;) lease returns are where the bargain is at. I recently acquired a 2020 lease return that didn't even have a chance to be posted for sale from an Audi dealer,only had 19,8++miles because they KNEW I was on the lookout for an SQ5. I got it (granted it is not fully loaded meaning less electrical nanny failures, no air suspension,surround camera,radar & lane assists which will save me money on maintenance repairs and windshield replacement costs) with a fairly hefty discount that pretty much paid for CPO status coverage of additional 2 yrs/99k miles extension.

    That color is something I have never seen on an Audi, and we get a LOT of Audis in Slovenia. From the rear 3/4 view looked like a matt grey color. Otherwise waay too expensive if you consider that this is Audi A5 with no rear end and higher seating position.

    Considering this SUV would ride on the same streets as a Mazda or Acura, I'd take an Acura RDX with SH-AWD and either pocket the $26,000 savings or find a slightly used Miata. At least either car would spend more time in my garage then a mechanic's garage.

    Audi is just driving me nuts with this pricing. And the dealers with only Black on Black, White on Black or Grey on Black. $72,000 and I am getting an X5 base model. $58,000 with the steering and real leather/sunroof..i'm buying this. I am sure they lease a ton of SQ5s for 1 year or 2 years for $70k, but good luck on reselling those. I think they are hurting their business model by overpricing this. Finally, the X3M40i is a barnstormer and frankly handles slightly better (though too damn cramped and noisy inside) For $63 you can get an M40i with a sunroof, and steering and handling come standard. Real leather..well for some reason that requires extra from everyone. Decisions decisions..I'm leaning x5.

    I think that the price is excessive. I also think that you didn't press enough about the significant lag off the line. Was that Comfort or Dynamic? I've driven an SQ5 that was that soft off the line and thought that it was borderline dangerous to drive, even in Dynamic. I recently drove a 2020 that was fine in Dynamic.
    The main problem with this car is that interior does not belong in anything over mid 50's and, even then, it's not class-leading IMO. At over 70K, it's unacceptable. Overall, I thought that the car was fine but absolutely nothing special.

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, one does need to take into account that this is based on a car that has real transaction prices in the US$40,000 range - hence limitations on the interior. This is why I prefer the Macan in this segment.

Look up videos on TH-cam of their factories in Mexico and Hungary; they look just like their German factories and use the same equipment.
