As a US Navy veteran, in the air wing, I can tell you fire is the absolute most dangerous situation on a boat or a ship.
That’s why all sailors are trained as firefighters first.
Damage control is a very important skill to have.
Knowing your boat and having the skills to handle emergencies is very important.

Alfred, you guys come to Kauai, and we’ll take your family out on our Zodiac Medline. It’s a blast. There are guys that take those little tenders out on these crazy Kauai waters. They use a rope attached to bow, standing up and literally ride that rib like a bucking bronco all around the island. I wouldn’t do it but it’s fun to watch. Lol

I don't know. To me, it feels so wrong for a boat person to be putzing around in a pontoon boat. Not that there's anything wrong with them as long as you don't take that raft w/trolling motor out on the open ocean!
I don't mean to sound like a boat snob, I sincerely think there's a place for them. And No, not at the bottom of Davey Jones locker! But Alfred is not only a bona-fide and certified boater, he has a boat channel somewhat popular at that! He makes his living with....BOATS! And he loves them, they're his life!
I change my mind! There's no way in hell that AL can have a pontoon! Sell it man, or when you least expect it your drain plug will be confiscated and it will end up where it belongs- down at the bottom of the deep blue!

Oh here’s another story about inflatables. We had our big zodiac parked at the entrance to this beautiful cove we go to, had friends and their daughter in the front and I just happened to look around and two rogue waves were barreling towards us. They merged together and turned into a mountain of water just 10 feet from our starboard side. I jabbed my hubs to get his attention, he instantly hit the throttle but we were only about 40 or 45 feet from the beach. It’s a 30’ boat. We have 3 people on the bow. Thankfully because of my hubs fast action we only got part of the wave. But it dumped so much water on us that we were standing in water above our knees. The wave lifted the boat up a good 10 feet. Had he not whiskey throttled, I’m certain our boat would have been tossed at least once. I was a flight attendant so my FA training kicked in and in less than 30 seconds I was thinking of my exit plan. I yelled for everyone to brace and I grabbed my little Maltese. Thankfully he wears an ocean rated life jacket and loves the water. But I was afraid he’d get caught under the boat. I knew either the boat was gonna be flipped and every one of us tossed or the boat was gonna end up in the beach. Ya know things happen on the ocean. One minute you’ve been jumping off the boat and having fun and the next you have a minute of terrifying thoughts. Of course we all laughed and tried to save whatever hadn’t been in dry bags. But that’s why we have a zodiac here. A different boat would have been a difficult story.

Pontoon is the way to go. Some get those big bass boats. He'll them fish don't know the difference from a bass boat and a pontoon.

Without going into great detail on the history of piracy, yes, it originally had a political meaning. When that ☠️ flag was hoisted, it meant that a country that you were unfriendly with was about to attack your ship, and try to take ALL of your stuff, casting any survivors adrift in a life boat. So get ready!
Nowadays, it typically means that everybody aboard is a hard-partying scallywag who acts exactly the opposite of any pirate while onboard a ship. The drunkenness and horsing around would not be tolerated aboard. Any offending pirate, if they made it back to port, would be banned from ever being a pirate again, effectively ending their career.
So the skull and crossbones is mainly just flown for fun now.
I suppose that the modern-day equivalent pirate "flag" would be a panga boat with 10 Somalis armed with AR-15s running full-throttle straight towards your mega-yacht. 🤷♂️
