    Super clean tuned port man... I've got a 85 Z with a 383 tuned port as well. I like to think I keep mine clean and good looking but I've got to hand it to you.....Thats the cleanest Ive ever layed eyes on. Nice to know there are other people who still put faith in the tuned port system......

    Very informative video. I own a 88 5.7 liter with 7,330 original miles. That has set for 9 years because of having spine surgeries. I am finally able to work on getting my car started. And your info on TPI will be very helpful. That is one very nice looking car you have. Thank you for taking the time to make this video it's going to be a great help.

Usually it's my N.Os that will fail it. I wanted your thought on if I should try and put a cooler sender for my electric fan to come on sooner than the the O E M.? also when its cold, it will have a hard time idling until it starts to warm up. • @chucklucas5326
      @chucklucas5326 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. Would be awesome to have an SLP intake like this guy has on his and a 52mm throttle body. You can contact Hyper Tech and give them a mod list of things you've done to upgrade and give them the number from your factory computer chip and they will make you a high performance chip. Other than that, Holley makes a TPI that comes with a harness and computer that you can Dyno tune, but that's expensive as hell! I have an 87 GTA 5.7 TPI that I put headers and a 3" Flowmaster exhaust on. I also put a MSD distributor and coil and a K&N cold air intake, dual Flex-a-Lite fans and a 160 thermostat. Also put a 52mm throttle body on it. I did the thing with Hyper Tech and got a chip, it's pretty strong now! I'm really about to wake mine up with an LS and T-56 manual. Hopefully I'll have it done by the end of the year!

  • @michaellorenson2997

    Sorry, but TPI was not way ahead of its time. GM went to Bosch for the electronic fuel injection part. It has standard (for the time) Bosch fuel injectors, and everything else is Bosch, or Bosch-compatible. The Tuned Port part is the intake manifold itself. GM power train engineers designed it for low-end torque, which is the reason for the very long intake runners.
    The fact is, ALL all engines have 'tuned ports'. Chevy marketing guys just chose to use that as a catchy name. This system was a huge leap forward for GM, but was nothing special in the broader world of EFI.

      Right. My 87' Porsche 911 had all Bosch Motronic components, but this system is digitally tunable. I have a custom chip in it , and it RIPS!

    • @michaellorenson2997
      @michaellorenson2997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goneflying140
      The GM TPI system is also digital, and you can also get a variety of custom chips for it. Rochester actually produced GM's components under license from Bosch. The Motronic in your 1987 Porsche and the Rochester system in the Corvette are equal in sophistication, because they are essentially the same system.
      Cool Porsche, BTW. But, I have a 1988 Corvette, which snacks on Porsches of its generation, due to its superior design and execution. Porsche-smorsha. You have been served!

That stuff and an account on thirdgen.org and you're all set. Fuel pump, relays, temp sensors and injectors are the most common problems. Vacuum leaks are not allowed.
