    I've been working on my 89 trans am 5.7. Changed almost all the sensors, except the throttle position, which might contribute to my check engine light flashing once the electric fan turns on and the idle decreases. I'm at a loss as to why the idle decreases when the fan turns on.

    Me and my brother have been trying to get his 85 vette to behave and run right. We’ve been chasing sensors and connection issues for over a year. I’m no stranger to older EFI stuff, or principles of engine management in general. Diagnosing these engines is HARD.

    Sir, I just stumbled on to your channel, and I have to say do a great job in explaining everything. Your engine bay is what I'm striving for. I have a 1991 Chevy Camaro Z38 that I pick up from my Dad. This car was sitting for at least 8 years, and I'm starting to rebuild it. The body is in great shape, but everything else needs work. I will be reviewing all of your content.

    Now, what kind of process are you looking at Mechanic wise? If you get a fuel leak due to that fuel pressure regulator going bad in let’s say a C4 Corvette?

    Great video. One question. My 1985 5.7 L98 engine has these EGR small tubes on the runners on the drivers side and that passenger side . Does exhaust gas come up from the exhaust from BOTH banks ?

    Loved those idea's. I have my fans always running with the switch. I want to do the trans cooler and tpi the same. My 88 GTA hate hot weather. I have a long,slow up hill driveway that runs my cars temp up. Thanks for the extra great ideas. The intake doesn't need to be water cooled when its sucking air that's cooler than the water circulating the engine. Cooler air fuel mixture makes for hotter 🔥. Much appreciated. Nice ride.

    Hey Rick I’ve got an 87 IROC Z L98. Engine runs beautifully when cold but then after a couple minutes of driving and warming up it starts to stumble idle roughly, also feels like there’s a lack of power. Has new fuel pump, fuel filter and oxygen sensor. No check engine light. All injectors ohm out at 16 ohms when warmed up. Any ideas what it could be?

  • @Michael_Lorenson

    Sorry, but TPI was not way ahead of its time. GM went to Bosch for the electronic fuel injection part. It has standard (for the time) Bosch fuel injectors, and everything else is Bosch, or Bosch-compatible. The Tuned Port part is the intake manifold itself. GM power train engineers designed it for low-end torque, which is the reason for the very long intake runners. The fact is, ALL all engines have 'tuned ports'. Chevy marketing guys just chose to use that as a catchy name. This system was a huge leap forward for GM, but was nothing special in the broader world of EFI.

    • @goneflying140
      @goneflying140 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right. My 87' Porsche 911 had all Bosch Motronic components, but this system is digitally tunable. I have a custom chip in it , and it RIPS!

    • @Michael_Lorenson
      @Michael_Lorenson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goneflying140 The GM TPI system is also digital, and you can also get a variety of custom chips for it. Rochester actually produced GM's components under license from Bosch. The Motronic in your 1987 Porsche and the Rochester system in the Corvette are equal in sophistication, because they are essentially the same system. Cool Porsche, BTW. But, I have a 1988 Corvette, which snacks on Porsches of its generation, due to its superior design and execution. Porsche-smorsha. You have been served! :)

    Hi, and thanks for the video. Original owner of an 86 IROC and I'm ready to go to a 383 myself. Would be very interested to learn some of the details of yours. Specifically, compression ratio, camshaft, injector size, and whether you had prom custom burnt for it and who did it for you if so thanks

    Hi Rick, I restored my 1987 GTA and want more horsepower than the stock 5.7 liter. I have a 383 stroker with a Corvette +2 cam that should work well with my TPI. Question is, who did you trust to do your chip programming for your 383? Thanks, Greg

  • @MRJ520

    Why are the injectors only 24lb? Everything I read & researched, 30lb injectors make the most power. How’s yours run in the 1/4 or do you have any dyno numbers? Not trying to sound negative, your car is the bomb! I’m just curious cause I’m building the same thing.
