Hard to Watch: Terrified Severely Under-Socialized Puppy Mill Rescue Dog Afraid of Human Touch

- This may be difficult to watch. What you’re seeing is an extremely under socialized dog. When animals, dogs in particular, are not touched and handled on a regular basis, this can be the outcome. Or, if they haven’t been touched in the way they should be, they have zero reason to trust in humans or believe that we are here for their well-being. Jackson is an example of this kind of fear. But Jackson is also a shining example of how forgiving dogs can be. Watch through the difficult part to see how this precious boy is already willing to accept gentle touch and love from our Rehab Team members, even as fearful as he is. Dogs only want to know that they are loved and safe. Once that message is communicated, the walls begin to come down. Stay tuned for more of Jackson’s Journey. He is in obvious need of grooming and will receive that once it’s safe for all involved. This boy will come out of his shell and begin to know the life he deserves. We can’t wait to watch!

I think the abuse is the total isolation with a lack of any affection or caring.

My little rescue dog was just like that. And at just 3 months old he was a 'runt' of the litter of a breeder who couldn't be sold that was dumped on a rescue center here in England. He was sitting in the corner shaking when I saw him and had to have him. Such a tiny scared baby. He was terrified and didn't eat for two days. He's half Yorky half King Charles and now 11 years old. I called him Louis after one of the many French King Louis' but the good one, sixteenth I think. Anyhoo, he and I are inseparable and we love each other to bits but even so he sometimes jumps if I touch him when he doesn't expect it and scared of strangers. He's never been subject to anything bad since I've had him but he's terrified of children and extremely wary and nervous about strangers. But then he will stand in front of me and bark his head off and growl at strangers. My little protector bless him. God knows what happened to him in his first three months of life but he along with others never forget do they? It's so sad that, just like abused children, there are so many dogs and cats that are treated so badly. You do a wonderful job rescuing puppy mill babies. I wish they would be banned. It's so sick. There was a beautiful dog, a Saluki I think that had been just a puppy mill mummy at the rescue center too. The poor baby had clearly been bred stupid and looked so sad. I so hope she found a loving home as sadly, I couldn't take both. Thank you so much for all you do. ❤️🙏

Perhaps that one will get his own video next. Dogs can learn by watching the other react. I'm sure the white one will get his chance.
A woman would've included both. It would've helped both to have seen the other being treated with care and tenderness. Lessened the fear in a more subtle way.

And I was not commenting on the integrity of the rescue in and of itself I was commenting on the very pathetic attempt that that man was making at Getting the dog to like him it was the wrong one wrong thing to do moving way too fast and he should’ve use the other dog as an example of what it was like to be around people slowly over days not getting on his hands and knees and chasing the dog around and then pushing it into the corner and smashing the bed up against the dog getting into the corner

This baby makes me sad wish I had this little lovely my female Polar Bear died 2 yrs ago at age 11 she was wonderful I have her brother still Grizzy Bear and my male Doxie Zero need another female

I just adopted a bishon that came from a puppy mill. I've spent these first few days getting her accustomed to touch. She is soooo fearful of everything. She has allowed me to pick her up and put her in my lap and she falls asleep there but last night and this morning she didn't want me to pick her up. She fought me and I managed to get her anyway. I probably shouldn't have forced her. She is terrified of the leash and of going outside. I haven't forced her with the leash and I probably will regret this but I just let her go potty in the house. Any kind of advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

The masks don’t bother the dogs. They’re used to them. Ironically, it’s the humans that have issues with the masks.

Yes, Jackson is living and thriving happily in his adopted home. He has come so far!
My first thought was maybe 🤔 afraid of Males.? Our rescue 🐶 was so afraid of guys but never expressed any problems with husband or son or couple others. But when friends came over, she would freak out so badly.

I always blamed owners for their dogs bad behavior, the lack of training. All dogs are innocent including the ones in shelters waiting for someone to give them a good home. Dogs didn’t ask to be bred in the first place. Humans that have bred them, including the ones that buy those dogs have to care of them. They don’t speak but they have feelings just like human.

Sorry guys, I love the work you do, but do this as you would a horse! Approach and retreat. Get as close as you can, and at the first sign of it moving, rejecting or objecting, back right off. Sit, wait, come again. Keep your hands right out of it. She? I dunno, maybe she, needs to know absolutely that approach is safe. So, back off before she moves. He did ok, but I would do it differently, without the early scuffling. Greetings from Australia. I love this channel.

I make videos begging people to adopt because there are thousands of sweet kitty cats + pups in shelters, just wanting ANYONE to save them + love them.
My 3 bffs were are rescued + I would do it again + again.

At the beginning is too rough. Should be more respectful to this scary baby. I used to have exactly same puppy mill rescue. It took some time. Only LOVE and patience. I rehabilitate my baby perfectly fine. Mine was afraid of hands, didn't know what grass is, trying to bite people on legs, and had food aggression. Nothing was left after a couple or so months. I fixed it!
Perhaps you should check the process of this dog and see that he’s getting exactly what he needs.

this guy needs more training as a volunteer to not corner her like that, you are a big guy and the little dog is clearly terrified of you, that fact that you cannot see it only confirms your lack of understanding and training
