I remember got to the Carnival in La Vega! I did a documentary film in the DR, el campo de La Luisa Prieta de Monte Plata se llama Juana y Cande: Un Retrato de Una Familia Dominicana
Yeah there can be friendly people but it is known for being the country with the most dangerous streets to drive in. And most people will try to steal from you. Also men will always want to cat talk women and even violate them due to their poor education. I'm not trying to be mean, its the truth, I live there but not in the poor hoods.
I remember loving the carnival as a kid. 🙌🏽 -Dominicano all the way Klk .. 🇩🇴. Oh yeah btw in Santiago they used to celebrate it every Sunday all month of February and the last Sunday of February would always be the big party/celebration.
You should try our mangu with onions and salami, its delicious! We also eat a lot of beans and rice. Though I'm in a higher class than what most people live in, I love to eat their traditional food.
In Hatillo, Puerto Rico there is a similar tradition it has to do something with a saint there are different variations in different towns and now I look at it as country variations
Glad I’m not the only one who saw the similarity between these and the vejigante masks! As a Puerto Rican who grew up stateside and pretty far removed from any larger Latino communities, it’s always neat to learn something new about Latino culture in general.
"Omarete Vilato"

If my country ever becomes independent (hopefully it will) I hope to all that is holly that a festival or something is puy on cause like America has 4th July and I'm now finding out about this cool ass parade
We’re so lucky. We share a history with Haiti 🇭🇹 and so I celebrate Jan 1st!! And just Haitian independence. Literally all of January. Feb 9th Slavery was abolished in Santo Domingo 🇭🇹🇩🇴. So our independence month on February afterwards is great. If y’all going to fight me about Haiti. I will beat your asses up. We don’t shame her over here.

I live in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. People on the streets will always dress up and put on colorful masks, it's a really great show to see.
I wish theydeve shown more of the diversity of our masks. Theres some really complex ones, and some cool history behind it as well
