Came across you channel, tip never run the motor without the water attached to the unit….. you might wanna order replacement parts for the lower end propeller, etc., etc. change all the oils and before you tried to crank it you should’ve pulled the spark plugs and put oil down all the cylinders excellent way to bend that to the cylinder wall, looking forward to the videos.
I worked for Mercruiser in Stillwater, love seeing an engine and drive that came out of the plant! I always wonder when I see a boat in the year range I worked there if I had my hands on that motor at one point. In the cafeteria we had the engine covers from over the years on the walls being used at light shades, it was pretty cool.
Pull plugs liberally spray with KROIL in orange can. Let it sit untouched for a couple days. Try to turn over gently with a breaker bar. If doesn’t spin repeat. I’ve never had to repeat in all the motors I’ve broken loose. KROIL oil is the best.
I bought a boat one time had the same problem. Do you know what it turned out to be the outdrive was locked up which ties in with a couple ties in with the motor and will not allow the motor to turn over
Pull them plugs first on the next one you do, lube the cylinders. bumping the key like that, plugs in and being stuck. good way to Break the block where starter goes. Good video though
Ben, Im assuming you know that you roasted your pump impellrd with all that running of the engine with no water supply. Regardless, looks like youve got a real diamond in the rough there. A real crime that it was left out in the weather.
Sorry to be making this comment but it’s obvious you don’t fully know or understand what your doing. Anyone can be a so called “mechanic” but if you don’t possess the understanding then STOP. For one if you can’t turn the engine over with the center bolt after one or two average tries then STOP before you break the bolt off. Don’t try and force it. Secondly, you say you put oil in the cylinders which is good. Once you got it broke loose then STOP right there. Just because there wasn’t rust on the plugs doesn’t mean there wasn’t rust already forming on the cylinder walls. What you should have done is STOP right there, take it home and pull the engine out and take it apart to the point where you can look at the cylinder walls, check the crank and rod bearings. Think about this for a moment. Something other than the starter locked that engine up. Once you got it freed up you kept turning it over, that’s a NO NO. STOP. Everything was extremely dry. The manor in which you kept going and started that engine you caused damage. Even if it was little you still caused damage. Possibly scaring the cylinder walls, where the piston rings will prematurely fail. All your bearings the same way. I know your excited and eager but you can’t let that guide you. Be smart. Think about what your doing and going to do BEFORE you do it.
Man why don't this channel have alot more subs then it does. This guy is good at what he does. Can't wait for future posts. Much love from Maryland❤❤❤
Appreciate it! Share it if you enjoy ;)

Pull the sparkles ✨ first young man.
I am excited for part 2. I love those old Cobalts.
Stay tuned! more to come; they're good boats that's for sure
Very cool!
Nice project boat! It's always fun to see "will it crank?" kind of videos
Great video, i bought a 1988 cobalt condurre 200 last year ...awsome boat. Finished renovation last month. Greetings from Belgium
Thanks! any of the condurre line are great boats
Great Job. Awesome video
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed

Excellent mechanic when he knows what the smell of 10w30 is

If the block has JB in it, really doesn’t matter if the engine spins. Good content, enjoying it 👍🏼
I recommend buying the key way to bolt up to the crank pulley. Very easy to break those bolts off and be screwed.
Good recommendation, thanks!
@@bensboats yessir I’m not an old head either I’m 21 and leaning from experience.😂 let me just say I wasn’t the lucky one.
Has potential
I bought a boat one time had the same problem. Do you know what it turned out to be the outdrive was locked up which ties in with a couple ties in with the motor and will not allow the motor to turn over
That can happen! Luckily this drive seems ok

Thanks for the tip!

Oh yeah that impeller was cooked long ago. part two in the works now where we swap it out for a new one!
Dude! Get a break bar on that crank bolt! You’re only using a 3/8 rachet!
Don't want to break that bolt! Makes for a real bad day....
@@bensboats I get that, but you can also break the starter bolts out of the bolt using the starter to crank a locked up engine
How to bend a rod 101...
Kiss that water pump goodbye
